Kill Your Babies!: Terminate the 1980s!

I'm killing off Leisure Suit Larry - because it's a casually sexist game that treats women as objects. It's actually a remake of an older text based game called Softporn Adventure - which clues you into the intended use of this game as pre-internet spankbank materials. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but it's like putting the Sears catalog lingerie section on this list. So... bye!

Disclaimer: when I was in HS, I did testing for Sierra, and one of the first games I tested was a LSL sequel. :)

I'm jealous... I love Sierra so much.......Hey! how dare you. The first LSL is a masterpiece!

    The Legend of Zelda
    Tetris

    Gradius
    Ys: The Vanished Omens
    Galaga
    Space Harrier

I'm sorry but I honestly feel the series was poor until ALttP. Ys actually impressed me more back in the day.

I didn't have much fun with this game, it's not bad, but it's not great either.

I never "got" this series, but more importantly I can name a half dozen more from the era that had more impact.

It's a super important game, but I suck at it. Like really. I don't think I have ever gotten to the second level.

In the same genre, Gradius is much more advanced and fun, there's just no room for Galaga here.

No one really cared about this game until it's multi-platform release in the 90s. It had little to no impact in the decade it came out in, and ever then, has anyone even heard of this one? Aside from the guy saying to himself, "I did! I put it on this list!"?

Did you know that the original name for Pac-Man was Puck-Man? You'd think it was because he looks like a hockey puck but it actually comes from the Japanese phrase 'Paku-Paku,' which means to flap one's mouth open and closed. They changed it because they thought Puck-Man would be too easy to vandalize, you know, like people could just scratch off the P and turn it into an F or whatever. - Scott Pilgrim

    Fuck-Man is a better game

  • @Sazime I did! I put it on this... :/

Never really liked Dragon Quest and hold the Final Fantasy series in higher regard.

Played it recently in... Yakuza 0. Gameplay-wise, it's inferior to Star Fox, and the art direction is all over the place. Hasn't aged well, to put it nicely.

Im not sure I want to kill any more of this list haha! Its a list with all solid games! should we just leave it and call this win? xD

  • @Lotias There can be only one.

    Tetris
    Double Dragon
    River City Ransom
    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
    Elite
    Double Dragon II: The Revenge
    Golden Axe
    Bionic Commando
    Mega Man 2
    Phantasy Star
    Star Wars (1983)
    Dig Dug
    Gradius

I'd play RCR over this any day.

    Star Wars (1983)
    Dig Dug
    Gradius

I feel like Gradius and Dig Dug are the low hanging fruit of games I have no personal attachment to at this point.

I love me some low hanging fruit, it's so delicious and easy to reach! I think Gradius is the better game, so it lives for now.

I'm sorry, but I don't even know what this is. I'm sure it had some impact on some people, but I don't know who. Certainly not me.

  • Damn. Kids these days...

  • @TokyoSlim Kid, eh? 36 still count as a kid these days? :D

  • @TokyoSlim You're not wrong. I was born in '97 and the only one of the remaining games I've played is Tetris

  • Tetris
    River City Ransom
    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
    Double Dragon II: The Revenge
    Golden Axe
    Bionic Commando
    Mega Man 2
    Phantasy Star

Sorry. It's just the only one left that I don't have fond memories of.

Too many beat 'em ups, killing the one I have no emotional attachment to and an ugly art direction (seems to be a theme with Sega games from that era).
