Anime Openings
-
The Jojo one is really well crafted. I like how it emphasises the fact that it's the wacky "oh Japan" manga from way back before anyone watching the show right now had any right to know what was the wacky "oh Japan" manga in the 80s. You get all the information about the show that you need. Excellence.
I like the Durarara "here's some story in random lines throughout the opening" thing, and how it's entertaining enough to not make you bored watching it every time to hear the background lines and scenes. Good stuff.
Steins;Gate's op holds a place in my heart, even though I recognise that it's probably only there because the anime is amazing and the actual song was so kickass I had to learn how to play it on guitar. Visually, though, to someone who hasn't watched it it's pretty bland and even though the theme of it all becomes apparent after you're most of the way through the series by that point you're either skipping it or just jamming out to the tune.

@descendfromgrace Oh man, that 1st Attack on Titan opening is great. It's one of the few things my wife pulls out of anime to quote at me from time to time, just for giggles, because she likes the German language.
-
Best opening that gets me hyped every time is Haikyuu!! S2 OP2. This is some quality stuff here and the song is so addicting:
I usually skip OPs but I never skipped this one.
Also, every Gintama OP and ED because the songs are amazing! Notable mention:

@descendfromgrace
Excel Saga has a fun opening, but to this day that ending is my favourite. Also great since I never forget the lyrics.
-
The obvious one is Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight, that's just simply one of the all time greats.
Then I'd say that the opening for Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto would also be really high up there, but sadly I can't link to it since they have muted or taken down every opening or song uploaded to YT of it.
So instead I'm going with Wolf's Rain.Other noteworthy ones include
Macross 7
Cowboy Bebop
Gundam Wing
One Punch Man
The Skull Man (I like this one because it uses live actors)
Death Parade
-
My favorite anime just so happens to have one of ym favorite anime openings
Youtube Video
-
It's just too good. And here's another opening so 80s it hurts.
-
Really love anime OP so I name a few that currently comes to mind.
Digimon Adventure - Butter-Fly Rest in Peace Kouji Wada. He really made awesome OP that got me hyped
Street Fighter II V - Kaze Fuiteru I just love the song
Inu Yasha - Grip! Was really into Inu Yasha back then and this theme stuck with me
Detective Conan - Magic Only stills unfortunately but her voice is so beautiful and fitting for the song
Detective Conan - Shoudou the series have some amazing artist and one is the band that made the Dragon's Dogma OP
Blue Exorcist - Pride
Full Metal Panic!: The 2nd Raid - Minami Kaze
The Secret of Blue Water - the 1st and my favorite GAINAX series.
Baccano - Guns n' Roses Very upbeat music and love theway they link pictures to other scenes like their other series DRRR!
One Piece - Kokoro no Chizu My favorite ark of the series
-
Here's a few of my favourites, I hope that even if you arent familiar with the animes, you'll check them out
Blue Gender Rare occasion where I prefer the dub OP
-
These are so goood
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood OP1
Attack on Titan
Evangelion
Soul Eater OP2
Tokyo Ghoul's first opening is beautiful even though the anime's not that great compared to the manga, same with Deadman Wonderland
91 Days (haven't seen the anime yet tho)
Psycho Pass2
-
@Blueturtle 91 days is a great anime to match that great opening. And Papermoon is amazing.
-
You guys are making me sad. Their openings were so good, I wish Psycho-Pass' season 2 and Soul Eater's ending were more... conclusive.
Anyway, Soul Eater's first opening is also great. It has some amazing animated sequences. I like how it doesn't shy away from showing Maka as this just awful rage monster, as opposed to making her all kawaii for kawaii's sake.
-
I only really came here to post Durarara!! and Baccano!'s openings but I've been beaten to the punch on them. Excellent OPs, those.
Some other great ones though are TTGL's and Yu Yu Hakusho's (English version just due to nostalgia honestly.) A much more recent example that comes to mind is Osomatsu-san.
And just because they don't really get enough recognition I'll also mention a few anime ending themes that are really good. Polar Bear Cafe has a lot of amazing ones, though I can't find the actual videos for them on youtube. While you can look up the songs the video just adds so much more with how they're all done. If you've seen Osomatsu-san (animated by the same company I believe) you'll know what I mean. Another great one is Daily Lives of Highschool Boys because it's just so stupidly funny.
-
@DeweyDTruman I totally forgot about TTGL, it has a great opening and such a beautiful story. Definitely one of my favorite.
-
SPOILERS HERE!!!!
This is one that I remember the most just because... well, it hits so many emotions. Naruto is definitely a series that has had many ups and downs, but at least this exists.
-
Here are some of my recent favorites
Disclosure: These are not youtube links. They just open the video in your browser.
Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
Kiznaiver
Space Patrol Luluco
Tanaka-kun is always listless
Sakamoto desu-ga
-
@PrinceofTheUniverse Sakamoto is amazing! Same with Tanaka.
-
I really hate anime openings for the first 5 episodes of a new series, because they are always riddled with spoilers. I don't want to know every character that's gonna appear in the first 10 episodes. Openings that I actually liked were
Baccano, because it didn't really spoil anything and it felt more like the actual introduction to the characters
the first opening of attack on Titan was great because it captured the vibes of the anime perfectly.
soul eaters first opening is great because the animation just wows you everytime you watch it
the best opening is still no opening. The only inherently good thing about them is that they're always 1:30 long and therefor easy to skip.
-
I hate myself a little bit for this one, but The Idolmaster's opening is really quite good.
Also the first that always come to mind for me are always
The latin american version of Digimon
and
This last one basically defined generations of Latin american kids.
I could probably come up with others I prefer, but these ones are the first that I always think about.
