Musical favorites/ Recommendations
-
I'm a bit of a musical person, so I thought this might be a neat way to share/expand our musical tastes/libraries.
I'll listen to a little of everything, but I love me some classical rock, and big band jazz. Gordon Goodwin is a great big band leader that I've been a fan of for nearly a decade.
Youtube VideoMy main recommendation is actually not gonna fall in either genre though. A coworker recently brought the artist Jordan Rudess to my attention. He's a keyboardist/synthesist (? lol) in the band Dream Theater, but also has a couple of his own albums out. The more rock based ones are intense and catchy, and the more classical ones are super technical, but relaxing at the same time.

@flower_arrangement First one isn't heavy enough, second is too lo-fi. I'm into the high-energy, hoovered-up stuff:

@Oscillator
My god, Seawolf not heavy enough, respect to be fair.Before I post a bunch of nonsense, you into techno etc? Drexciya or modern Berghain type noise? Also up for a spin D'n'B, Jungle and general electronic stuff.
Friend of mine used to put this on way back when:

I'll admit it. I'm Kpop trash. I would probably sell my car to finance an AfterSchool comeback, I know, it's bad. But, Kpop is not. A lot of people write it off as generic pop or unoriginal, but it's not. It covers a wide variety of genres and is a lot more creative than a lot of stuff coming out on the western pop market. (I've realized in hindsight that these are all female artists.)
Ladies Code: They've faced enough tragedy to last a lifetime (two members died in 2014), but they're back, and they're still incredibly strong musically.
So Wonderful, Kiss Kiss, GalaxyWonder Girls: Queens of the retro concept. Used to be a dance group, now they're a band. Chances are you've heard "Nobody" somewhere, since it was popular enough to crack the American charts and be released in 4 languages. Their "Reboot" album is a masterpiece.
Nobody, So Hot/I Feel You Remixes, Candle/I Feel You, Reboot Album TeaserGFriend: When you think Kpop, you might think of a schoolgirl concept, super bright pop. That is Gfriend, but they are POWERHOUSES and rookies to boot.
Me Gustas Tu, RoughMamamoo: They've got a funny name, but their talent is no joke.
Mr. Ambiguous/Um Oh Ah Yeah, You're The Best, Piano ManAfterSchool: My ultimate bias group. Performance wise they just might be the strongest girl group. They've literally learned drumline, tap dance, and pole art for comebacks. (And yes they did sing live while pole dancing.) Name a genre, and they've probably done it.
First Love, First Love Remix, Shh, Flashback, BEST Album TeaserHonorable Mentions:
Luna-Free Somebody, EXID-L.I.E, GaIn-Truth or Dare, AKMU-ReBye, Ailee-Mind Your Own BusinessRed Velvet-Dumb Dumb, F(x)-4 Walls

@flower_arrangement Well, aside from what I posted, I do enjoy strong, upbeat dance music:
But breakbeat/piano/abstract, not my thing at all. Gotta be intense!

@michemagius
Don't you dare tell anyone but I've got a real soft spot for Mamamoo and EXID. IT'S A SECRET TO EVERYONE.

Been on an A Perfect Circle kick lately
I'm really into rock music mostly.. big punk fan and was into metal for awhile too. Played in jazz bands also so I listen to some jazz every once in awhile. A bit of everything really

@flower_arrangement Don't worry, your secret's safe with me.

Well, I was gonna let this thread go by because my musical tastes run strongly towards the Ian Hinck end of the spectrum, but @kirkking2000 did say classic rock, so here's a couple favorite deep cuts.
Captain Beyond was a 70's supergroup made up of members of Iron Butterfly, Deep Purple, and Johnny Winters's band. I like them because they have the power of Zeppelin and Sabbath but mix in some cool prog-rocky weirdness.
Youtube VideoMike Heron was the singer for The Incredible String Band, and honestly I don't know much of their music or Heron's solo stuff. But this track features Keith Moon (indisputably the greatest rock drummer to ever live--don't even argue, I will die on this hill!), his The Who bandmate Mr. Pete Townshend, and for good measure John Cale of Velvet Underground fame. This one takes a couple minutes to get going, but it finishes strong.

But for the sake of sucking up the the EZA crowd, here's Chrono Trigger played all classical piano. :)

Big fan of a lot of things. Right now I'm in a big math rock mood. Stuff like Battles for some really good grooves. TTNG just released a new song yesterday thats got me really hyped on their new album next month. https://soundcloud.com/sargent-house/ttng-sponkulus-nodge

Track #3 "Makin' A Move" is my favorite from this EP. This is their newest, but I'd also suggest their other EPs. -
Night Runner - https://nightrunnermusic.bandcamp.com/album/starfighter
Track #7 "The Sentinels" is very Daft Punk and track 8 "Nuclear Countdown" is just fantastic.
And one I've just recently discovered today which I'm really digging so far.

I'm a ska monster myself, actively trying to find tracks from the most obscure non longer existing band, but I listen to a whole bunch of nonsense.

Ok, so Wonder Girls just had their second comeback as a band and I can't help but gush. The whole mini album is phenomenal, and absolutely lives up to the high bar set up with their previous release Reboot, which was undoubtedly one for the best albums of 2015 and one of my all time favorites. They've just grown so much as artists and are releasing such amazing music, It's a dream come true for a fan.
