Easy Allies Podcast - Official Discussion Thread

  • I wonder if it's all those same people who were upset about Brandon talking with Collin, who are that attacked the Peach Beach people, and are now throwing insults at anyone who enjoys fan service games.

  • There was a post that went up on the subreddit about it, and I was expecting it to be way worse. I thought it was a pretty funny bit. Definitely a case of a vocal minority (that will definitely never forget this and will bring it up every time fan service is vaguely alluded to from now til the end of eternity).

  • For whatever it's worth what I'm getting out of the comments is that people aren't really upset that he's not a fan of what the game is as much as they are that the phrase "be a better person, don't buy this game" implies that buying the game (nevermind enjoying it) makes you a bad, or at least worse, person. While it is just a joke it comes across less as "haha this game" and more "haha this fanbase" and I mean, while fans of anything don't like having their thing be put down they obviously dislike being put down themselves even more.

  • @hanabi Yeah. I don't care about this game, and I dislike games that have too much fanservice, but even I thought the be a better person line was perhaps a step too far. There is nothing inherently wrong with people enjoying looking at sexy characters.
That being said I do think I prefer it if people say what they really mean, so if Damiani really thinks that... it's fine. He'll just have to deal with the comments.

  • Everyone knows who SNK Heroines is made for. At least be honest with yourself when someone draws attention to that. Because you could be a better person.

Edit: Just looked at the YouTube comments. Wow, guys. You make it really hard to be empathetic.

  • @inflorescence I never liked this attitude. Everyone should play and enjoy what he/she likes. Not judging people is also part of "Love and Respect".

SNKH is not a game I'm going to buy day one but there are games with lots of fan service that I really enjoy. The Senran Kagura games, Medarots Girl Mission and the Neptunia games just to name a few.

Being called not a good person because of liking those games kinda stings.

  • It's ridiculous that people are still getting so bent out of shape over or even taking the comment seriously.

  • @sacred-arfaid It didn't really felt like a joke to me.

  • This seems like a sensitive subject for you.
Even if it wasn't a joke, I feel like it would be a good idea to learn to accept that some people will think this way about fan service games.
It's unlikely to change and the response only tends to make matters worse. Have a bit more confidence in yourself, so that the slights won't hurt as much.

  • @sacred-arfaid I can only speak for myself but it's not about whether my skin is thick enough to take a slight. I know a lot of people don't like fanservice games and that doesn't really bug me. Everyone's got different tastes after all. It's just a bad look to spread a message of Love and Respect but then to ignore that when it comes to something you don't like and say that you'd be a better person if you didn't buy or enjoy "those" kind of games.

  • About the mega sponsors:
Only Hoeg Law was mentioned this week, yet Blue stands down there at the main page among the others as well. Did Brandon make a mistake, or wasn't Blue a (mega) sponsor for July and will be again for August?

  • @TheHashtag0nist haven't seen you on here in awhile and normally I wouldn't address something like this publicly but it's in podcast halftime so.... sorry to hear about recent events, hope things pick up for you! Best of luck.

@sentinel-beach oh, that's my mistake. Blue dropped down from Mega Sponsor to Frame Trap this month.

  • I've long considered Kyle to be the best host in the video games podcasting realm, but he has been absolutely killing it in the last few weeks with the desire index.

  • Blood, just be more aggressive next time. I could see you liked both Darksiders and Tomb Raider more than their positions now show (as do I!), but Brandon wasn't having it. Loved the shut up moment, still. And sure, this is all just fun and games, but it's always more fun with some HOTTAKES! :)

  • I think there's a conspiracy against Brad, first he loses the EZA title and now KH3 gets the shaft!!!

    This post is deleted!

  • I liked this week's podcast a lot. (Even if there wasn't Desire Index in it.) Good console rumours, Comic Con conversation went along nicely. The L&R especially was very good, really liked that actor quiz about movie games. Good to have No Man's Sky in there as well, and the Yakuza scenarios were funny to listen to.

  • I forgot to mention this, but how do you all feel about the lack of screenshots or videos on the podcast? Particularly in this latest episode the panel watched and commented on a lot of stuff that wasn't shown to the audience, and that felt frustrating to many in the comments, me included. They show stuff all the time on their group streams etc., but I wonder if this is a quality issue maybe. Like Kyle wants to keep the podcast "clean", no sudden haphazard screenshots in there. And I kind of get it, as the EZA Podcast is for sure their most valuable asset. Still a bummer, though.

  • I think that if they're not going to quickly and effectively put together a solution for the visual stuff that they're looking at on the screen, then they need to stop doing it. It doesn't necessarily have to be on the fly screen switching, but if Ian just wrote down links for stuff he shows and then sticks it in the description of the video and any other services the podcast is on, preferably with timestamps.

But honestly, I don't think they should be doing it at all. It's a podcast after all. They shouldn't be looking at stuff to see what it is being talked about, someone should be describing what it was through their words.

    Youtube Video – [58:19..]

This is a good example. Kyle is describing what the show looks like but as soon as Ian brings up the trailer on screen everyone stops talking, reacts to what they're seeing instead of continuing to describe it for the listener.

I understand why it might seem like it's a good idea, but in my opinion it brings the quality down, and instead they should do just a bit more preparation before hand so they're aware of what's being talked about, anything that's brought up by another Ally should then just be described by that Ally.
