Tabletop Escapades - Official Discussion Thread [Spoilers]

  • #82: Kyle and Ben's horse show was just perfect. Like what is this, what am I watching? :D Oh man, pure gold.

  • The remnant of Yogalla's spirit nodding in approval as Fame murders a dragonborn and then giving Evadora Peach to her is all the closure to Yogalla that I need. 'Tis beautiful.

Also Pomper using "Create Food & Drink" to dowse Disgraced was icing on the cake.

  • Meant to say that I really liked the double bill episode. Not sure if it was due to the break or whatever but it just felt like a lot of fun.

    And here is the latest!

    Youtube Video

  • So close to being done.

  • Ian is #GOAT.

  • Well... that was the end of an era.

I get the distinct feeling Fame is just going to become an NPC, but we'll see.

  • @SabotageTheTruth
And the beginning of a new one.

  • The side chatter was a bit insane for the first half, but still enjoyed it. Looking forward to next season.

  • Good stuff, 85 episodes and almost 20 months or something. Crazy when you think about it like that. All I'd like them to have next is somekind of a small whiteboard to help them clarify some of the battle scenarios to each other and to the audience as well.

Kyle will clearly create a new character which I'm totally okay with. I mean okay, this peace version of Fame got some laughs out of me, but there was no replacing Yogalla in the middle of the campaign like this.

This episode had a great moment, that honestly made me emotional for a small while. One of the most touching moments of the whole season.

Moof hugging Pomper and just holding him tight. Such a great flashback to everything, that made me feel things. :')

  • @Sentinel-Beach Definitely agree a simple whiteboard or bringing back roll-20 would help keep things more organized and reduce the amount of time eaten up by confusion.

Something else that would be nice is if they had some way of doing a quick recap of the previous episode's events before they start filming, because there were soooo many times where things were just forgotten or misremembered that it sometimes really hurt the show's consistency.

They all need to start taking notes, especially the players since I'm pretty sure Ben at least makes notes on his DM stuff. I'm willing to bet more than half of all the ret-cons that have happened were because they didn't write down when something happened to their character and just forgot about it.

They could use Roll20 on iPads and only use it during battles to keep track of positioning. They don't even need to show the viewers or have tokens or stuff like that. Just use the whiteboard function in Roll20.

Also, I doubt Huber will make a new character, since Pomper seems to be cemented even harder as the main character, but if he does he should really play a grizzled veteran character since that's what all his characters turn into. j/k

Yeah, I liked Fame and also thought the Peace thing was pretty funny in the moment but it was obvious that the she had turned into a contrarian character that wouldn't go along with anything the party did.

  • @Minamik I totally disagree. Roll20 is slow and everyone needs to see what going on. if they where playing from their own home then yes it would be a benefit. Now imo I think buying a real whiteboard to pud over the table and ben drawing the map and using smal figures that would make more fun for them. for production value I would then put a camera having from the sealing giving a view of the table for us and still have the old setup camera on top of that. This would give us the viewer a good view what happening on the table.
Ben would not have to spend hours in roll20 to prep everything like maps mobs and so on all could be done the same way and he could draw things on the whiteboard with ease

I know this is not a easy thing to do but imo it would make the crew have more fun while still having the creative freedom that table top RPG is all about.

  • @fettouhi

Roll20 has a whiteboard. You don't need to make maps or anything. If they really want the viewer to see it they can just use screen capture. It's a lot cheaper than buying an actual whiteboard and figures.

  • @fettouhi Hmm, that might be why I said, "a simple whiteboard or roll-20." :)

  • @Olf_Himself fx 2 people move and they need to explain to ben where they want to move compared to a figure and then ben say you can do that because its in the movement length you can do. Yes they can move in roll20 them self but they are not all going to be using a PC while in the same room filmen. Roll20 is really good for online TT RPG but not every good for offline or hybrid. they having everyone look at a screen or everyone having a laptop in the garage.

Also what if the internet doesn't work or roll20 is down for mantenance when they are playing? 20roll is good and all but I do think there model and how they play is old school before virtual whiteboards and that is also the charm of the show imo

  • @fettouhi
Roll20 is available on iPad so Ben could have the PC and the players could share the pad. I don't disagree that a real set-up would be better but it costs money.
And yeah sure the internet could be down but that's not something that's really necessary to take into consideration. I mean what if the power in Jones' garage went out?
Then they couldn't record anyway even if they used a real whiteboard. Why worry about something that's impossible to control?

  • Just watched episode 85, the ending felt like an anime season finally, the good guys defeated the bad guy but wait... There was another bad guy acting behind the scenes!! I love it.

I don't know if it's possible to change the DM considering it is ben story, but it would be fun to have ben be a party member, i hope that they upgrade the set up in some way, siting in a podcast style doesn't work for me, having the DM in the middle and two to the left and right so they can have some visual representation ( Map, screen, etc) would help the players and viewers alot.

I would prefer the current setup to stay because it gives the party a feeling of unity.

  • Both my drawlings made it onto the episode! So stoked about that!

  • I suggest not watching after 48:44. If you do, I don't claim any responsibility for any nightmares you may or may not end up having.
