Brandon Plays Pokémon - Official Discussion Thread

  • @seppo91 Yeah, exactly in the same boat with you. I never officially acknowledged the existence of any Pokemon beyond Mew, so this fill me up with a LOT of nostalgia :) Fun to see somebody experience it for the first time..

  • Brandon's rant about using the rod is my favourite moment of this so far, such a great series. I hope they can pick it up later in the year for Pokemon Gold/Silver, or even Heart Gold/Soul Silver is that's easy to do since it'll already work in the 3DS.

If they do another one I'd like to see them jump to X/Y so Brandon can experience how much the series has changed in 20 years or have both Kyle & Brandon going in blind on Sun/Moon and comparing notes each episode. If they time it with the release of Sun/Moon the community could get more involved with the show. Playing along and offering their own observations to be featured on the show.

While I'd love to see Brandon play through each Gen with Kyle guiding him when needed, it might be too much to ask/expect!

I don't necessarily want to see them do every single game in the series, but I definitely think Brandon should play Gold/Silver before jumping forward. The Gen 2 games are such a great follow-up to Gen 1 and the best time to play them is after R/B, but before you've played any others.

I'm biased because Silver's my favourite in the series, but listening to Brandon talk about his experience with Red Version has reminded me so much of my first time with the game that I think it would be a huge shame for him to miss out on this prime opportunity for him to get the most out of Silver or Gold.

This is by far my favourite series going on at the moment!

It takes me back and the passion from both Kyle and Brandon feels so.. genuine!

I really REALLY want them to continue with Gen 2 after Red is finished. After that I wouldnt mind which or if more games are being played in the Pokemon series, but at least think that Gen 2 should be played!

  • I'm excited for Brandon to run into his first legendary. I wonder if he'll catch them on his first try.
I can see him getting pretty excited about those battles.

I think this is when he's going to use his Master Ball. Who's the first one you usually run into? Zapdos?

  • Usually Articuno, since a lot of people go from Fuchsia to Cinnabar. If Jones chooses to swim south from Pallet to Cinnabar instead, he'll likely hit up Moltres first. Zapdos is generally the last one found cause the Power Plant is so far out of the way and nothing really points you in that direction.

  • This series gives me such an appreciation for Pokemon as a long time fan myself. Every game so far, I've always wanted to know absolutely everything about the game before going in. I would know the whole pokedex and what my party will look like by the end of the game.

Sun and Moon will be different this time. I'm not going entirely media blackout, but I want to play it more like any other RPG rather than the usual Pokemon groove that I got in to.

    Thanks, Jones!

  • @Inflorescence My guess is Articuno, considering that he "knows" to go south from fuschia city...

Then we'd be Master Ball buddies!

What did you guys use your Master Ball on?

First time I played, I never used it, as I was afraid to "use it wrongly", but afterwards I always used it on Mewtwo.

I usually keep it for Mewtwo but on my recent Virtual Console playthrough if Yellow I forgot to take it out of the PC and ended up catching Mewtwo with a Great Ball of all things! In the end I decided to use the Master Ball to catch that most elusive of pray, a level 4 Rattata from Route 1. Totally worth it!

  • I never thought I'd be so invested into a series that covers Pokemon weekly. I really enjoy Pokemon games, but never really got into the culture or watching videos on the topic. It's amazing to see Brandon go in blind and have a perspective that was never really involved with the animated series or even the games. Bosman is hilarious as always and he gets into it so much that it's more interesting to watch and you respect the time and effort they are putting in to such a prevalent series.

  • Episode 6 is live!

  • I can't believe he guessed the final gym leader. What in the world. I guess it was less obvious at the time, but props to Brandon.

I can't believe Kyle managed to keep a straight face when Brandon guessed right. Wonder if he saw it coming and had already steeled himself.

  • That is pretty impressive. I haven't gotten around to watching yet, but pretty sweet he guess that

Briliant episode as always! But I really REALLY want to stress that he should play silver next! Its such a good follow up that to miss it would be bad! Make it happen kyle! after there however he can go to any bit. It just feels like Silver/gold are such a crucial step he must take.

  • I've been trying to think of a way to get Brandon to trade, but if he doesn't want to I don't think the issue should be forced upon him. That being said, I would still like him to see what can happen. I'm pretty sure at least 1 other ally has bought a version of the game on 3DS, which gave me a few ideas.

I would like to see Kyle film a trade with that ally in the same setting where they film BPP, without Brandon in the room knowing whats happening, where he receives maybe a certain rock pokemon to use in his final battle with Jones. Kyle and the ally discuss the show a little bit and the trade they're making before it fades to black, and the episode with Brandon begins.

The other option would be that the ally can be in the room with them while they're filming the episode. Imagine it starts with Brandon introducing the show, meanwhile Kyle and the ally are on their 3DS' doing the trade. Kyle can continue to talk to Brandon, but the other ally wouldn't say a word until the trade is complete and then leaves the room. Kyle saves and closes his 3DS and goes on about the episode normally leaving Brandon to wonder what the hell just happened.

I say ally, I'm picturing Huber or Ben because they both said they were going to get at least a version during the Direct announcement reaction live stream.

No idea, if anyone else likes this idea but I feel like it would be a fun way to have a contigency plan to introduce Brandon to the mechanic if he never pushes Kyle for a trade.

Another great episode, honestly probably my favorite thing EZA has done so far.
