@Sheria I think it just comes down to atmosphere, lightly topped with a sprig or two of nostalgia. I won't lie, DOOM II has better weapons, more varied enemy designs as well... but I can't play it longer than an hour without wanting to do something else. Two was a great refinement of the first but the original helped bring an entire genre into the hive mind, DOOM just feels more important to me. The pacing and level design of the first still feel excellent, over a decade later. I definitely wouldn't knock anyone for preferring DOOM II though.

I have no thoughts on the Walking Dead beyond knowing why the ending is considered great. I respect it and I don't need to play the game to grasp its importance.
But onto DOOM:
This is a fantastic game. My fourth entry on this list, it is also my lowest (so far. Maybe?). Depending on who in my family is asked, there are claims that this was my first ever video game (I disagree with them, but whatever :-D ). I love the chapter system and E1M1 is so iconic for me. Even though its so simple, I have played that level so many times in my life, I know that level front to back and both secrets. To the above points, I prefer DOOM II, so I expect it to be coming later, but I prefer that because of weapons, level design, and (while not much), there is a coherent story. OG DOOM, though, legitimately is one of the few games that have contributed to my identity as a gamer. Long live Doom Guy.

man i really hopes final fantasy tactics makes it that games needs more love

@FF7Cloud No I have not, simply because strategy games as a whole are not my kind of thing. However, Tactics would probably be the one I try, if ever, simply for being a FF game and having such great praise. Although, I've been BURNED by highly praised games several times.

@Sheria, 2 is also great. Had a grand time with 3, but I never got to experience 4 or 5.

But seriously, Tactics has its merits. But like IX, it's a FF that just doesn't speak to me.

I was pretty close to putting Suikoden on my list but I left it mostly because I want to play Suikoden 2 first since everyone says it's better.
