Lost Sphear (PC/PS4/NS, 23rd January)
-
The characters so far are completely forgettable.
HA! Get it?
But seriously. The character designs look like something out of an indie rpg that you'd download on Steam for $5.
-
why would they show this now and not at e3
-
@FF7Cloud Because its not a megaton. Get the small stuff out of the way. Usually happens every year.
-
Looks fantastic, still haven't got round to playing I am Setsuna but have pre-ordered the physical version of this on the Squeenix EU store, I'm sold.
-
This looks like a $50 mobile game lacking an interesting combat system, plot, over the shoulder camera, voice acting, and any ambition at all. All those games and this is what Square Enix decides to port to Switch. Not good enough.
-
@DisturbedSwan I would play Setsuna first before pre-ordering this. I have less interest in this because of their first game. But thats just my opinion.
-
Looks like January should be pretty good for JRPG fans with Ni No Kuni 2 and now, Lost Sphear releasing that month.
-
@tokeeffe9 so switch gets it early? its still listed at Q4 2017 for switch
-
Hmmm, I imagine that needs to be updated. It's be very odd if Sony announced a release date first and then Nintendo announce an earlier date. Usually it's the other way around. We'll see I guess.
-
This really really looks like a generic RPG. Nothing really stands out about it. I'll probably still give it a try though.
-
Yeahhhh .... I checked out more of the stuff they showed, still see nothing grabbing my attention.
-
@glitch i think thats the whole point of the studio. to make games like the did in the early to mid 90's
-
@FF7Cloud who's calling 90's RPG's generic!? Lol.
I know they're trying to create the golden age of RPG's and all, but they're not even close. I hope they get there eventually.

According to the EU PlayStation Blog, there's a demo coming on December 7th. I'll try to give it a whirl!

I think a demo is needed to sell people on the game. From a visual standpoint it's not very impressive, I am Setsuna already rode the classic RPG hype (I don't think LS has the same level of hype) and people question what, if anything, is even improved from I am Setsuna. To top it all off it comes out around the time of Ni No Kuni 2, Monster Hunter World and the Secret of Mana remake.
-
Yeah for sure, and Octopath Traveler looks a lot better, in the same retro style. I'm afraid Lost Sphear will get lost in the shuffle, especially since they haven't really shown what makes it unique.
-
The demo is out on Switch too.
-
Played the demo, didn't even finish it there's no way I'm playing through a whole game with this combat.

Gotta agree with you there. The demo was very boring and felt uninspired. Maybe it's because we don't have the full context being dropped in the middle of a story portion, but it was quite boring. I'm gonna pass on this one. I'm beginning to think Tokyo RPG Factory simply would be able to live up to people's expectations.

The demo underwhelmed me. I can't find the right word for it, but it feels like they're overreaching. Trying to be too ambitious with the limited resources and talent that they have to the point where everything feels sloppy or unpolished.
Like they want to do this epic story with an elaborate combat system (with mech suits), an overworld, the restoration mechanic, etc. but all of it feels underbaked. They should've reined it in a bit and focused it more on just a few things.
The presentation was also a bit meh with the most basic UI design, characters fading in and out of conversations (while moving around), etc.I get the feeling that this will underperform in terms of sales.
