TV - What Are You Watching

  • @michemagius thanks to a coworker I was reminded how great Dead Like Me is, so gotta rewatch that too.

This might just be a Bryan Fuller July.

Just watched the Black Mirror episode Arkangel, about the possessive mother. I enjoyed the story, but it's a dumb story. How stupid does a parent have to be to not understand filtering everything bad out is bad for your kid? I didn't buy it. It's way too obvious, which I guess is often the problem with Black Mirror. It does remind me of this point I remember making a long time ago about the violence in many video games and other media not being graphic enough, though. We act like making it softer will make it better for the children, but that just makes it seem more acceptable. I want better gore and pain in my games. It SHOULD be shocking, because it is really that bad. Unless the game or whatever it is is more on the sillier side.

  • Just finished Cobra Kai and it's my favorite show this year so far. I've yet to watch heavy hitters like Handmaid's Tale and Westworld but seeing how well they handled a 30 year old sequel to The Karate Kid for this new generation is gonna be tough to beat.
Special shout-out to Steven Universe for a close second place and imo the best animated show on tv with a chance to be the GOAT.

  • I rewatched several episodes of: Red Dwarf, Mr Bean, Bottom, Fawlty Towers, Men Behaving Badly and F for Family.

Wow, I just watched the first episode of Planet Earth 2 in 4K. Gorgeous! This month old 1500 dollar TV never felt more worth it. This episode was about our islands and what their inhabitants will do to survive. Great stories.

  • Watching some "8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown."

Good show to watch in between MMO stuff.

  • @crepe I discovered this show last winter and practically gobbled dozens of episodes in one month. There are many in YouTube. I love the humour, both Jimmy's and the captains', often guests', too. And Rachel just melts my heart. :]

  • Since I'm in a long distance relationship (they're tough, ya'll!), I decided it would be a good bonding experience to start a show up with her that we both have an interest in yet have never seen before and we settled on sense8. I'm about halfway through season 1 and while I'm enjoying the show, I do feel like some of the characters are undercooked and after witnessing several characters being surprised with their powers (which does make lots of sense, it would be startling), I'm ready for them to start moving the plot forward again. I do love a lot of the cinematography though and it probably has the best orgy scene I've ever witnessed, so that's a thing.

  • Watching Suits as of now! Season 3 and enjoying it a lot.

  • Unbreakable kimmy schmidt season 4 : this is one of my favorite comedy shows in the last 5-10 years.

  • Global Moderator

I just picked up Vikings again. This series really improves after you get over the initial slow start. Only in early season 2 so far, but I am now hooked.

  • i finished season 1 of Shooter on Netflix, that's a really good show

  • After I stopped watching 3 superhero TV shows at around the first 2/3 of the latest seasons, I caught up on Agents of Shield, Supergirl and Arrow.
Agents of Shield: Again a fun time. The latest 3 seasons or so finished really strong with satisfying conclusion of the overall plot. Too bad I still don’t care about most of the characters.
Supergirl: What a piece of shit that was. After one of the CW producers got metoo-ed, they lost all writers or at least a clear direction. So many terrible and stupid things. But if you can call it a positive, probably not having a script 2 hours before shooting starts can get you stories that are on the front of the current interests, like an episode about guns and gun laws that has a so stupid ending, that fails to even get one good or reasonable point across… .
Arrow: Slightly better but the season probably should have been 5 or so episodes less. Arrow recruits/expands his team and then they split for some made up reasons or no reason at all, hardy makes it possible to sympathise with the characters. Diggle never looked so helpless after picking a fight with Ollie. Anyway at least the ending was good.

  • Matt Groening's Disenchantment is now on Netflix with 10 episodes. Just checked out the first one, and I think it was quite nice and easy to follow. It kept me on a good mood, had some laughs here and there. The princess appears to be an easily likable main character, while with Elfo and the demon I'll need some more time. The era of kings and knights and all that seems to work pretty well as the setting, lots of jokes out of all that.

  • Watching all of Absolutely Fabulous again and progressively watching better call Saul season 4 as it comes out.

  • I watched the last few episodes of the first season of the new Ducktales series. It was great. Not completely just aimed at kids or at least not insultingly stupid like most new shows for children. Donald in the last episode was hilarious, got also slightly dark and emotional.

  • Kamen Rider Build had a great, if bittersweet, ending. Don't think I'd put it up on the pantheon with Blade or Kuuga but it's definitely just a step below at worst.

  • Currently I am watching Ozark season 2 and i just started my Hero Academia!

  • Just finished the first season (nine episodes) of The Dragon Prince, a new Netflix fantasy. If you liked and loved Avatar: The Last Airbender, then please, check this one out! There are some same people behind both shows and the same magic works in this one as well, I fell in love with the characters and the story elements really quickly. Rayla's accent makes me go <3<3<3

  • @sentinel-beach does the animation improve/do you get used to it fairly quickly? That's the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger.
