The EZA Community Top 25 Best of 2014!

  • Yep, Shovel Knight is a good call.

And I confused Titanfall with its sequel. There's no way in any reality the first one would place in the whole top 25. And I don't see the first Watch Dogs this high either, nope. I gave it an HM, thought it was cool with its new ideas and mechanics, but WD2 from '16 is the real star in the series.

  • I think Shovel Knight will be number one. I thought Mordor would be two and Smash would be 3. Did any Persona games come out in 2014?

  • While I think Melee is still my favorite Smash, I do think Smash 4 is the best one. Playing Smash with eight players at a party is one of my favorite memories of 2014. It's good, hectic fun.

  • While I had a hard time deciding between this and my #2 I gave it to Stick of Truth because I don't think a game has ever made me laugh as hard as this one did. The only real complaint I can think of is how easy it is to break the combat in half with bleeding/burning stacks.

  • I with that, I think all my HMs made it. 2014 was a great year.

  • YES! You all redeemed yourselves with South Park #3! I loved this game so much. As a lifelong fan, it felt like a series climax.

  • As someone's who's not familiar with South Park at all, i was particularly surprised with how good this game is. it's brimming with humor and personality, and the RPG mechanics are actually very competent. I only played it for a few hours (and i forgot it came out in 2014) so i didn't nominate it at all.

Speaking of nominations, looks like only my top two picks are going to be on this list. Here's hoping for Wolfenstein to be number 1!

  • The Stick of Truth was a great surprise when it was released. :) The humor hit all the right notes practically all the time, and the mechanics and the world worked nicely as well. I do think, however, that The Fractured But Whole is even better still with its new combat mechanics and the whole superhero theme and story which I love way more. It's essentially the funniest game I've ever played. But yeah, really nice to see the Stick this high in '14 list.

  • South Park: The Stick of Truth is a really funny game. But at the same time, some parts are very frustrating (especially some QTE), so only #7 in my list.

  • Looks like 2014 has much wider range of opinions. #3 has only 35 points from 40 voters, while in 2017 #3 had 72 points from 54 voters.

  • I really liked the US version of this game, but because Ubishit's absolutely uneccessary PAL-wide censorship I omitted the game from my list.

  • @ffff0 2017 had a lot of standouts, and i don't think the same can be said for 2014.

  • I never got into South Park, the toilet humour is something which I do find juvenile. There's a chance I might like some aspects of the game, but I haven't picked it up yet.

  • @bam541 Before I went to make my list I could only think of two or three 2014 games even worth mentioning and even after going down the list of potential GOTYs I still only had those two or three and a bunch of Wii U games that I guess I just forgot what year they came out.

  • I like South Park, but only in small doses, so I passed on Stick of Truth not because of gameplay but because of South Park overload. And with Stick of Truth being in development hell for as long as it was, it's good to see it succeed. And with three for three guess so far, I think that'll be it in guessing right. I DID think I left off a major game and sure enough, Shovel Knight should be revealed soon. I still think Wolfenstein is a possibility.

  • 2014 had an abundance of games which I'd consider "good". Stick of Truth is one of them, but I only played like 2 hours of it and then put it down. The South Park-style of humor and voices really grate on me. They have since I stopped watching season 1 of the show. It was not on my list.

  • I'm a fan of South Park as it has constantly evolved the way it tells stories and is extremely different from what it was when it came out and Stick of Truth is pretty good. That being said, it was cut from my list because it was an extremely short time that didn't leave much of an impact on me - I don't remember much of the game, just a select few moments, Canada probably being the highlight.

  • I played this and thought it was alright. Serviceable gameplay, but I thought it was a bit long and too heavy on fan service.

I have to say it looks great though. There's virtually no difference between its visuals and the show's, which is a real achievement.
