This is a great start to what looks to be a really cool series.
A topic for another time but the act of comparing video games to film has often been detrimental to video games, how we think about them and even how we develop them. To be clear I'm not having a go at your use of it here, it makes total sense, I'm speaking in general terms. More on that sometime if it interests you or anyone else on the forums, no need for a derail.
King's Quest 2 isn't the best in the series, nor my favourite, but it'll stand in as a pick for this year. That's only the case because I missed both I'm Sorry and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

@Ringedwithtile Great post and topic! One of my favorites from 1985 is Ice Climbers on NES. It's one of the first games I have ever played. It certainly isn't a classic or as influental as Super Mario Bros, but it will always have a special place in my heart.
@flower_arrangement I would like to hear more about how comparing videogames and film is detrimental to games. Looking forward on topic about that if you are interested in doing it.

@Budi
Cool, that's a long topic, and something I've been thinking about for ages.It might take a while to put my thoughts together, out of interest (this is open to anyone to answer) do you think it would be better to post it as a blog or a general discussion topic?
-
@flower_arrangement personally I would put it in general discussion, especially if you are up for discussion about the subject =P

@Budi
Ha ha, definitely up for discussion! That's the point after all!

Re-reading this it just occurred to me that Jeremy Parish's NES and Gameboy video series sit in the same kind of critical analysis approach.
Perhaps and probably you're already aware of him and his work, but if not I think you'll enjoy these:
If nothing else the Duck Hunt episode is fantastic, and this side video is equally great:

Other then the ones you mentioned, I loved Gauntlet. Granted I played it much later, but I still love to go to my local arcade and steal all the food from my fiance. I don't know why he still plays that game with me.
Warrior needs food!
Valkyrie stole it all!
