The EZA Community Top 25 Best of 2014!

  • I've gotta say I was disappointed with Bayonetta 2, I found it to be not as good as the first one, it honestly should have been on my list based on pure quality, but there were other games I think were more interesting even if not as good.

  • Oh hey finally something off my list.

Bayo 2's good stuff. This was Wii U's year, even if my top 2 weren't exclusives I think the majority of the rest of my games were. I'm hoping at least one or two of them show up. I know Akiba's Trip is a no-hoper.

  • Bayo 2 is 2014 true GOTY

  • Hey! I got one prediction right! Nice! 2014 was by far and away the year that seemingly held practically nothing for me of interest (Though there are six games I did play that came out that year, I promise.). As for Bayonetta specifically, much in the same vein of Devil May Cry, those kinds of games don't appeal to me primarily from the gameplay aspect. I don't necessarily have anything against Bayonetta's look and tone, but at least we're finally getting into the real heavy hitters.

  • Never played it but I really really really want to.

  • Heard may good things about Bayonetta series from Allies. Since I'm a sad owner of Switch, I've decided to give it a try. I've played first game and didn't like it: story was a drag (too many ending) and combat felt unbalanced (too hard on normal, to mindless on easy). The only good thing I can say about Bayonetta is that it's $6 on Steam, which is a reasonable amount to cross a series from your "to play" list without any doubts.

P.S. Remember, this is just my personal opinion.

  • I think my HMs being the only ones making it to this list so far says something about my weird, disparate likes. Which is totally cool. Unless 2 of my top 4 somehow end up in the final top 4...

  • The top 4 will be: Akiba's Trip, Tales of Xillia 2, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd, and then at number 1, Five Nights at Freddy's.

  • I'm certain my GotY 2014 Bayonetta 2 would have ranked higher if it wasn't an Wii U exclusive, but the exclusivity was the only way to get a Bayo 2 at all so I won't complain, where Bayo goes I go too... well except cellphones, that would just be shit.
That's probably it for my votes, esle I would be very surprised.

  • Wolfenstein's got to be 1, right?

  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

  • Weird to see a game in the top 5 not receive a single number one vote. Still, this version of Smash was pretty dang good. Duck Hunt Dog is a perfect compliment to my love of the weirder characters in the series (huge Game n' Watch fan, for instance) and it fixes a lot of the problems Brawl had. It didn't capture my heart as much as Melee did back in the day, but that may have to do more with me than the quality of the game itself. Some real cool guest characters too, like Cloud himself.

  • In university, a group of guys rented out this zone near the editing suites and played a big tournament of Smash Bros Wii U and I was blown away by how good the graphics were. It killed me to be doing work in a small room alone close by while they played this game all night. I never ended up playing it though. I didn't know one single person who owned a Wii U. Not one.

  • I didn't enough people played this on the Wii U to put it up this high. Huh.

  • Are you fucking kidding me.

  • This just barely missed my HMs. Smash 4 is some damn fun times, even if the 3DS version is probably objectively better since it has the pretty neat Smash Run instead of the godawful Smash Tour, and generally more interesting stages. But you know being a little handheld game for a big platforming fighter like this does hurt it a good bit, even if it made as smooth a transition as you could really hope for.

  • @iboshow Surprised it's that high, or that low?

That one was my very first Smash game ever so I have very strong memories of it and still play it once in a while to this day. I'm always amazed by the incredible amount of polish and love Sakurai puts into his games, it was the same for Kid Icarus Uprising. Every single little detail, down to the menus, is carefully and joyfully crafted.

The gameplay is chaotic, endless fun, the amount and variety of characters and playstyles is incredible. The customization options are also very generous, you can make the game as casual or hardcore as you want. It's the epitomy of jolliness!

I can't wait for the next one on Switch!

  • Two for two in guessing! Smash never was my thing primarily because of not having any friends to play when I got Melee for the Gamecube and it being a fighting game. However, it will never be not funny seeing many Nintendo (and several guest) characters just absolutely wail on each other. I've always had an appreciation of Smash, but I truly did not comprehend just how big a deal it is until I saw the reaction videos to the Switch version's announcement. People worship this game.

  • Wondering if my #3 game will make a sleeper appearance in the top 5 considering nobody gave Smash #1 and I see this game also not making anybodies #1 either, but certainly 2-4 and HM's.

  • Ooookay. Only three spots left, no way Tales from the Borderlands will make it. That's a shame, it's my favourite Telltale game. I love those characters so much. It's the perfect mix of comedy and tragedy, laughter and tears. So many moments... And the musics!
