Wifi boosters?
-
Hello allies,
So the wifi in my room currently keeps cutting out and my phone jumps over on 4G now and then, after speaking with some friends they suggested a wifi booster, the problem is that I have very limited knowledge of how those work or what to look for, so I decided to ask for advice here.
My landlord said that he gladly will reburse me for the cost of one so thats cool. The question is how does it work? where do I get one and how to plug it in?
I live in the UK and we are on sky broadband if thats for any help.
Kind Regards
Lotias

I don't have one nor have I ever shopped for one.
But I believe it's just a signal repeater. In theory you would need to plug it in to a wall receptacle within decent signal range of your WIFI source and ideally closer to your point of use. I imagine you may have to configure it to have access to your WIFI network.
Hopefully someone that uses one can chime in and help.

@suplextrain Thank you! that is some interesting reading and explains it quite well

just curious.. why would your landlord reimburse you? (o.O)

@runner609 because he is a nice guy :D I asked him first if he could install one, but he said that he pay me for the costs if I sort it out :)

@Lotias wow... thats nice :thumbsup:

Ended up buying a booster from Amazon which many people recommended. It should arrive tomorrow. so lets hope and see if it works! only costed me 16 quid

@Lotias any chance you could let me know how you got on with this? I've been having the same issue with my internet since they "upgraded" my router and now I can't get a connection. Found your post which said you got one and nothing after so hopefully that fixed your issue? I'm looking at this repeater and I only need to cover like two rooms but it feels like miles when I have to walk into the living room just to use my WiFi. >_<

@ActualLife Yeah! The booster really helped me! it was fairly easy to install! I went for this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NIUHAG6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (amazon UK).
Now and then I need to restart it though as the router goes funny (takes like 30 sec so not really hard). But after that I have been able to play on my PS4 online and use my phone without any issue, just make sure you have a free power socket handy! so I say go for it!
