Can we get a "random" thread or something so people can post things that aren't news there?
-
@el-shmiablo We have that already! It's the That's Not News thread. I feel like we should pin that thread or something, just to help remind people that it's there.
-
@yoshi That is one chill and awesome vid! would you mind putting it in the "that's not news" thread please? Just think it would suit better there! :D
-
@bam541 And move it to the gaming section!
-
@lotias no probs
i wasn't really sure where it should go.

First look at Tom Holland as young Nathan Drake. Kinda surprised Nolan and Tom met too.

My expectations are so low that they are either going to be affirmed or I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I can't help but let my mind wander towards how awesome a good Uncharted movie could be.
Like, if the screenwriter and director have any sense of the history here, the franchise has gone full circle. Uncharted was inspired by 80s adventure romps and now they have an opportunity to make an adventure romp of their own.
I somehow expect the studio mandate is to make it more in-line with the Assassin's Creed's and Tomb Raider films of the world, but imagine if like Michael Douglass and Danny DeVito cameoed somewhere in here?
I hope somewhere throughout the film, the tone isn't too serious and they just let it play like an old romantic action-adventure romp.

Adding onto my last post - this seems kinda reassuring actually. Marky Mark saying it has an old school feel to it gives me excitement. I'm less excited about "origin story" but how else are they going to introduce the world to Uncharted? I guess Elena and the others won't be in the movie if Drake is so young.
Mark Wahlberg Says 'Uncharted' Movie is Like 'Indiana Jones' & 'Thomas Crown Affair'
Youtube VideoI just saw on Wikipedia that Antonio Banderas is attached in a role too (I somehow suspect a villain). Is it bad that I'm skipping over cautiously optimistic and teetering towards excited? I LOVE Antonio Banderas!

Tom's looking pretty good, but honestly as a huge Uncharted fan I still personally don't really care about the movie (unless the trailer is absolutely mind-blowing). I just hope that the movie is successful enough (and by extension, good enough) to actually grow the fanbase of the franchise even more. The numbers on the tweets seems to point that way.
Also, I hope the movie people consulted with Amy Hennig as well.
-
@dmcmaster I think this is really cool, but it seems a little weird to not just release the game on the NES collection for free because it would already have save states and rewind. Then they could on top of that also re-release the 3DS remake to purchase for like $20. Maybe that's just me.
-
I heard Tom and Druckmann connected on a personal level, but knowing the history of the series and how Sony Pictures was desperately looking for any trustworthy director let alone the ideal one, I bet Naughty Dog / PlayStation were very hands off.
I bet she'll get some sort of on-screen credit like "Created by Amy Henning"

@dipset I remember Neil calling out someone from the movie team for saying that they got ND's approval on something when they really don't (which shows the hands off ness of this whole thing), but that was a while ago. At least with Tom on board, things seem more friendly.

@happygaming i'm getting the collectors edition. just pre-ordered it.
i want that artwork.
-
@yoshi I'm not saying that collector's edition doesn't have merit, it's awesome! But from a different perspective it's just difficult for me to justify why it should be purchased over its remake as a celebration of the anniversary.
Not that I'd boycott either. It's not a bad price, especially for a translation and extras. I just question the marketing and strategy of the product versus what it could have been.
-
@yoshi maybe someday. At least I hope. There have been rumors for like the last fifteen months on and off for a Trilogy release on Switch, but I always feel like I just need to hold onto my carts given how Nintendo treats newcomers and releasing the franchise in general...

@happygaming i don't see the English Fire Emblem disappearing forever just like i don't see 3D all stars disappearing forever
what Nintendos doing is very anti consumer by making the digital game available for a limited time only. but from a business perspective it makes sense. Nintendo obviously just wants to resell these old games later on, most likely through stuff like the Switch Online service how they already tie NES and SNES games to your online subscription
