"Super violent", "Dark, satirical", "written by Warren Ellis (Marvel, DC, Dead Space)"...
I like what I'm reading! And look at this concept art!
This could be one of the greats.
-
now all konami has to do is sell the ip to from software just kidding.
ill keep a eye out for this but sadly i think itll be american netflix only.
-
That concept art is old, like really old.
Also I'm not very hopeful for this.
-
Warren eff'n Ellis. Hype.
-
If it even comes close to matching the concept art ill check it out, although I do hope it turns out good.
-
Just too bad that I don't use Netflix haha

Isn't Frederator the company that made Ed Edd and Eddy?
-
I didn't realize Frederator was working on this... I'm actually nervous now. I absolutely love the studio but their Film branch formed in 2007 and they have NEVER produced anything. Their original goal was to make 2 films a year. Frederator Films, for whatever reason, has never completed a project. On the series side, their shows have been coming out agonizingly slowly but some of that is because they do a lot of web series which are difficult to fund. They also mostly do super goofy/cartoony work, I don't think they've ever done anything dark or realistic. From what I can tell Project 51 is new, so neither has a track record to look at. Hopefully since Netflix is involved things will go well!

This is very much Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones
The series is going to be R-rated as f***
America's first animated series for adults
Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Young Justice were among the series inspiring the Castlevania series' art designOf course, this is all hype talk, but I like the direction in which they seem to be going!

Already off to a bad start. Castlevania was a tribute to horror and had a distinct gothic horror look and feel to it. Making it some gritty low-fantasy series about assholes doesn't sound like Castlevania.
Don't get me wrong, I like A Song of Ice and Fire, but it's not Castlevania. The series is going to be R-rated as f***
Castlevania was never about the blood and gore. Or do they mean they will throw a bunch of tits out way? But R-rated is a good sign I guess.
America's first animated series for adults
Not true.
Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Young Justice were among the series inspiring the Castlevania series' art design
These 3 things together confuse me.
-
Akira and GitS i can kinda understand, but Young Justice?
-
@suplextrain Come on, sounds like you're just looking for things to nitpick about.
I think the reference to Game of Thrones only means it will be mature, with a complex story and characters. Not that it will literally have the exact same style and tone. The R rating and saying it's for adults reinforces that. It doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna be all about gore and blood and sex, although some of that can be expected.
Again, I'm not saying all of this should be taken at face value, but it is encouraging. I prefer to hear that than "it'll be jolly, cheesy and childish".
That Young Justice reference confuses me too though.
-
So Julius Belmont will be the lead character, which if remember right he was born in 1989.
-
I can't wait

Beyond the name "Castlevania" I see no reason to be excited for it. Especially with current day Konami. I'm not gonna disregard it if it ends up being good, but my hype level is zero. I mean if that was "official" art for the show in the OP then they re-used art from that old movie project.

You can make a lot of assumptions based of the Game of Thrones comment. To me it just feels like they namedrop GoT just to try and get people excited for their show, like "Oh so it's like Game of Thrones? I love that show!".
How about saying something along the lines of "It's gonna be like the Castlevania you know and love" instead? Obviously because they're only rehashing the IP to make money, not make something for fans of Castlevania.
Maybe I'm sounding a bit cynical here, but this is Konami we're talking about.

Official poster baby!

@Axel looks good!! 👍

I like Adi Shankar and Warren Ellis. I'm cautiously optimistic.
