Easy Update - Official Discussion Thread

  • @alexwhiteplays it's probably either the length (not a valid reason to dislike imo) or the whole last segment which I'd say is valid but it's very brief and just the ending so you could just turn it off there. I wasn't particularly annoyed by it so didn't think others would be either.

  • Honestly, Easy Updates have been hit or miss for me. There have been some great ones, and 1 or 2 I have stopped midway through. I think a lot of it has to do with the guest. Sometimes I have no interest in the guest. I think the HyperLightDrifter episode was one I wasn't the biggest fan of. Then there was the one where he and Bosman played the Daddy/Baby simulator which is legitimately one of my favorite Allies videos. The one with him and Brad in Venice beach was great too.

This was a great one though, lots of cameos throughout, loved the B-roll and Ghost jokes.

I really want to see Shuhei in an Easy Updates vid. We know he has a good sense of humor (the Playstation game trading video from E3 2013) and is probably one of the few execs hat would just roll with whatever Ian is throwing out there.

  • @Lexad Having a Shuhei cameo would be awesome! And I can understand where you're coming from, as a fan of both HLD and Frog Fractions I really liked that one. I feel like having some amount of variety, a healthy amount of unpredictability, and good pacing is really the key for what keeps me interested in Easy Updates. For me personally, they've all been hits but in different ways. Then again, the more I see of stuff that Ian likes or has worked on, the more I realize that we just have very similar ideas about what constitutes good content.

  • Updated the OP with the latest episode. Sorry for the delay!

  • We'll never find out if Huber enjoyed his cookie.

  • I wonder if they like In-N-Out? Maybe Fatburger is more convenient to get to?

  • the Jones bit in this one was awesome.

  • HE'S AT IT AGAIN!

  • As a video editor this show just keeps on impressing me by Ian's skills. The shovel cut in the intro was particularly interesting this time around.

I am not a Californian, so I wasn't indoctrinated. I find FatBurger is a more appealing meal than In-n-out. In-N-Out is cheaper, sure, but I also think the quality is pretty bad too. I would honestly rather have Wendy's than In-N-Out

What? In-N-Out is super fresh. I only been to one once and I'm declaring it the best fast food I've had, ever.
I have fatburgers in my city, but they are nowhere near what I had when I went to In-N-Out at the LAX.

It's not just me. Take Anthony Bourdain, the God of Foodies, talking about how In-N-Out is his favourite restaurant in LA, even better than all of the high class restaurants he's been to.

    Youtube Video

  • I just can't stand em, I think there is a zeitgeist behind In-N-Out that says they have to be good when they really aren't. Part of it has to do that I don't like the things they add to the Animal Style, so I am just getting a plain cheese burger, which is just that, a plain cheeseburger. Most other places I can at least get Bacon.

I did love Huber when he said he will have the highest and lowest scores on EZA after Umbrella Corps

  • The thing I like about Easy Update is that the end credits of the show always has some sort of different/secret message in the credits that is shown for a brief second. It's fascinating to pause the video and see the silly messages that Ian puts on there.

I need to focus on that. I am usually in a rush and forget to do that.

  • Episode 15 by far and away is my favorite. Super grateful Mr. Hinck showed us his hometown and his sister and dad. Beautiful nature and the music was great. Don't know if he'll top that. So good.

  • I totally agree, Ian's usual personality in front of the camera has a lot of theatrical flair at times, and their sense of humor tends to often be forced awkwardness or ironic distancing. I like that stuff too, and I've loved every episode of the show so far, but putting Ian in a more domestic setting where they can peel back some of that was a joy to see. Natural environments seem to bring out the genuine side of people, and that really came through in this episode.

  • @alexwhiteplays Exactly. Being in a comfortable setting with people you love tends to show the best side of you (from my experience at least). It really doesn't hurt that the natural setting is gorgeous.

  • @Brannox Yeah I really enjoyed this one more so than the others for the exact same reasons. A really nice change of pace and the episode just flew by as a result! Good stuff Ian, keep it up.

  • It's a real dichotomy with this ep and last ep in terms of location.

I really hate the LA for being a literally cement city. Barely see trees anywhere (except Jones's backyard?). Lots of trees in this hometown.

  • @Whoaness Los Angeles is WAY bigger than just the city. It's an entire county that covers a few hundred square miles. It can be a beach town like Santa Monica, a metropolis like downtown LA, or a canyon town like Topanga (not saying Jones lives here, I have no idea where he lives). It gets a bad rap sometimes for being so insanely huge, but it's a cool place. Even as a New Yorker, I can admit I'd like to try living there :P
