Easy Allies Podcast - Official Discussion Thread

  • Someone needs to animate the corrections segment this week with Paragon characters standing in for the allies.

  • It feels so weird listening to the guys when none of them have any connection to the original Spyro trilogy. Like, why? I'm 30 years old, and for me Spyro has always felt just as big as Crash. They were literally the two different sides of the same coin back then. Even marketed together, I remember ads from 20 years ago where they both were side by side. There's so much love for Spyro out there that EZA has no idea about.

Huber's Baywatch pull was magical, by the way. :)

  • @sentinel-beach i think the main reason is that most of them were kinda Nintendo fan boys when they were young, I'm 29 and i remember playing Spyro alot because i only had a PS1.

  • It's obvious that it's just a case of what you spent time with, they're all Nintendo and (Ian) PC buffs. Rob from PS Access but together a video today about how Gaming is different as an adult.

He pointed out that when you're a kid you play through the games you have multiple times, so it always feels like the games you and your friends played were "bigger" than the games you didn't play, when looking back now. There's no social media, no Twitter, to pull up and see that Spyro had 40k likes.

Spyro was probably my second most played game, with Tony Hawks being first. Spyro equals childhood for me. I replayed Spyro 1 many many times (I would later learn that I was speedrunning the game without a timer) mastering the movement systems, discovering secrets (Tree Tops was the shit). I remember grinding the challenges in Gateway to Glimmer for Orbs so I could fight the final boss. And I remember spending hours on the Skateboard in Enter the Dragon. So much fun!

Crash destroyed the Sales charts here in the UK, it was the highest selling exclusive in 2017, beating the likes of Horizon, Mario, Zelda, Gran Turismo, as well as multi-plats to become 6th overall, with only FIFA, CoD, GTA, AC, and Star Wars outselling it. I think given the release date of Spyro, the charts are going to be very interesting, just to see what happens. Spyro is just as popular as Crash here but it's coming out at a really difficult time. Spiderman in the rear-view which is okay (honestly I expect Spiderman to have zero effect on sales of Spyro, I don't care was the Allies think), but CoD a few weeks after, and FIFA 19 is probably going to be released the week following. I worry that people might decide to save their money for their annual must-buys.

  • Okay, there is no way DQXI sells better than any of those games. Sorry, but I just doubt that. I know they love the series
So I think it's an easy list.
Spider-Man, Tomb Raider, Spyro, Dragon Quest.

Also about the prison question I would recommend D&D or other tabletop games. It could be a great way to do something similar to videogames. There was a great article on vice about this trend.

  • @inustar That's the exact story I had in mind during that question!

  • @inustar I mean DQXI is a game I hope to play through this year, but yeah, the boys let their ideals blind them from reality. Fun banter none the less.

  • #111 is a really solid podcast episode. Good topics, interesting talk, and there's a lot of funny and unexpected moments in the air. All four of them did good. And man, that closing moment with this certain ally just never gets old. Especially with the asterisk nowadays. :D

  • #111 - The D-Day discussion is fantastic.

  • #112 - Gengar on the desk makes me way too happy.

  • #113. I laughed out of joy to Kyle's memories of just staring a wall in Perfect Dark Zero. :D Oh man, that jump to HD was truly something amazing back then. I had that with PS3 and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Uhh, such a great memory!

  • The new flat lighting with the hint of colour is great (I wouldn't even mind more colour tbh). I love the multiple angles. Wondering if the ribbon mics should come back or maybe a mix of lav and ribbon? I felt like the audio was ever so slightly muted. Not a complaint. Everything is great and I'm glad the community pulled through to make these changes.

  • Love the new camera angles and mics - almost want to start watching the podcast each week rather than listening on Apple Podcasts! And sure it'll continue to improve as the weeks go by :)

Great shows guys. I just was wondering why no one has mentioned the passing of a fellow YouTube game critic. I think that would be news worthy. Where's the L&R ?

  • @acidtrip-69 For whatever it's worth Kyle brought it up near the end of his For Frog the Bell Tolls stream last week.

  • Damn this looked good now. And Ian was doing great job as the director, things worked really well. And he took part in the conversation in a good measure, no sudden or annoying or anything like that remarks. Keep it up guys, solid work! And Brad's whole final winning segment was just too good throughout. :)

@hanabi I guess but I think just one person saying little at the end of a stream doesn't cover the sad and big impact this person left on gaming and YouTube as a whole.

  • Such a good podcast the latest one. The excitement, energy and anticipation was all around the guys, I could feel it through the screen. The next seven days or so are going to be nuts! Overdose of EZA content and new games just everywhere. Literally countless hours, I'm ready!

Rufus is indeed getting old. Dufus is canon.

  • #118. What is the reason for so many down votes this time? The comments seem to be about some anime or fighting game, but when did they even talk about something like that? I completely missed this apparent controversy, could I get a time stamp or something?

Edit. Okay, found it in the comments. So it was about that SNK thing around the Dark Souls bet. Didn't even know what that was. Insanity in comments. I'm good.
