Far Cry 5 (PC/PS4/XB1)

  • @Black-Cell Wild west comes next year with RDR2.

  • Really impressed by it, that trailer was fucking amazing too, literally R* level for me.

Makes a nice change that we get to kill some White religious nutters for a change too, custom-characters means I can make a bad-ass female character to slaughter the fools, 2-player co-op sounds good too, hope it's matchmaking-enabled and drop-in/drop-out though.

Love seeing all the right-wing types getting angry with it already too, very funny.

  • Far Cry 5 delayed till March 27

Just a small delay for Far Cry. After the initial buzz and getting my hands on it at EGX, I'm not really thinking too much about this game. Maybe I've hit fatigue with the series.

My problem is that they're still basically just rehashing FC3. There is nothing particularly inspired or interesting in FC5. The setting is also boring as hell. As of this point in time I'm most likely not getting FC5.

  • A good review and some great editing by Brandon. Nicely done.

I'm not hungry for some Far Cry action right now, but it's good to know that there's a solid game waiting when the time eventually hits for me.

  • I have no interest in this game, but Brandon's review was fantastic. First time in a while I've noticed the quality of the writing in a review (not that EZA reviews are ever poorly written, just that this one had lines that really jumped out at me without seeming forced). Also the opening montage is stellar.

  • My BF is super excited for this, and I'm excited to watch him play it.
He's a fan of these sandbox explosion games but he's been super excited for this since seeing Cheeseburger. I'm thrilled to see that review confirm that he'll love it.

  • will grab it on cheap sale. FC games are ok but become very boring towards the end.

and this basically feel like another rehash of far cry 3.

  • Started it out this evening, I'm having a lot of fun so far! I only played 3 back in the day and loved it, skipped 4 and Primal, so I'm ready for this!

  • Has anyone given Arcade mode a real shot? I won't be buying this at full price (got some budget constraints, nothing against the game) but it looks like that mode could be something special.

  • @sabotagethetruth It's not super great right now, but there's some great potential there. It's also pretty great that playing in arcade gives you money and perks for the main game.
It should be pretty good down the line.

  • Been playing it a hour or two at a time between jobs, really enjoying it so far, should hopefully get a chance to do some coop this weekend.

Sidenote really enjoy the music in some parts.

  • I really want to play this, but frickin' newborns be all like "hey spend all your time and money and attention on me".
Better calm that shit down by the time God of War comes out is all I'm say'n.

@el-shmiablo Lol but congrats dude! Might have a future ally right there? ;)

Im really going forth and back with this game. I want to get it but there are so much stuff in it which also puts me off. Im kinda in a fatigue of open world games at the moment and I fear that if I pick this up I will end up playing maybe 10 hours then drop it to never be played again.

    Also, this is awesome

  • I'm actually playing through FC4 right now since I picked it up for suuuper cheap but never gave it a fair shake.

Really enjoying it, and slightly satiating my desire to spend money I don't have on 5.

  • @lotias
Was kinda fearing the same thing, but just enough is done differently with its open world structure that it's rather refreshing. Hell one thing I've noticed myself is that I'm not fast traveling to places just to get to the next mission. I'll take the long way, and usually find 6 or 7 things along the way.

  • Really enjoying my time with it so far!

One gripe I have is the frequency of "emergent" encounters that keep popping up. You can't walk 5 meters without some sort of mini event to spawn, a guy to kill, a truck to loot, a wild animal to attack you... It never, ever stops. There are times when I will kill some dudes and not even have time to loot their bodies before another group shows up!

To make matters even worse, because of that constant spawning, the game also seems to unspawn older encounters to free up memory, which means I've shot a truck, got intercepted on my way to loot it by spawned cultists, dealt with them, tried to go loot them, got intercepted by others, killed them, then turned around to find the truck had disappeared, all in a span of 30 seconds. Soooooo that's unpleasant, would be nice if they refined the pacing a bit in a patch.

But overall it's still a very fun, goofy and relaxing experience. I just triggered my first main story sequence (I think), so I'll have more thoughts about that later.

  • Apparently PS4 Pro comes with Far Cry 5 without any additional cost. So which game should I get when I trade Far Cry 5 in: Shadow of the Colossus or Ni No Kuni II?

  • @pat It is not bashing Christians thankfully. You have the good priest and there are even missions where you protect memorials from the cultists - and that’s what extremists do, is to instrumentalise religion for their own agenda. Happy Easter brother!
