    Yeah, killed GTA V cause I just didn't get into it. Sure I can see it as a quality game, but it's not one I enjoy.

    Twilight Princess is also a piece of art. Ideas like the magnetism of the iron boots came before both Super Mario Galaxy and Gravity Rush, the dungeons each feature an incredible progression to them, the story and even facial animation are incredible especially for a game release in 2006, and this game knows how to end far better than any other I've played to this day.

    All games are art, but not all art is good art. I general can't enjoy games that are a chore to play, and Dark Souls is that and more. I love melee action games, but Dark Souls is intrinsically grindy and time-wasting. You may be killed and be filled with righteous anger and determination to jump right back into the fray. I am not that person. Obscene difficulty just makes me want to stop playing, and I have no indication that the game every gets any more interesting than pulling mobs, leveling up, and fighting bosses that do not give players anywhere near enough of a chance to learn their mechanics before smashing them with unbalanced damage. And on top of that hitting something feels like bashing empty metal baskets with a stick more than it ever does stabbing people in a satisfying manner. The game that does teach players attack animations and feature satisfying melee attacks is Monster Hunter, but — because OP is a westerner — that game is not on this list. So I spit on Dark Souls' grave in its name.

    If my notes are somewhat correct I've beaten a little just under 200 games in my life, the Uncharted games are easily near the bottom, even U2 being the best of the ones I've played.

  • @Haru17 First, EXCELLENT post. I love long reasons the most because they provide the best thoughts for kills.

    Second, just because I'm from the west does not mean Monster Hunter is not on the list, but it's all good! The community as a whole did not like Monster Hunter enough for a single entry to crack the top 100 in voting (Though it does make me wonder how low it did place). A lot of people's favorites didn't make it. I wish, for example, Resistance or Gauntlet: Dark Legacy made it, but I LOVE that list to death. Hell, even in this very thread, a couple of my favorites have been axed in favor of games I care nothing for. Never have held a grudge from these and I really respect 100% respect every reason killed while I disagree with about 50% of them.

    And thanks for your comment on the shield rule! I really liked it in the Easy Update episode, and I wanted, at least once, to try find a way to implement it.

    MGSV was one of the biggest videogame disappointments I have ever experienced. Gameplay is great, music is great...story was dreadful.

    I'm saving Shenmue, since it's my favourite game of all time. Also thanks to the person who save Mass Effect 3!

  • @Haru17 Oh, wow, if you weren't aware of the thread, go to the Hall of Fame sub forum and check it out if you like. Granted, while it's still a wonderful thread, it doesn't have as much of an impact as when it was going on. It's near 1000 posts, so I don't recommend reading the WHOLE thing (unless you're a glutton for punishment), but being there, with everyone having anticipation, and discussing each entry as it was revealed is probably a top 5 highlight for me in year one of EZA. I know there is at least ONE game (Legend of Zelda: TP) you like there, but you can click the links and read the discussion after them to give you a sense of people sharing. It kind of bums me out that you missed it.

    Yay, the shield has finally come into play.

    Saving Final Fantasy Tactics because it's one of my favorites and definitely a "comfort" game that I can hop into at any time.

    Yep, I'll take out the community voted "best" game of all time. I really don't feel like Ocarina has aged gracefully and has all sorts of issues. Nostalgia props this game up way more than it deserves. Better Zelda games on the list as well so... bye-bye!

    Ive tried to get into Baulder’s Gate II a few times and I just cant. Maybe I needed to play it back in the day to really enjoy it.

    Saving MGS because it was one of a few games i played when i first got my PS that made me truly love gaming. It wasnt that i didnt enjoy gaming before this, but this game offered so much more depth and emotion to games at the time that i had never seen before.

    You could say this is a vendetta. I only ever tried the first Dark Souls. Maybe the animations have improved since then, maybe not, but I feel watching enough aggressively pro-Souls, anti-The Last of Us Man Ups episodes gives me plenty of cause to kill Bloodborne.

    I'm saving Skyrim because it's my second favorite game and I know this community is just hipster enough to kill it like Halo and Uncharted. Few games have a language like Bethesda games, and even fewer allow that to be a positive. It didn't feel like spoilers that a Nordic ruin would likely have some bloody notes about adventurers who were enthralled by the pervasive mind-altering magic of the ancient dragon cult members there and eventually succumbed to starvation or attack. I think Skyrim especially does some masterful environmental storytelling over a map so much larger than Life is Strange, Gone Home, and other similar 'look around a person's room' narrative attempt. It isn't just audio recordings either, you can trace a person's steps through any given dungeon and back out of it again, and that is really neat.

    Obviously the melee combat isn't the best, but it's a first-person game and no open world game besides Breath of the Wild has actively good melee combat. And I haven't seen an action RPG with a more varied and satisfying progression than Skyrim's. Skyrim is a flawed game, because the nature of an open world game is that you can always add more. However, I still think Bethesda's world design stands head and shoulders above any of the open world efforts this generation, differentiating itself by focusing on the immersive and narrative strengths of the genre.
