I have never really paid attention to soundtracks in games but now I want to try and listen to more. So what are your favourite soundtracks? Give me some recommendations to start with?

I highly recommend the Cave Story soundtrack:

My favorite two are "Safety" and "Last Battle", but the main theme is pretty iconic.I also highly recommend the game. You can download it for free, but it looks better if you purchase it from Steam or the Nintendo eStore. The 3DS port also makes good use of 3D by having the background further away. It's subtle, but it looks really good, IMO.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze might have the single greatest soundtrack known to humankind.
The variety, length, and sheer quantity of tracks is unbelievable. David Wise truly outdid himself.
He nails metal rock, peaceful melodies, and jazz.

The Nier ost is outstanding, so is the ost to Beyond Good & Evil

Yes, Beyond Good and Evil deserves a shout out. I hope Christophe Heral continues to colaborate with Michel Ancel.

Take your pick, buddy. But it really comes down to preference. What kind of OSTs do you like?

Also, for what it's worth, Monster Hunter and Gravity Rush have some kickin' orchestral tracks. (Of course, the more recent entries will have better sound quality and composition, so take that into account when searching.)

@KoalaShoots I like FF, KH and The Last of Us soundtracks a lot but those are the only ones I have ever really been a fan of.

Final Fantasy IX has some charming tracks & Snake Eater is cheesy; but good :p
Last but not least JET SET RADIOOOOOOOO!
