Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.

It's funny because he clearly didn't look at the numbers and compare them. Also going into something with statistics to prove something instead of looking at it from an unbiased position is also a mistake many people make.

Except that I did look at the numbers. On every patron funded show easy allies produces, going back 10+ weeks. And you actually are the person who brought up statistics when you erroneously stated that it gets "amongst the least views out of their more recent shows", not me. I'm just correcting your inaccurate data.

Also, I'm not responding to your OPINIONS on the show or Ian, because I don't actually care what you think. You're welcome to not like whomever you want. I'm just making sure everyone else knows that the opinions you state like they are facts are not actually backed up by data.

You'll also note that during this entire exchange, you've been exceedingly rude to me. For someone who "doesn't care if I disagree" (and I do) you react like someone taking it very personally.

Mod Note - @suplextrain Stop being aggressive towards other posters. If you don't agree with the information or opinion they've given, either move on or say why you disagree with it. Calling someone " narrow-minded white knighting" is not going to help you so stop saying things like that about posters.

  • @sabotagethetruth said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

You admit to not having watched the show in over a year. I would say that speaks volumes.

Of what? It says that I don't find it to be worthwhile. Do you feel that the show has radically changed since? If so, how? Would the complaints I had a year ago no longer be valid to today? Why?

    @tokyoslim
Not sure why you decided to type something directed at me that I specifically said I would brush off as irrelevant and uninteresting. You just waste your time and effort because I'm not gonna read it.
Before you blurt out by calling me close-minded or something, it's basically a situation where I'm talking about X and you start talking about Y, where Y is something I have 0 interest in. I just don't care. I'm interested in talking about the actual quality and structure of the show, not how much you love Ian and his content. Even Ian himself is aware that he isn't exactly the most popular ally and he's made peace with it, you should do the same. Either way, not gonna read or reply to you again if you harp on about this thing.

    @tokeeffe9
I'm not aggressive at all. The issue is that some people get far too defensive and start talking about irrelevant things I have no interest in discussing, especially since it typically has nothing to do with what I was talking about. Also I quite clearly have already stated my opinion on the matter yet say tokyoslim decided to focus on what I considered to be frankly irrelevant over discussing the actual show itself.

And no there is nothing aggressive about saying that somone is narrow-minded or a white knight. It's not namecalling just to be an ass, like calling someone a subhuman idiot or something. I state my reasons for why I am not interested in talking with someone. Narrow-minded people are generally a waste of time to discuss with online and I honestly can't stand white knighting since it's such a heavy bias that tends to blind people. Both of these things hurt sensible discussion, hence why I lose interest in wanting to talk to these people. Because what's the point of discussing something if you're not going to challenge your ideas?

I will however admit that I'm blunt and that rubs some people the wrong way. But being blunt is not aggressive. It's difficult to read things like tone and such in text form, but you shouldn't just naturally assume that someone is an ass, mad or aggressive. But whatever, if you think I'm aggressive then anything I say is moot.

  • I enjoy this immensely. This can never be a waste of my time!

I have not called you anything. You're actually the only one throwing around insults and condescension in here. :)
I have not "defended" Ian or his show. I have not "started" talking about anything. The only thing in this thread I have done is directly address your own words, which were factually incorrect. A courtesy which apparently will not be extended to me in return. Instead you're content to make up things I might say if I were behaving like yourself and then claim to not care about me saying those things! A paradox! lol

@suplextrain It's honestly very strange reading some of your posts as you talk about the issue with some people but it genuinely looks like you're describing yourself.

And you're right, I do completely disagree with your take on aggression and bluntness. Calling a poster narrow-minded and/or a white knight is insulting and also a strange thing to call someone who has actually done some research on the topic.

Either way I think you've made your points on what you want, and I emphasis you as the majority of people I know like Easy Update.

  • Honestly you've a privileged life when you can moan about all this sjw/atl right nonsense. Settle down have a family you'll know what really matters in life.

In what way? Close-mindedness and such? I strive to challenge my ideas but I prefer to stick to the point and hand and not get side tracked on red-herring topics. If someone is adamant about talking about something irrelevant while avoiding questions directed at them and staying on topic then why bother waste time trying to discuss something with someone that doesn't actually want to discuss the topic? Nothing strange about it.

Matter of perception I guess. People can be offended by anything nowadays. It's strange however to me when people focus more on individual words over what is being said, especially if said person is being passive-aggressive or is actually saying some nasty/controversial stuff. Oh well.

@tokeeffe9 said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

and also a strange thing to call someone who has actually done some research on the topic.

Yes, wow. He did (supposedly) the exact same thing I did and looked at view numbers. He didn't post them, didn't compare them or anything. He merely mentioned it to try and back up his idea that Easy Update is in fact really popular and almost everyone loves it the way it is. Not only is pursuing this thread irrelevant (until you can argue that it actually is) but as I said prior he has a clear bias and would go in trying to prove something with statistics over actually looking at it objectivelly. He demonstrated this already.

I emphasis you as the majority of people I know like Easy Update.

That matters how? Did you also consider that you're generally drawn to people that like the things you like so using that as some sort of indicator is seldom a good idea. But whatever, let's drop this. No point in continuing.
I was interested in discussing the show, not this irrelevant and pointless bickering.

@futurecorpse said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

Honestly you've a privileged life when you can moan about all this sjw/atl right nonsense. Settle down have a family you'll know what really matters in life.

If that's directed at me then that's frankly pretty ignorant. You know borderline nothing about me yet decide to make some bold statements about my life. But by all means elaborate on how you extrapolated info from my posts that I haven't settled down with a family, etc. Or preferably don't, since you can't and it'd get this topic even more side-tracked and off-topic.

Also I didn't start this. I very clearly wanted to discuss the show but TokyoSlim got upset that someone dares think that EasyUpdate isn't amongst the most popular EZA content. I frankly couldn't care less about that.
The some people perceive me as being aggressive because I dared call someone narrow-minded and white-knight. It was also funny how TokyoSlim took this personally and got even more upset yet accused me of this when again I just don't care about him or what he's peddling.
But again whatever, it's clear some people here don't actually want to discuss the actual show and instead want to bicker (for reference, I made it clear I had no interst in going on about this bickering but you people can't seem to be able to let it go, so I tried to clarify some things yet you just kept the ball rolling) about irrelevant stuff. No reason to be in a thread with people like that. A shame, but hey what can you do. But go ahead and blame it all on me for being a narrow-minded meanie or something if it makes you feel better.

  • @suplextrain No it wasnt directed at you. I respect your opinions . Im just tired of all the mud slinging in social media from both sides

  • @suplextrain said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

I strive to challenge my ideas

Clearly, considering you make such a huge deal about ignoring any posts that even hint of challenging your ideas. lol

He didn't post them, didn't compare them or anything.

Oh, you want that now? I thought you didn't so I didn't bother providing the actual numbers before.
Just remember, I'm not telling you my opinions on numbers, I'm just passing along the numbers I looked at. *

*these numbers may no longer be exact given that they were taken from YT like 15 hours ago, but it's unlikely they've changed significantly enough to alter the overall rankings since then.

Patron funded show average youtube views per episode dating back 10 weeks:
Frame Trap = 29,045 an episode over 5 episodes over the past 10 weeks.
Friend Code = 12,647 over 6 episodes over the past 10 weeks
Easy Update = 9208 over 10 episodes over the past 10 weeks
Tabletop = 7402 over 9 episodes over the past 10 weeks
Huber Syndrome = 6851 over 10 episodes over 10 weeks
Reaction Shots = 3442 over 2 episodes in the past 10 weeks.
Cup of Jones = I didn't bother to average it. It's only broken 1k twice in the last 10 weeks.

    • In 1/4 weeks where there's just a Frame Trap, Easy Update was the second highest viewed patron funded show.

    • In weeks where it's just Friend Code, 3/5 times Easy Update is the second or higher viewed patron funded show (10 weeks ago, and again 6 weeks ago it beat Friend Code and was first)

    • There is one week with both a Frame Trap AND a Friend Code, and Easy Update was the third highest viewed patron funded show.

So there you go. Now you can strive to challenge the idea that Easy Update is somehow not getting any youtube views.

He merely mentioned it to try and back up his idea that Easy Update is in fact really popular and almost everyone loves it the way it is

No, I mentioned it because you incorrectly stated that it's among the lowest viewed shows EZA produces. I have shown this not to be true. I have never once said that it is "really popular" or "everyone loves it". Just that your claim that it's "amongst the lowest viewed show content" is false.

On a week to week basis, it's still one of the highest viewed funded show content they produce. It's viewership fluctuates significantly based on whether that particular week seems interesting to people or not, but despite this, it's average is fine. Maybe 5k of the people watching every week hate it and just spite watch it so that they can complain about Ian on Reddit. I have no idea, because unlike you - I do not claim to speak for most people.

Did you also consider that you're generally drawn to people that like the things you like so using that as some sort of indicator is seldom a good idea.

Did you? Remember when I first replied to your post? Now would be a good time to strive to challenge your idea that "most people" don't like Easy Update. You don't know most people, nor have you shown any indication in this thread that you're particularly observant.

    TokyoSlim got upset

Yes, this is clearly my upset face.

It was also funny how TokyoSlim took this personally and got even more upset yet accused me of this

Your incredible leaps of logic and lack of self awareness are hilariously amusing to me, AND I like compiling data and being correct. So you've enabled several of my favorite things to come together in one place today! I have taken nothing you've called me personally. I'm not even sure you're capable of actual interpersonal communication without insulting the person you're talking to, so I just chalked it up as a character flaw of yours.

I'm just sitting here discussing the show you claim to want to discuss, directly addressing topics you brought up for discussion. That's what I'm doing.

  • There is a Canadian show with a similar format: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV_qemO0oatiLGCXTSE9mQzsUh2ho0MCl

Also, Ian and Elyse recently made a cameo as newscasters: https://youtu.be/vYCts8AFCro

  • @suplextrain I have to take issue with your comment about creativity. Creativity is a very personal thing, so I think you are out of line with that comment. Restrictions can just as easily lead to a collapse of creativity. I'd have to go back and reread Kyle's comments to be sure, but I believe that is why we have Box Peek and not The Final Bosman.

There are other points in your post that I agree and disagree with, but I don't have time to collect my thoughts to comment further since I am at work. If you want to discuss further I'd be happy to do so in PM when I get home.

  • What is happening?
