The EZA Top 100 Videogames!

@Nillend Whoa, Prince of Persia '08?
-
@naltmank The visuals alone are timeless. The dialogue is great, even if combat was kinda meh. And I even liked the story.
-
@Nillend Oh I can dig it. I actually really liked that game when I played it. Gorgeous visuals, amazing character animations, and some solid writing. I didn't hate the combat as much as some others, but it definitely got repetitive after a while. My friend and I would play it every Friday after school during our Freshman year of high school, but we never finished it because the days got shorter and he observed shabbat. We never got around to finishing it once the days got longer again, but I think we made it pretty far.
-
I got 15/30 of my games on the list. The ones missing are bolded:
- The Last of Us
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
- Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
- Red Dead Redemption
- Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
- Tekken 3
- Resident Evil 4
- Doom
- Tales from the Borderlands: Season 1
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Final Fantasy VII
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
- The Walking Dead: Season 1
- Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
- Batman: Arkham City
- Assassin’s Creed II
- Crash Team Racing
- God of War
- Spider-Man
- Hitman: Blood Money
- Infamous
- Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
- BioShock Infinite
- Vigilante 8
- Turrican II: The Final Fight
- Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
I'm really happy to see my number one right there with the silver medal, The Last of Us is truly something else completely.
What I don't understand is the absence of Resident Evil 4 entirely in the Top 100. The status it holds in the gaming world is extremely high and well-regarded, and, you know, it's just a super great game in general. Oh man. And to think that even something like CoD 4 made the list makes this even more baffling.
And on a more personal note: I guess I can keep the treasure that is PoP: The Sands of Time all to myself to enjoy. Love it so much. The way the story and the game mechanics play so well together, you enjoy them both in an equal manner.
Thank you to our dear host for the list and to all the people commenting here. It was a thrilling ride.

Came back to find the "Top 3". Very fucking funny @Exist-2-Inspire, you gave me a fucking heart attack with Dead Space 3! Battleborn was the give away though!
As for Final Fantasy VII, I have an odd, but good, admission. I didn't play it until a couple of years ago. I don't have the same sense of nostalgia as everyone else, but I will defend that game as a damn masterpiece. It's bloody fantastic. In a strange way I feel it's like the Akira of video games, with so much in it. A trail blazer that people will always look at with reverence.
Also, that opening cinematic is incredible. I'm teaching a seminar on games writing and establishing gaming worlds this week, and that opener is one of the ones I'm showing. It's all visual storytelling right from the start. There is no dialogue, but all of the themes of that game are there in front of you. You hear the sounds of the stars, making odd screams in some cases, then you see a woman (Aeris) who you think is just there, but she will be very important. Then you pull back from a small street corner, and gradually see the main plate of Midgar - seeing the technology, the architecture and the nature of the city. The aspect of industrialisation is there from the very beginning and all the themes are in place. Then we come back in and focus on the train. There are no formal introductions, you're placed in the middle of the action and start the game planning to blow up a fucking energy reactor. It's genius.

@Exist-2-Inspire Thank you for doing this list! it must have been so much work, but worth it!
I missed the end of the list and was going to do them seperate, then I was thinking of doing a post of each and every game. But I just dont have the time to write about 100 games at once.
I am just so happy to see a list that I can agree with and it feels like it got filled with heart rather than "list that must have these games". so BIG thank you to everyone that voted and were active in this thread! thanks to @Brannox and @Axel for giving me their view on things and this thread really deserves a big spotlight in this community.

Righto, here's my list! The funny thing is I made a list of 100 at first before reading the rules. So there are some I thought were in it that actually aren't. Whoops! Xenoblade is the culmination of so much incestuous bad taste that it threatens to suffocate the entire genre.
-
@Haru17 loved the games story and characters loved the mission structure loved the affinity system. the only weak part was the battle system dosnt matter where you are you you could be halfway across the map and the enemy could still hit you (still the best jrpg of last generation)

-
Been away for a bit and I'm currently very tired so won't be commenting too much on the last 15 or so entries I missed right now.
Just wanted to thanks @Exist-2-Inspire for all the hard work and mention that the topic has been pinned. I think it's a really nice starting point for anyone who joins the forums to see what the community is into!

@tokeeffe9 Thanks for pinning it! I was really hoping it would. This thread DESERVES to be preserved!
