@FF7Cloud http://www.pcworld.com/article/2089404/how-to-easily-find-drivers-for-unknown-devices-in-windows.html
That should help you locate them, although they may not actually say there's a problem. There should be an option to check for an update or an option to uninstall them so you can just start from scratch. Easier way would be going through the program I mentioned as it lets you know what drivers are out of date, so you'd just want to look for something talking about your USB ports and update that.

pluged in a dual shock 3 for shits and giggles and my computer recognizes it as does steam but how do i use it

@FF7Cloud Haven't used a DS3 on PC, but it looks as though it takes some configuring.
Or this guide that is randomly in an Awesomenauts thread (a game I love) gives another method.

Personally, I'd take the time into getting the DS4 to work because I like the feel of it more, but that's just me.

@robert7lee installed a program called SCP and force the program to install drivers, now the computer thinks its a 360 controller so its actually better then what ds4 windows could do.

@FF7Cloud Cool, used to use the same thing, now using input mapper, does the same thing. Even though I never owned an XBox console I'm more familiar with its controller input. So X will always be A now. Used to mess up on QTE all the time.
Good luck with it.
