Allies, what are your top 10 games of all time? Name one game per franchise
Black-Cell last edited by Black-Cell
Recently I made a thread about best 10 games of decade. now its time for best top 10 games of all time.
10. Max Payne
Max Payne was highly regarded as one of the best third person shooter of all time. but imo its also one of few good third person shooter ever made. the game was very atmospheric story driven shooter with comic book style cutscene and bullet time gameplay that work perfectly well. the shooting mechanics, the gameplay, game design. everything this game done really well.
9. Mafia: The city of Lost Heaven
Mafia was the game that somehow people compare it to GTA but its a different. its a linear story driven shooter with some open maps divided into chapters. it was better than GTA in every single way. this game feature some of the greatest storyline in gaming history with tommy angelo is best written character i have ever seen.
8. Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay
Riddick Escape from Butcher bay is easily the best movie licence game ever made. the game is even better than its movie. it combine stealth, FPS, and meelee/hand to hand combat into one and it work perfectly fine. the atmosphere of this game was simply incredible. the whole prison breaking theme they done really good. it also have some of the best soundtracks ever.
7. Splinter cell Chaos Theory
This game was the pure stealth simulator. and probably best stealth game of all time. sneaking around the darkness, using night vision was very fun. it also have excellent level design. a single mission of this game is more creative than newer ubisoft games say entire assasssins creed. this was also the last good stealth game until ubisoft dumbed it down.
FEAR was the game that feature Best combat of any game ever made. it took bullet time slow mo mechanic from Max payne and perfected it. it was dark, gritty and atmospheric shooter. and still to this date no FPS game have better shooting than this game right here. the story was fantastic too and very very creepy.
5. DOOM (2016)
Doom is basically return to old school classic. its a perfect mix of modern and old school into one. the result that it become best game of its type and best in series. i prefer this over original because they are dated today. Doom 3 while fantastic game but this game is more better in every way. after FPS genre being ruined by COD/BF clones, this game bring back to its roots and breath of fresh air.
4. System Shock 2
System shock 2 was very inspirational game.. it was very deep and complex game. and to this date games copy it today like dead space did, like new prey will do. it was core concept of FPS/RPG hybrid which inspired Deus Ex and make it even more excellent. Prey which is closest thing to SS2 is not even close to this masterpiece.
3. Half life 2
Half life 2 was the game that change the landscape of FPS genre like first Half life raise the bar. Pacing of game is Excellent, the variety (from ravenholm to citadel), the level design, the gravity gun. Half life series is basically pioneer of storytelling in FPS genre and it tell incredible story without having a one single cutscene. that was an art of storytelling. shame we will never get half life 3 since valve is no longer a game developer anymore.
2. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl
This was the most unique and innovative FPS of all time and still to this day after a decade no other games feel that immersed in the world of zone. most immersive and atmospheric game of all time. 2007 was the time when FPS start feel stale with the released of COD4 and Halo 3. this game however was very unique. it probably one of the best game ever ever ever made. it might be released with flaws but i forgive the flaws here because how immersive this game is. if next Metro game will be even Half as Good as this masterpiece, it will be among the greatest games of all time.
1. Deus Ex
Now this is the best game ever ever ever made. no game still better than this game right here. none of its sequels neither IW which is one of the worst game of all time, nor HR a fantastic game but nothing compare to it and neither did mankind divided which was bad sequel to HR. Like System shock 2 this game perfected FPS/RPG hybrid and bring it to new level. games like Deus Ex are the reason why even mass effect exist today. i played it for the first time before the anticipation of Deus Ex HR. and it ended one of my Fav game of all time. best story in FPS game, the perfect level design, this game sum up everything about gaming.
so here it is my friends, what are you top 10 best games you have played?
lets list them one game per franchise.

With the one game per franchise rule, my list is as follows:
10.) Portal 2
9.) Resistance: Fall of Man
8.) Ratchet and Clank (2016)
7.) Mass Effect
6.) Gears of War 2
5.) Kingdom Hearts
4.) DOOM II
3.) The Last of Us
2.) Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
1.) Final Fantasy VII
Because of this rule, my number 2 and 10 games are not listed (Final Fantasy X and DOOM 2016 respectively).

I could do top-10s all day. I will try with this 1 per series rule but may not get to 10. The order is too tough but I will say that Mario and Super Metroid are at the top.
GTA San Andreas
3 was the one that revolutionized the series and I will never forget it for that and Vice City expanded on that. San Andreas gets my pick because of the customization, the size of the map and, most importantly, you...could.....SWIM!!!
Freedom in a game is a huge thing for me. I like the idea of having a goal and being able to do it several different ways. Not to mention how much blink added to these options.
You guessed it - I'm not a PC gamer. While I played Perfect Dark more, I was not a fan of the single-player in that game. And though I definitely feel like PD takes the prize in multiplayer, Goldeneye's advantage in single-player allows it to catch up with and (only just) pass PD.
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Rented it when it came out and hated it. Played it again a few years later, finished it and thought it was ok but still nothing compared to Ocarina of Time. Played it again about five years ago and absolutely loved it. Like Mario, this is really close and it could easily become Ocarina of Time again - if I ever go back to it. If I had to sum up my love for this game in one word, I think it would be "vibes".
Super Mario 64
This is a close one. It's between this and Super Mario World and I think my choice usually depends on what I had for breakfast that day. But I would say this wins more often than SMW. I do also love Sunshine and Odyssey but there's some extra emotion when you remember playing a game for the first time as a kid.
This one's easy. My favourite in the series by a long shot. I like the Prime games but didn't play them when they were new so that may have affected how impressed I was by them. Prime 1 would be my next in Metroid but, again, it's not even close. To me, this game is the perfect balance between nostalgia and holding up.
Ultra Street Fighter 4
I actually prefer the mechanics in the Street Fighter 4 series prior to Ultra but since it has Edition Select and the final 5 characters, this one gets the spot. Even though one of those characters was Elena and she made watching tournaments a slog, household bans made it easy enough to eliminate her from local play. While it is vastly different from Third Strike, I do find them similar in that you can always learn something new. I still jump in to training mode regularly with this game. I can't do anything but it's always fun to try!
Portal 1 was so good. Then they added new mechanics, new characters and, most impressively, coop. My friend and I were so heart-broken when the coop campaign was over that we actually starting going after the achievements - something neither of us ever do. Half Life 2 was good but Portal is the Valve series I miss most and hope to one day see a new release from.
Mario Kart Double Dash
The number or name after "Mario Kart" doesn't really matter. I love all Mario Karts - though the portable ones are definitely below the console ones. I like Double Dash because it is always a challenge to go back to after playing the newer games in the series. I know really good players just snake the whole game but I'm not a really good player so there is still challenge in navigating courses like Rainbow Road. Special items were a cool addition that added a new form of strategy based on what place you expected to be in for most of the race. Also Baby Park.
I'm afraid to commit but this is the first game that comes to mind for this last spot. This is the newest game that has left a lasting impression on me. I did not expect to like it at all but it just brought out so much emotion - not the least of which was frustration. While there was always motivation to push forward, I never felt like I was rushing myself to complete anything. Plus I played the whole thing with my wife and, as our first languages are different, it was awesome to enjoy a piece of media together and know that we were both getting exactly the same amount of information from it.
I tried to use games that I loved upon release but still enjoy today. This is why I have left off something like Final Fantasy 7. I loved that game and completed it twice. It still tickles my nostalgia bone but I just don't really enjoy RPGs anymore. That's what makes these kinds of lists so hard for me - balancing how much I used to enjoy something with how much I enjoy it now.

My favorite game of all time.
Red Dead Redemption
Best horse. Deadliest mountain lions.
Mass Effect 2
Peak Mass Effect
So far, IMO, the best Yakuza game
A weird choice, but it's my favorite fighting game on my favorite console.
Jet Set Radio
A weird game that works. Great soundtrack. Note: SEGA does not endorse graffiti.
My favorite Nintendo RPG. I found the cart near the dumpster in the apartment complex my girlfriend at the time lived in. FREE GAME! (it worked fine)
My favorite/an underappreciated RTS game with a great story.
The Last of Us
Yeah yeah. Vanilla. I like the single player game a lot, and I like the multiplayer a lot too.
Dragon Age: Origins
Forgot this on my previous list. I think I might have gone through this game fully 3 or 4 times.

@hanabi I was very close to adding Mega Man X1, 2 or 3 to my list. The movement in those games feels so good. And, of course, the music.

I don't have a numbered list or anything, but I do have my favorites separated into tiers. This was pretty tough.
The Upper Echelon
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (My favorite Zelda. Best dungeons I've ever played. Great characters, and great music.)
Katamari Damacy (Crazy, unique, charming. Wonderful and super underrated music.)
The Higher Echelon
Super Paper Mario (Best story in Mario History and a great OST.)
A Hat In Time (Great controls, great design, great music. A stellar first effort from GFB.)
Ni No Kuni (Gorgeous, heartwarming, amazing OST, great battle/crafting system. It has everything.)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Just a real good game about some real good lawyers.)
Mother 3 (It's one of the greatest games ever made, what do you want me to say?)
Pokemon Black 2 (The game that made me love games.)
Persona 3: Portable (My favorite characters and music in gaming history.)
Okami (The most beautiful, and best feeling game I've ever played. Very underrated OST.)

Well since this a-hole is doing 15, I'm adding another 5.
Resident Evil 5
Final Fantasy VI
Hard to put them in a list as they all are really good in their own way. Like what makes an RPG better than a shooter? story? gameplay? music? I have just listed 10, but wouldnt say that any of them are in a specific order. These are just 10 games I played a lot and enjoyed my time with and look back on with a smile on my lips.
- Burnout 3 (one of the best arcade racers there ever has been)
- The Last of Us (this game touched me so deep, just loved it)
- Elders Scroll 5: Skyrim (As I have spent 500+ hours in this game and recently picked it up again says it all)
- Zone of the Enders 2: Second runner (My avatar... I love Kojima, I love big robots, nuff said)
- Halo (a game that was so unique when it came out. I also got most books and love this series in general)
- Pokémon Gold/silver (I grew up with Pokémon, Silver was the highlight of the world for me for so many reasons)
- World of Warcraft (Played this pretty much non stop for 6 years on a extremely high level, sometimes I miss those old good times)
- StarCraft 2 (One of the best RTS games there ever was? also got me into competative games and e-sports)
- Titanfall 2 (If you havent played this yet, do yourself a favour and pick it up. Most solid shooter in a long long time)
- Final Fantasy IX (This is most likely my favourite RPG game of all times. I hold this close to my heart and it has stayed with me since I played it day 1)

I actually felt like putting some effort into this, so here's mine.
I have a big debate for tenth place because of Undertale, I think it is absolutely fantastic, and probably deserves better than my tenth spot, that said having only beaten once and on a single path I'm not completely sure if I would rank it in there though I think it is likely.
10. Odin Sphere
I don't know exactly what it is about it, but I just love Odin Sphere, ever since I played it on the PS2 it stuck with me and to this day it remains one of my favorites.
9. Civilization V
Before Vicky 2 this was the birth of my obsession for strategy, sadly I haven't played that much of 6, so V is still the one that takes first place for me.
8. Dragon Age Origins
Probably the first proper western RPG I played other than Oblivion, I think it can be upped by many games on the genre but I haven't enjoyed any others more than this.
7. Victoria 2
Talk about jank!!!, Still the countless hours I've devoted to it speak for themselves, none of the other Paradox Grand Strategy games have made me obsessed like Vicky 2, and really few things have.
6. Trails of Cold Steel
Love it, sadly I just liked the sequel but I really liked what I presented, and it may actually be on top of Suikoden but I think it is close.
5. Suikoden V
I have no problem saying this game is probably not up to par with many other in terms of quality, but I absolutely love it and I've enjoyed it thoroughly every time I've played it. Fuck Konami!!!
Despite the jank there's so much that I enjoy of this game, absolutely love going through it.
3. Papers Please
This game is perfectly executed and the end result is masterful.
Absolutely brilliant and made me appreciate games much more in many ways, Automata may be a better made game overall, but it didn't top the original in my eyes.
1. Persona 5
There's too much I can say, 3 and 4 are also in my top 5, this really is an obsession that has gone on for about 11 years now.
Goku last edited by
Ocarina of Time
Final Fantasy 9
Counter Strike GO
Metal Gear Solid 3
The Witcher 3
Fire Emblem Path of radiance
This would prob be different a month from now but this is how im feeling in the moment.

@oscillator Star Wars Episode 1 racer? Take my upvote! That game is criminally underrated (although I played it on my dad's PC).

- Chrono Trigger
- Final Fantasy 6
- Pokemon Gold
- Mario Galaxy
- Uncharted 2 (haven't played 4 yet)
- Mass Effect 2
- Super Smash Bros. Wii U
- Mario Kart 8
- Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
