Open World JRPGs
-
I like me a big ass open world every now and then, but I don't usually like the western aesthetics as much as I like the Japanese style. So what are your recommendations in the admirably very narrow field of open world JRPGs?

Xenoblade Chronicles X is as open world as you can possibly get. Something Brandon always talks up in open worlds is seeing something cool in the distance and wanting to go there, this game has an abundance of mysterious structures, alien geography and landmarks that will draw your attention.

Yeah, definitely Xenoblade Chronicles X. Heck, even the original Xenoblade has a vast open world. But XCX is just something else with how large that world is.
-
Depends on your definition of open world, I feel most Jrpgs are open world.
but I get the feeling you mean open world like Fallout or the Elder Scrolls in which case it almost ceases to a jrpg at that point.

Rogue Galaxy is kinda sorta open world, not one of the all time great RPG's but pretty solid.
-
@Vexchaneu Open World, in my mind is, when you can travel around the map more or less freely and choose what you want to do, rather than having to stick to a set path.
Xenoblade btw is the only true one I could think of as well. Other than that maybe some of the Y's games.

It's not 100% open world but I highly recommend trying Steambot Chronicles, I think it really got it right and wasnt just an empty boring map

Final Fantasy 12

@suplextrain I wouldn't say it's Open world game, but it is definitely more open ended than most games in the franchise, not counting MMO's
-
Way of the samurai games might suit your tastes if you can dig the rpg aspects of the game as well

@jipostus Honestly, I never felt that FF12 is particularly an Open World game either. It feels more like an MMO with the combat system etc. but it wasn't that open. Not more so than 7 for example.
