God of War (PS4)

  • I watched the GameSpot review and they definitely spoiled some stuff, so I'd say avoid that if you're sensitive. Nothing super major, but just a warning.

  • Am I the only one that feels like this game has been out for like a week now and I'm the only one who haven't played it? All outlets have played/beat it and don't shut up about it. Its everywhere... LET THE GAME COME OUT FIRST!

  • Re: God of War (PS4)

I was always looking forward to this game, but I wasn’t chomping at the bit for it. I was planning on grabbing it at the first price drop; however, Huber’s review alone was enough to correct my plan and get me to place a preorder. Once I saw the sea of 10’s from other outlets, that only served to solidify my faith as an ally.

Can’t wait to play this on Friday!

  • After the first hour I can already start to understand why so many reviews would consider this a 10. This is something big. Something meaningful. The tone is something completely new to a God of War game. I love this seriousness, it is like many were anticipating Kratos meets The Last of Us, which feels pretty amazing. And the world has that feel of the new Tomb Raiders, where there are these hub areas and everything moves along in a wide manner. Places are going to interact with each others and new routes will be discovered, connecting them. That's been one of my favourite things in TR games, that structure, so this feels very good.

The axe feels good, it feels good! There's a right amount of weight to it, but it's still so versatile too. You can swing it in a wild fashion, but it still feels believable as well. Feels good to hit enemies, juggle them and all. And the environment reacts wonderfully, trees are falling when enemies hit them etc. Impressive stuff.

Judge fit really quickly into Kratos' shoes, the slight echoes of Teal'c are vanishing every minute more. The boy does a great job too, and Jeremy Davies is an excellent addition to the cast as well. I really, really liked him in Lost and Justified, a brilliant actor.

  • @sentinel-beach I have clocked in a little over 9 hours, including as many side quest as possible, and I have barely scratched the surface. The combat works, and is fun. There is a definite challenge, even if it can become based on numbers and leveling. My only problem is for some enemies or tough bosses where you're not leveled properly, that the best way to damage is through chip damage by throwing your axe. This is a major problem, if you are starting on the hardest difficulty. Aguy I subscribed on Youtube started his playthrough on God of War difficulty; I started on Normal. That has always been a standard for me. I'll be playing more this weekend.

  • I started on Normal as well, seemed like the best choise for me, and it has been. I'm only about six hours in, but I'm planning on doubling that in the next six hours, lol. :D There's a huge number of things in the game, this feels like a gigantic adventure. All the time something new is being introduced, collectible or otherwise. I really like this structure and the scope of things. No idea what's ahead, and that feels super exciting!

Even all the minor things feel super good in this. Every time you hit the triangle and the axe returns to your hand you feel like the king of everything. It's just so mmm, yes!

  • By the way, how freaking cool is this. I can't believe they got Cory Barlog to come by, I smiled so wide when I saw this. :)

The Spoiler Mode just feels like it's coming too early next week, but sure, it'll be there waiting once everyone's finished their journey with Kratos and Atreus.

  • I love this game alot, it will probably be on my top 3 favorite games of all time.

  • @sentinel-beach I knew I liked Cory Barlog, and him doing this really cements that.
Though perhaps that's an awkward Spoiler Mode to do when the guy who created it is sitting next to you. Luckily for them the game is a 10 and they were unlikely to complain about much.

  • I'm only about 3 hours in so I haven't got much more to say except that I agree with all of you, it does feel like something special from the very beginning, every facet is extremely polished.

The tone is so grounded and daunting, I'm invested in this story even though I've never played any other God of War game before (nice contrast with Far Cry 5 which I just finished and never managed to care about what was going on). It makes me want to dive in the lore, explore and find everything, read all the codex entries!

It's also more challenging than I expected, you can't mindlessly button-mash and the game expects you to use every single weapon in your arsenal as soon it teaches it to you. I appreciate that a lot, compared to for example Xenoblade Chronicles 2 where the game threw tons of combat options at me from the very beginning without providing me the level of challenge that requires them at the same time.

I can't wait to play more but I'll also take my time and savour this one over the next few weeks.

  • I’ve only managed to put in about 2 hours total this weekend but OH MY GOD (of War) this game is so good! A true leap forward for the franchise in so many ways but I want to play some more before really digging into my thoughts on the game.

  • Probably don't have to warn people about spoilers, but just had something spoiled on a Facebook post for a local news channel.

  • Just rolled credits, this is a 10.

  • I think I had something spoiled for me in the EZA Community on PS4. I should probably just play this game ASAP.

  • Experienced something that I think was the midpoint, brought a big smile to my face when it happened.

  • I too have been spoiled by casually browsing youtube and seeing splash pictures and video titles. Fortunately the spoiler confirms something I figured would happen anyway, soooo not that bad.

Definitely getting it next month when I have a little money.

  • @sentinel-beach Oh man thats great, cant wait to hear they different opinions on GoW. I hope they could ask Cory some questions, about the development and stuff. Cant wait to see it, BUT first I have to finish this great game. ^^

  • @el-shmiablo
You mean the bit when Spider-Man shows up?

  • @dmcmaster I think I know what you're talking about. I honestly had sensations in my stomach at that point, smiling so much. This is. so. good. The whole game.
