The EZA Community Top 20 Best of 2015!

  • im playing life is strange right now just finished episode 2

  • Wow, that's some wide spread love!

  • Never got around to play Life is Strange... I know I missed out on it, Hard, but perhaps one day.

Also, I just now realized, that none of my games have showed up, so I'm fairly certain that only 2 or 3 of them show up on this list. We'll see.

  • Nice, that's a good amount of love for that game. Max and Chloe were great characters, really liked their dialogue and thoughts. This game made me feel so many emotions, great, great episodes. (And way longer than in Telltale games, which was a surprise. I liked it a lot.)

  • This was a tough one for me. While all very different in theme and how they play, I bundled Life Is Strange with Until Dawn and Soma. Mostly because I feel like they are more so narrative based games.

We already know I put Soma into my top 5 however I did really like Life is Strange. I adore the soundtrack, both composed and licensed. I'm always a fan of a relatively minimal artstyle.

I like most of the story. The game does have some parts where it falls down a bit and it's not the best written material I've ever seen but for the most part I think it handles it's themes and characters really well.

My biggest issue with the game is more of a personal thing really. I'm not huge on multiple endings, usually because there is a clear 'canon' ending and the other is just sci-fi nitpicky stuff. But I think Life is Strange is great for the most part, absolutely worth playing and I'm glad to see it so high.

  • I'm not a fan of the episodic format of games, so I passed on Life is Strange. However, I find the current state of the series to be fascinating, especially where Ashley Burch could not reprise her VA work, yet can still contribute by writing the story. Life is Strange, to me, feels like a game that came out of nowhere and now is widely regarded as a great game.

We've now arrived at the top five! I can think of three sure fire locks, but I'm curious what the other two will be. With that said, here's how I predict the unveil will be:

    5.) Undertale
4.) Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
    3.) Rocket League
2.) The Witcher III: Wild Hunt
    1.) Bloodborne

  • @Brannox

    Spoiler Rainbow Six Seige

    But

Probably not (your list sounds more plausible)

  • Despite its flaws I still really enjoyed Life is Strange. It combined a lot of themes I enjoy. I love the characters a lot and the story is pretty good but I was a bit disappointed in the end because much like Until Dawn the promise of your choices mattering is mostly illusory by the time you reach the finale. The game definitely has technical difficulties, especially in chapter 5. I got a scene where Max's mouth just stopped moving completely. Still, the game got my #3 spot so I think that says a lot.

Also, I want to note that I played Life is Strange this year alongside some games with similar through lines, Night in the Woods and Oxenfree. Life is Strange is definitely the weakest of the three, in my opinion, so if you really enjoyed Life is Strange you should prioritize putting those two games on your list!

  • @Brannox If those games indeed end up in the top 5 then all of my picks will have made this years list.

  • I am still playing Life Is Strange, so its place on my personal list may change. Endings are important to me.

  • @CGamor7 Well the three that are sure fires of course I placed in the top three slots, but I debated about Undertale and MGSV. I decided on those over CoD: BlOps III, Battlefront, R6 Siege, and Dying Light.

  • I'm starting to fear nobody else thought about Tales from the Borderlands. My favourite Telltale game ever.

  • @Brannox I would be okay with your top 5, for a few reasons. Only time will tell!

  • 2 games that seem to have started a trend for me, I played and enjoyed both Fallout 4 and Xenoblade X at 1st, for many hours (more than 20), but eventually I just got sick of both. This is something I have again experienced recemtly with Horizon Zero Dawn, it also happens from one day to the other usually, the one day I'm still playing it and then the next day my interest is completely gone and doesn't comes back. Oh well.

EDIT: No actually there was a game before those 2 that did the same thing to me, Dragon Age: Origins.

  • @Jigoku-no-Musou that describes all bethesda open world games for me lol except oblivion thats games a masterpiece

  • @FF7Cloud Oblivion is great. Also, that game is pretty much at the same time textbook example how to do DLC wrong (Horse Armor), and how to do it right (Shivering Isles).

Though, back on topic, I'm fairly certain that Axiom Verge won't show up, which makes me sad.

  • I figured it was a long shot, but I was hoping our EZA MH community would rally and give Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate some love, since it's (arguably) the series' best entry. Hopefully MH: World will bring in some new players.

  • @Billy I know I'm hopping into the franchise for the first time when Worlds comes out, so there's at least one new player!

  • @FF7Cloud I loved Oblivion and also Fallout 3, spent many many hours with both and beat them.
I was thinking of also adding Skyrim to the list of those games but I didn't really enjoy Skyrim and stopped pretty early on.

  • @Billy I'm not completely convinced about MH World yet, but I do have to admit it has made me considered jumping into MH more than any time in past, I think it could go either way right now, but I if I see more stuff I like with it I may just jump in.
