The EZA Community Top 25 Best of 2016!

  • Of all the 2016 games to be released, The Witness is the one I'm on the fence the most about. Up until now, I have not played it, but the more I think about it, the more (however very incrementally it is) appealing it becomes. I love the art style, and I enjoy a good puzzle, but the time sink dedicated to this is staggering for me, especially when this is a game you can't put down for an extended period of time. I'm happy to see it make the top ten. Even though I haven't played, I marvel in its design and intricate complexities.

  • The Witness is definitely on my list of games to get to. I'm a little intimidated because I'm not a huge puzzle game fan, but I've heard a lot of good things.

  • The Witness is a fantastic game and a testament to excellent modern day game design.

Blow and his team really outdid themselves in how they teach you the rules of the puzzles. Really love that game.

  • Not bad! It was my #1 for the year, but I can see how it's not EVERYONE'S number 1. :)

  • I'm most pleased that Pokemon got all placements from 1 to 5 and god multiple votes. It shows that it panders to the wide range of audience. It's nice to see the franchise coming oit in a big way.

  • I have said this before and I say it again, Pokemon games are some of the best RPG's out there, which fit for gamers of all age.
I haven't played the Pokemon games once they made the jump to 3DS, because I don't own one, but I still hold the series in high regard.

Pokémon made it! :D Even though I havent played any of the recent games, I still believe that it deserves to be here on the list! I mean just Brandon and Kyles show were enough to almost made me pick up a 3DS and Sun!

  • To be perfectly honest, Pokemon is the first game of the whole list I have absolutely no interest in playing.

And the really bad thing is that I love Pokemon, but I just can't oversee the fact that most of the problems I have with the franchise's games and the way they handle the franchise is completely at odds with what I want from it, so until they day I see a real change with it, I'm gonna stay away from it.

  • Good to see so much love for my new favourite Pokémon game! I'm still playing it and I'm loving every moment of it.

  • I figured Pokemon would make the cut just for the sheer number of people who picked it up. I do honestly think it is the best Pokemon game in a long time and I'm glad they've finally started to slowly chip at the framework they've been using for years with the series and make things more fluid.

  • I haven't liked Pokemon since the fourth generation, as I felt that Diamond/Pearl wasn't what I like about Pokemon games (the mainline ones anyway) and I haven't played one since. With the hype surrounding it by those here and Misters Jones and Bosman with Brandon Sun, Kyle Moon, I'm not shocked it has a spot in the top ten. After watching that series, I'm actually happy I didn't grab either entry because there are things missing I enjoyed from the first three gens, and things present I'm averse to. Either way, congrats to Pokemon for its placement!

  • @Brannox My story with pokemon is very much the same, got blue in elementary school and loved it. Gen 2 was my favorite. Gen 3 was great but was starting to show its age. I gave the series up until i watched projared play pokemon y played that game and while i enjoyed it they didnt change much. got moon for Christmas while im liking the new things the series needs a major makeover for me to buy the next game.

  • @bard91 This is the generation where they did make a bunch of changes though. Granted, the hand holding is a bit extreme at the beginning and the story is a trash fire, but the improvements made in this one make it my second favorite generation of all time - only surpassed by the Gold/Silver era.

  • The Last Guardian isn't in my top 5, but I'm surprised it is only #8.

  • I didn't include The Last Guardian in my list because I still have to finish it so I haven't got a full opinion of the game yet. I think I'm about halfway through and my feelings towards the game are mixed at the moment. There is some great stuff in there, some true wow moments and Trico as a creature is fun to interact with even when it is not doing exactly what you want it to.

BUUUUUUUUT one of the things I had to do when I last played it (spoilers for a shitty "puzzle" in this next bit) was throw barrels onto ramped slopes, jump over and grab them before they dropped into a ditch forcing me to go back to the first ramp. That crap was archaic ten years ago and the long dev cycle for the game does not really justify it being in there.

So at the moment it is a mixed bag of a game but I'm hoping there is something towards the end of the game that turns me around.

  • @jipostus Exactly. And the thing I love about Pokemon games is that they're RPGs I don't have to learn everything new from scratch. Even with new and welcome additions, I know the general premise and I know the battle system. In a strange way I feel about it as I do Grand Theft Auto, it's like an old jumper but it always makes feel warm and cosy inside.

  • I want to play The Last Guardian so badly. Whatever day I fly home, first thing I'm doing is running into a store, getting a PS4 Pro and TLG.

Once I complete it, I'll talk to my family :D

  • I have the same feeling about Pokemon as a couple other people here. I played the first 2 when they first came out and I was young and loved them but kinda got burnt out past that. 3rd gen just lost some of that magic for me and I haven't played any on the DS or 3DS since I don't own them. Its cool to see that they keep making them, they are getting better, and people like them but for me its a franchise that I've played enough and are perfectly happy with skipping unless there is a serious overhaul to the gameplay.

Haven't played The Last Guardian yet but want to some day.

I'm starting to wonder if I'll see any of my other votes show up.
