DualShock on pc help
-
I have ds4 windows and 'always played that way on my PC. 2 days ago my laptop stopped reading my controller and just says" usb device malfunctioning " any tips?
-
Plug it into a seperate USB port.
or
Uninstall the drivers.
or
Think back on what you did to your computer around the time it stopped working and undo it.Difficult to give you an exact solution without more info or having the computer in front of you.

I just closed the top like always so i didnt change anything, i changed usb's now my computer wont even reconize anything plugged in because i borrowed a xbone controller to use
-
does your pc recognize other controllers? if so, it may be a driver issue, or Dualshock issue.
you could try a restore point, see if rolling back fixes it.
another option is to try Steam's integrated Dualshock support. even if it's a non-Steam game, you can add it to your Steam library and it should work. the controller/Dualshock support can be accessed via Steam's Big Picture mode. give it a shot if you haven't. :)

@aer0blue it dosnt recognize anything now earlier it would say "device malfunctioning " when i would plug in any controller now i dont get any response.
-
do other USB devices work? if not, it may be the PC itself, perhaps faulty USB slots.
if other devices work fine, you could try using another cable for the DS4, see if that changes anything.

Definitely want to second the idea of uninstalling the USB drivers and attempting to re-install. Your compy should be able to scan online for them without your intervention or there's a handy program called Slim Drivers (with a free version) that will help you track down the appropriate drivers.
I recently purchased a cheap PC with the old OS wiped clean so I had a bunch of problems getting the ethernet adapter to work, Slim Drivers fixed it right up. My other recommendation is patting your tower, telling your PC it's good, maybe that will encourage it.

@FF7Cloud http://www.pcworld.com/article/2089404/how-to-easily-find-drivers-for-unknown-devices-in-windows.html
That should help you locate them, although they may not actually say there's a problem. There should be an option to check for an update or an option to uninstall them so you can just start from scratch. Easier way would be going through the program I mentioned as it lets you know what drivers are out of date, so you'd just want to look for something talking about your USB ports and update that.

pluged in a dual shock 3 for shits and giggles and my computer recognizes it as does steam but how do i use it
-
@FF7Cloud Haven't used a DS3 on PC, but it looks as though it takes some configuring.
Or this guide that is randomly in an Awesomenauts thread (a game I love) gives another method.

Personally, I'd take the time into getting the DS4 to work because I like the feel of it more, but that's just me.

@robert7lee installed a program called SCP and force the program to install drivers, now the computer thinks its a 360 controller so its actually better then what ds4 windows could do.
-
@FF7Cloud Cool, used to use the same thing, now using input mapper, does the same thing. Even though I never owned an XBox console I'm more familiar with its controller input. So X will always be A now. Used to mess up on QTE all the time.
Good luck with it.

@robert7lee gonna take me a bit to get used to xbox button scheme but i dont game much on pc so i think ill be alright.
