    Sentinel Beach (Jak & Daxter)
Hyrule Field: Upper Eldin (TLoZ: Twilight Princess)
    The Citadel (Mass Effect)

Because it has all my favourite shops.
And I love the design of it.

The way Toby Fox built up to this moment and the way the music kicks in almost brought me to tears the first time I played it. Really brought things together in a great "Show Don't Tell" kind of way.

    The Citadel (Mass Effect)
    Asgore's lair (Undertale)
    Nate and Elena's house (Uncharted 4: A Thief's End)

Environmental storytelling is a hard thing to pull off, but when done right, it can be incredibly powerful. From the memory trip in the attic to going through each room showcasing a lived-in feel, all the fine detail and storytelling in the entirety of Chapter 4 is what I remember the most about the game.

    Dry Ice Mines (Brutal Legend)

You can say what you will about Brutal Legend, I love it even if it does have some issues, one thing they absolutely NAILED was their vision of having the world look like metal album covers and it makes for a really beautiful world to explore, this region is the best one for me, as I really like the winter aesthetics and besides that's the region where the Black and Doom metal kick in.

MCAS Banco de Panama (Splinter Cell Chaos Theory)

My favourite mission in my favourite Splinter Cell. Everything just clicks here. You're basically robbing a bank as Sam Fisher with all his gadgets! Such a cool mission. It sort of gives you freedom to "play with your food" even, as the guards are still not the toughest obstacles in the game. Oh man, that atmosphere.

  • I can't cotribute to the list but I'm really hoping we get some Ni No Kuni, Okami, or Paper Mario locations.

    Dry Ice Mines (Brutal Legend)
MCAS Banco de Panama (Splinter Cell Chaos Theory)
    Ragnarok Club (Max Payne)

I thought of using the Airport level from 3 but it isn't expressly named outside of being "that airport level from Max Payne 3", so instead I decided to use one of the more iconic locations from an early entry, Ragnarok Club.
In a game where shit is already all kinds of fucked up, the fucked uppery just gets turned up to 11 when you get to Ragnarok Club.
You face off against drug lord and insane occultist Jack Lupino, and it is the first time you meet Max's bae4lyfe, Mona Sax. Not to mention it has some of the more memorable lines from the entire series, i.e. "The Flesh of Fallen Angels!".

To be honest there are at least a dozen or so locations from each game that I would like to nominate, but I think this is the best choice.

    Dry Ice Mines (Brutal Legend)
MCAS Banco de Panama (Splinter Cell Chaos Theory)
    Ragnarok Club (Max Payne)
Fortified Residential Zone (Jet Set Radio Future)

The grungiest and most vertical level in the game. You're on a timer for most of it, leaping over staircase gaps and winding though stacked houses to defuse bombs. Epic roller blade platform action in the last place you'd expect to be zoned residential!

  • @El-Shmiablo I was this close to put that airport here before suddenly remembering Splinter Cell. I actually watched someone's playthrough of the shoot-out, Health's Tears and all. Such a memorable scene.

    Its soooo cooooooooooolll
Best bossfight in the game in this area, really good npc's, amazing secrets, tons of lore, good level design and art design.
Its a good. Its a great. Lets a go.

  • @Sentinel-Beach The first time I got to that level I actually had to pause and call my roommate in to witness the magnificence.

Seriously one of the best blendings of game and music ever.

  • Ravenholm (HL2)

    Ragnarok Club (Max Payne)
Fortified Residential Zone (Jet Set Radio Future)
    Anor Londo (Dark Souls)
    Olympus Coliseum (Kingdom Hearts 1)

Of all the worlds and places in the entire series, this is my favorite because its actually simple: Arrive, go through some trials, and when they become available, pick a tournament and train. It's the location with the most, most diverse, and most appealing fights in the game. The Hades Cup is awesome... but the Ice Titan and Sephiroth... bad words. Many bad words.

  • Well well well... What a coincidence a video discussing Wall Market just released on Kotaku to go a long with my entry on this list.

@Brannox I know your a fan of FFVII. have you check his videos out? He goes through the Japanese and English version of the game giving more context to the missing nuances and translations in the game.

I spent waaay to many hours in this game, also a lot of time in this specific city. Its a shame that it is located in a bit of an odd location. However, as my first experience with this game was with an night elf, entering Darnassus as the music kicked in for the first time was truly something special to me. I was home.

  • @CGamor7 I do and JUST watched part 4. They're really good. I enjoy them a lot.

  • @Lotias Hey, you're missing five entries. You bring the amount to 21 just so ya know!

Updating the list so nothing gets left behind.

I love the story and how it's presented in the first Infamous. Alden's Tower in the second area works as a great plot point and climax for that place, Ray Sphere's in the mix etc. The tower's just a cool location that stands there waiting all the time while you know you'll eventually climb that damn thing. And now I miss Cole. :/

Great city with a spirit, I spent so much time just roaming around in this town, talking to the locals and playing tetra master. Great vibes and you meet some very interesting people here, made me enjoy it more than Alexendria
