That's News!

  • @CGamor7
Damn, although can't say I'm that surprised given how ban happy the site was against anyone with a different opinion.

Wonder which place will take its place as "The Spot" for leaks and what not.

  • @DMCMaster I'm not sure the details, but if he's the owner and is found guilty he would probably be best off selling the site to a potential buyer. That place has value still. But again I'm not sure what the ownership details of that site looks like and how that would work. It would be a waste for it to disappear since there was value there. New blood might make it a more welcoming place too.

  • I'm very iffy on the details on this not really having read a lot on it and only seeing the occasional neogaf thread while looking random subjects, but I'm not really clear on why the site has gone down because of a scandal of it's founder.

Is it in protest to him? to stop him from making a profit?, it just kinda seems weird to me that this would result in a fairly popular site shutting down.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious but my understanding of the events doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

  • @bard91 Yeah most of the staff left in protest to signal their virtues, at the end they had like 1 admin and no mods, and without the thought police banning people everyone left could finally speak openly, it was quite glorious from what I've seen.

  • Here's an updated article from Kotaku about NeoGaf. More info then I've seem elsewhere.

If ppl want to discuss this in more detail feel free make a thread.

  • @Torigasa-Reta This seems to be quite a one-sided way of looking at things. I'd imagine most of the mods felt uncomfortable being associated with EvilLore and needed to distance themselves immediately. Referring to it as virtue signalling is a little...dismissive?

  • So on a not very exciting livestream the Atlus Switch game has been confirmed to be SMTV, no further details other than a teaser which looks appropriately dark

  • Nintendo Everything - Animal Crossing Direct announced for Wednesday in Japan, mobile game to be revealed

  • @bard91 Ah, the return of the fabled nondescript shadow NPCs. It could be meaningless, but the original SMT 5 trailer had the Unreal 4 logo while the new one switched to the generic Unreal Engine one.

Anyway, do the mainline SMT games feature worthy narrative attempts like the Persona series? Cause otherwise they'd just be turn-based dungeon crawlers, and the combat has alway been the least interesting part of Persona sooo...

  • @Haru17 I'm not super experienced with SMT tbh having only beaten Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga 1 and I guess Tokyo Mirage Sessions but I don't really count that as SMT, and some time with Devil Survivor as well.

In my mind they all have interesting plots though I would say narratively I have never been as engrossed by one of these as much as I have with the Persona games, and that overall they are not as interesting in that aspect.

  • @tokeeffe9 FINALLY! I'm hoping this is as surprisingly good as Fire Emblem Heroes is.

Also hopefully they'll give us a tease or something for the Switch game.

Sweet! This one has been a long time coming, the delay makes me suspect this will have a bigger scope than previous mobile games by Nintendo. Hopefully something that can really help pass the time until AC Switch!

  • GT Sport has gone to the top of the UK charts, apparently selling 3x more physical copies than Forza 7 - No actual numbers given.

"Data from Chart-Track reveals Gran Turismo Sport, the first in Sony's long-running racing sim series to launch on PlayStation 4, had better week one unit sales than both the original Gran Turismo, which launched on PS1 back in 1998, and the last version, Gran Turismo 6, which launched on PS3 back in 2013."

Interesting to see GT still sell well, even with some of the controversy around it. Owning the game myself though, I can say it's really good, if you can get past the big changes.

  • @Yautja_Warrior That is interesting. I'm very curious where the GT series is at right now. It's always a little more difficult to judge since most of the online gamers don't seem to be too interested in racing games.

  • @tokeeffe9
After playing GT Sport myself for a few hours, I can't help but get the feeling like its being used as a testing ground for GT7,

  • @DMCMaster If it proves to be popular, now it's being positioned as an online service, with the current plan to add more cars and tracks, it wouldn't surprise me if they added in more features over time, like a career mode (hopefully)

If they can't hold the audience, then this will still be a good foundation for the next GT game though.

  • @thenerdtheword The article and JPN site said it's literally just the Animal Crossing phone game. No 3DS, Switch, or other app news. If it were about a full game they would make English and other language versions of the Direct instead of just subbing the Japanese one.

Though I guess that technically doesn't rule out Animal Crossing for Wii U, lol.

@bard91 Well, I guess it's good there's at least some attempt. After all, Persona is pretty high narrative bar for what typically comes out of this industry. I really just wish they would release P4 Golden or something like that on Switch. Atlus JRPGs just seem like the absolute perfect games for a handheld hybrid, even more so than Monster Hunter since Capcom has the means to crank up the graphics on dedicated consoles.

It's frustrating Atlus have whatever nebulous exclusive agreement they do with Sony that in effect forces people who own a Switch and PS4 to play the less convenient version. I mean, Persona games are a huge amount of work and creativity and totally worth a port. I guess we'll just have to see what SMT 5 shapes up to be. Hopefully it has a similar level of ambition.

  • @Yautja_Warrior. Yup, everything is really great except the lack of single player offline content. I'd say that the core gameplay is so great that they basically just needs to add a career mode and more cars and they can sell the same game as GT7. I'd buy it day one.

But as it stands there is very little to do for someone like me who isn't subscribing to PS+. As a long time fan it was definitely difficult to see all the facts get unveiled, I skipped GT6 since it came after PS4 so I've waited a long time for a new GT and when it finally comes it's not made for me. :(

  • @jaggafredde
Looking back im a bit surprised they never ported GT6 to PS4, sure it would have been a re-release but it would have been something to help tide GT fans while waiting on what would become Sport, which is stranger as I think they said (just before the PS4 came out I think) that they had the game up and running on PS4

  • @DMCMaster I imagine they didn't want to get in the way of Driveclub.
