I haven't played it myself yet but I've heard great things about I Am Setsuna. And then there's some of the ported PS2 games like the Dark Cloud series that might hold you over until FFXV releases.

I played this on vita, but it's also on ps4. Grand Kingdom is definitely a good one.

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered if you havent played it already
I also enjoyed Nights of Azure a lot and I'm currently playing Super Robot Wars The Moon Dwellers which is great if you can look beyond the kind of shaky translation

If you have a PS3 or Vita you have to play The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel (it's only 40 bucks on both sytems).
Megadimension Neptunia VII (Victory II)
Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force
Tales of Zestiria
Nights of Azure

There aren't a ton for the PS4 so far, but the ones I'd recommend are:
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
I am Setsuna
The Witch and the Hundred Knight: Revival Edition
Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance
Final Fantasy VII
These are the ones I feel are the best quality wise.

Atelier Sopihie, Bloodborne and Sword Art Online: Lost Song are the only ones left that I have to recommend.
ive finished i am setsuna and bloodborne
and i have valkyria chonicles remastered ive finished it on ps3
so im leaning on one of grand kingdom the witch and the hundred knight and sword art online
is sword art online like the .hack games on ps2?
also im looking for trails of cold steel ps3 version as i dont think it works on pstv and everywhere i look its over 100 bucks
never mind i just had to get the special edition

@FF7Cloud It is slightly similar to Type 0 in the military academy theme, but it's not open world and imo Class VII is much more sympathic.
@Musou-Tensei i agree much better character now that ive got another couple hours in i think im really gonna like it as i know have persona like relationships to manage
