The EZA Community Top 25 Best of 2016!

  • @Tragosaurus If you're intrigued but intimidated, you could always try out Civilization: Revolution. It's a streamlined spin-off released for consoles that is more accessible while retaining the essence of Civilization. I found it very easy to jump right into. Then, if you like it, you'll at least have a base understanding of some mechanics to take with you into the more complex mainline entries.

  • @Tragosaurus It's really not that bad, I jumped into 5 knowing nothing at all about civ, one game in easy difficulty later, I had a really good grasp on most of the mechanics.

Now victoria 2 in the other hand.

  • Ah Civilization. I'm not surprised that it made it, especially with the hype the Allies had for it around the time of launch and I think it was brought up in GOTY talk, but the two things about Civilization made me pass on it: I don't like strategy games, and I don't game on PC. With that said, I recognize Civilization is one of the premiere brands in both and is a good option for those interested in the strategy genre.

  • @Tragosaurus It really isn't all that difficult. Civ 6 was my entry to the franchise and I caught up very fast.

  • I have huge respect for the Civ series, and I'm sure this is phenomenal game, but they tend to go way over my head at some stage. That's why I prefer more simpler strategy games, such as Heroes III Complete. I love that game dearly, and the WoG mod expansion for it makes it insanely good. But my god, trying to play it without HD mod with my current setup is a no go... So chunky...

But anyways, Civ is amazing, but it's not for me.

  • @Billy @bard91 @Nillend Cool, then maybe I'll check it out sometime when I have a gaming lull and can snag one relatively cheap. While not very similar I did recently play the board game Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization and loved it. It took a long time to learn and get through our first game but I enjoyed every second of it. It seems to have a similar concept as Civ so this was when I first thought that I might want to check it out sometime.
If I were to pick one up today what would you suggest? Is Civ6 the undeniable best Civ game or is going back an entry better?

  • Never played, and I DO care!

  • Civ VI is great but the Ai is iffy, and I can't convince enough of my friends to get it so I can play multiplayer.

Tad annoyed I logged in yesterday to a two week old message asking for votes hahaha, now how will firewatch get the votes it deserves??

Civilization is a game that just scares me. There seems to be too much going on it is daunting for a newcomer to jump, or at least that's how I feel. I probably will never play a single second of a Civ game but I can definitely see why they are so highly regarded.

You're not alone, and I play every release and have been since II. Still love it. It's better when you wait until some good primers get put together for newbies.

    10+ years, constant newbie.

  • It's so nice that #19 is someone's GotY.

  • I really enjoyed Titanfall 2 but there is just something missing from it for me that I can't quite put my finger on.

Oh only 19? =( For me this is easily GOTY, but then again I havent played Uncharted 4 yet.

Titanfall 2 were really unlucky how it got released between battlefield and Call of Duty, its like the ultimate FUBAR. I feel like TF2 deserves my GOTY as it is one of the most SOLID shooters I have played. Sure the main character are the most generic white man in the history of games, but the paceing and the relationship with BT 7274 are really awesome. I really recommend playing through the story, dont go for collectibles or such, just follow along and try out the magnificent level design! Each and every level gives a new way of playing which kept me entertained. The only complain are that the story were too short, they could have added another couple off hours even though that might of messed up the balance of the game.

Then we have the multiplayer! oh this beautiful thing! I normally dont play much multiplayer, especially not FPS game as I am a RPG nerd deep down. But this multiplayer are so well balanced, good maps and I know that I am repeating myself, but just solid! I still play this many evenings each week and enjoy each game as much as the next (might also be because it is a MP Im finally decent at). There are a special feeling of parkour around the levels, shooting enemys, sneaking up behind someone and break their neck as my titan falls down ontop of an enemy titan which explodes in this beautiful cloud of metal and dust. Jumping into my titan to then wreck havock over the map are pure love! Who hasnt always wanted their own mech?

As you can tell I really love this game and I urge everyone that hasnt played it to at least give it a shot. It is one of those games that you can go on about forever, but that you ACTUALLY have to play to understand how solid it actually is.

  • I had a blast playing the beta for Titanfall 2 when that was a thing and probably would have picked it up if it weren't for the horrible release date. I only have the attention and time for a single multiplayer game at a time, and that almost exclusively relies on what my friends are playing. We all got Battlefield 1 and there was just no time for Titanfall. It is a real shame that it was released when it was.

  • I loved the campaign of Titanfall 2, for someone like me who's not a FPS fan, it was such a fun time. Controlling the human character feels so smooth, the wall-running never gets old. And the titan gameplay is pretty deep, I was only beginning to scratch the surface by the end of the campaign.

But not good enough to make my top 5!

  • A really great game that I would like to see higher, but it just shows that so many great games came out in 2016.

  • The first game from my list to appear, I'll keep this post truncated because A.) I feel what's been said and B.) I'm repeating myself from the most recent Community Comments:

While fun, the campaign felt purely average. The characters, except for BT and MAYBE one antagonist were bland, and the length was meh. The time mechanic was awesome, and I wish it was further utilized. Excellent level design and great final mission.

Multiplayer is mulitplayer. Not necessarily bad, as it is tightly designed, just not my cup of tea.
