I think Smash might have some competition for character reveal trailers

@dmcmaster Got a bit tooooo whacky a ways in, but it was definitely enjoyable, and I hope they make more of these. I don't really care about the game and am not expecting it to turn out all that good, but these I can appreciate.

I'm still convinced that we will eventually have a good 3D Sonic but this isn't it. Movement looks like a student's first kick at the can in Unity or something. Visually, it just looks so bland. Reminds me of Pokemon Arceus in it's effortless generic assets and art direction but with slightly more high-res fidelity.
Can anyone other than Sonic Team make a Sonic game at this point. Or lean into Sonic Mania again?

I think Sonic Frontiers looks really good but it's still a Sonic game...

"Over time, he seemed to bend the direction of his game and its concept to retrofit what fans were saying. When they thought it was Silent Hill, he released a brief teaser in the game's strange, almost featureless standalone app on PS5 that included music very much like that of Silent Hill's longtime composer Akira Yamaoka. When the fans thought he was teasing a Metal Gear Solid project, he reworked the horror story centered on a cult to instead focus on a fourth-wall-breaking AI program and secret government cover-ups."
"Those with knowledge of the group have described Kahraman as duplicitous and prone to mood swings, often getting into heated arguments when members of the group would ask for progress updates or question his honesty. He'd then profusely apologize later, sometimes attributing his outbursts to the stress he was under due to the wave of fan theories."

It sounds like a venture capitalist (perhaps mommy/daddy rich) discovered that making video games isn't as easy as it looks. Hell, even Curt Schilling made an honest effort in his World of Warcraft MMO competitor back when he opened up his studio. It ain't easy for anybody let alone somebody just in it half heartedly.
Now, neither Sony nor Keighley are to blame for Abandoned's over-hyped marketing and non-existent development (I love the article pointing out that Kahraman basically plays R6 Siege all day and night like a bum). However, I think there is a conversation to be had about the accessibility of game development nowadays.
Anybody can hop into UE5/Unity in 2022 and make a trailer of high-res assets (in this case, the joke was "Wallbandoned" because of all the CU shots of walls) and pay a composer to knock off the Silent Hill score or any other video game music. We might be entering an era of newfound caution when presenting new games in Direct's, State of Plays, Game Fest's, etc. Again, if anybody can whip up a trailer then maybe more vetting is necessary before giving them a platform.

The name "Sonic Central" from our recent news show is a reference to the old North American site from the mid 2000s!
This is the second presentation however. Here's a reminder of what was shown during the first:
