The EZA Top 100 Videogames!

  • 47. Grand Theft Auto V (2013)
My first game on the list. I'm even a little surprised I put this on my top 30 as historically I haven't loved the GTA series despite owning all of them. However, it did make it on my list because it's just so darn good. It's the first GTA game that I fully beat. Usually the grind of the GTA missions wears me down but I thought this story was compelling enough and the side missions were fun enough that the 40 hours I played always felt fresh. There is a good reason this is one of the best selling games of all time, if you haven't played it then give it a shot!

  • Even more surprises!! GTA V not in the top 25?! Just when I think I have a consensus figured out about this franchise, it keeps getting shattered. Because I'm no fan of GTA, I will leave my thoughts there, but wow.

Portal 2!!! Absolutely adore this game and it is superior to the original in every way! Better story, more clever puzzles, different "environments", and the coup de grace, co-op mode. A well made game, and another in Valve's batch that needs to have a third.

    @jsackel, @DeweyDecibel, @Alex840, @NCartwright15, @benoit489, @Browarr, @TokyoSlim, I salute you all in enjoying a great game with such dark humor.

Now this concludes the Aperture Science community list. Thank you for your contributions. For science. Please leave your 30 item profile sheet on the way out and don't forget to pick up your :cake:

Please ignore the spikes and flames as they are merely tools used for another test.

    Thank you for your compliance.

  • The points have been ridiculously close to each other with many games now, like only a one point difference one after another.

  • @Sentinel-Beach And seeing MGS V beat out DOOM let me know the tie breaker: Its not number of votes, but highest overall. Either works for me, but good to know now.

  • Well, I have five games on the list now. I was the highest GTAV? Man, that's kinda crazy. Like Jones, I appreciate a good open world game, and GTAV is probably my third favorite ever. The urban setting really sets it apart from the other two on my list, and may be the best fictional city in a game. Los Santos and Blaine County are excellent environments, are distinctly different, and are close enough together so that it's not that big of a pain to drive there. The three lead protagonists all offer a distinct viewpoints and issues from different social classes, and the campaign was fully fleshed out and fun at launch, even though since release they have since been focusing on improving and expanding online multiplayer. The level of detail and interactivity in the game is great, and on PC, there's a very strong mod community, that continues to improve and refresh gameplay.

To me, the only real negative about this game is the long install. :)

  • Wow I'm surprised Portal 2 didn't rank higher

  • Apparently people are still trying to figure out if Portal 2 is a puzzle game or not.

  • @TokyoSlim Really? I continue to fail to see how the everlasting debate about what constitutes a puzzle game continues to persist. Portal 2 is a puzzle game. What's the argument for it not being so?

  • Sadly not surprised to see GTAV in here, but at least it ain't higher. I truly hate this game in case it is not clear, but oh well other people enjoy it.

    It's a Kyle Bosman joke. :p

  • @TokyoSlim All the same. (Especially when Mr. Bosman begins to troll :-D )

  • has there been a handheld game yet

  • @FF7Cloud I played Hotline Miami on my Vita first, does that count?

    45. Resident Evil 2 (1998) - 107 Points - 6 Votes - Highest Vote: #5 TechnoRage1127

    Developer: Capcom
    Publisher: Capcom
    Genre: Survival Horror
Platform(s): PlayStation, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, GameCube

Even though Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine were able to destroy the Umbrella corporation's undead monsters in the original Resident Evil, Umbrella's experiments with the T-virus continued unhindered. Claire Redfield, the younger sister of Chris, and Leon Kennedy, a rookie cop on his first day of the job, arrive in the sleepy midwestern town of Raccoon City only to find the city in flaming ruins due to the inhabitants having been transformed into mindless flesh-eating freaks. Although Claire and Leon team up, they are soon separated and trapped inside the city by a car crash. Seeking refuge within the Raccoon City police station, each character must find a way to escape from the nightmare while solving the mystery of what happened to Raccoon City.

Besides the zombie population (which is much more diverse than the original, including teenage girl zombies, maniac cop zombies, and even melting naked zombies), Claire and Leon will also have to deal with a variety of freakish mutants including giant poisonous spiders, walking venus-fly-traps, and speedy wall-crawling Lickers. Each character will also be pursued by one seemingly unstoppable foe: a horrific and constantly evolving man-monster known as the "G-Type" (Leon's Scenario) , or a taciturn but inhumanly powerful Umbrella agent who is nonetheless saddled with the rather quaint name of Mr. X (Claire's Scenario).

    44. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003) - 107 Points - 5 Votes - Highest Vote: #2 DanteThePyro

    Developer: BioWare
    Publisher: LucasArts
    Genre: RPG
Platform(s): Microsoft Windows, XBOX, OS X, iOS, Android

Four thousand years before the events depicted in the Star Wars movies, the political and ideological situation is not much different from what we have seen in the prequel trilogy: the Republic and the Jedi Order are fighting against two powerful Sith lords, Darth Revan and his apprentice, Darth Malak. It is said that the former was successfully defeated by the Jedi, and that Darth Malak betrayed his mentor and is planning to take on the Republic by himself. His aggression is so successful that some Jedi have decided to join his ranks. A seemingly ordinary soldier of the Republic is traveling aboard a space ship that is attacked by Darth Malak's minions. Narrowly escaping, the soldier meets a female Jedi named Bastila, one of those who have fought Darth Revan in the decisive battle. With her help, the soldier must learn to become a Jedi, stop Darth Malak, and discover the truth about his or her own past.

Knights of the Old Republic is a role-playing game that uses the Star Wars D20 rule system, which is similar to the 3rd Edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Character development and combat are handled similarly to BioWare's previous RPGs such as Baldur's Gate series. Combat engine follows similar "real-time with pause" rules. There are only three active combatants on the player's side (as opposed to six in Baldur's Gate). Several characters join the party and can be switched at the player's will.

  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003)

Didn't quite make my list (would be top 40) but this is still one of the best Star Wars games and in my opinion the best BioWare game. I haven't played it for awhile but my wife did last year and my only complaint is that it's starting to look dated.

  • I played it this past week for the first time and i agree, great game! I did not have much problems with the Visuals or the Gameplay, it holds up quite well imo (for a 13 year old game!)

  • KOTOR is a great game. I haven't played it in a long time, been thinking of picking it up again.

  • As I said previously, I'm not a fan of Resident Evil, though I'm not surprised that 2 is ranked higher than 1. Now I'm waiting to see where 4 is going to place, because I feel that will be the last to be revealed. As far as KOTOR goes, while I'm a HUGE Mass Effect fan and a life-long Star Wars nerd, I never played this game because I never owned an OG Xbox. I hope this gets remastered, because I would like to give it a shot someday. Happy to see it make the list.

  • @Brannox It's on PC as well.

  • Yeah, I played it on PC.
