GameTrailers' GOTY for 2014 has revealed itself.

I'm not into card games and I'm even less knowledgable about anything done by Blizzard, so I clearly cannot comment on Hearthstone. All I CAN say however is if this won 2014 at GameTrailers then 1.) What are the remaining 20 (knowing full well there are still four games I voted for yet to potentially be revealed and only knowing two more coming)?! and 2.) 2014 was a massively divergent year between GT and us.

@brannox Yeah, I remember it being a choice not a lot of people agreed with back in the day and probably don't agree with now as well. I know a lot of the fellas were playing it constantly and it became an important part of their daily routine, but considering Hearthstone implements a pay-to-win structure, it has always felt a little scummy to me personally. Still, there's some fun mechanics and a lot of great "world-building" considering it's a card game.

I played it for a bit a year or so ago and I really couldn't get into it. I don't remember what it was, but something just didn't sit right with me in its gameplay.

I'd be mostly indiferent towards Hearthstone, however I really dislike it simply because a good of number of friends stop playing magic because of it ... so yeah go to hell Hearthstone

Hearthstone has the position a lot of games might find themselves in 4 years later: beloved at the time, not nearly as loved later on.

I'm not a TCG guy, but I did try this game and find it more approachable and beginner-friendly than other TCGs that I know. Probably the most fun I had playing a TCG, didn't last long though.

After it got GotY from GT I've tried Hearthstone. Easily won first three matches, then got destroyed in next couple. And every time game told me that I'm facing "worthy opponent" which felt like an insult. Uninstalled.
I played HS for a while with some friends, but I always have a hard time with card games, even if its made by Blizzard. So eventually dropped it to never be picked up again haha.

My very last Hearthstone match was during Ben's tournament where my low level deck of randoms (with a fun trick or two) got obliterated by someone with all high level cards, lol.

I supported GT all the way with their choice; it was ridiculous the amount of opposition it got with people trying to state that a card game isn't worthy of the honour.
I didn't care for Hearthstone myself, again it's another multiplayer game.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a fun game, but it feels like a heavily overpriced demo.

I received it for free and didn't play it until just before Phantom Pain in 2015, so I wasn't burned how what probably a lot of the main audience were in terms of price.
However, in hindsight, Ground Zeroes is everything I wanted Phantom Pain to be. The same slick gameplay and mechanics, but with a smaller, more focused open world. I've always been a Phantom Pain apologist, as it is the most loyal representation to his original vision for the first Metal Gear game, where you could infiltrate a base from any angle, with the tools you decided. However, I would be dishonest if I said I enjoyed it more than the linear experience you can find in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It's why I enjoyed Ground Zeroes so much, and have gone back to it since playing Phantom Pain. It's a great middle ground.
I had an absolute blast exploring the level, completing the various side missions. Helping Kojima escape from the prison was hilarious. Ground Zeroes just meshes so well with my gameplay style; it's extremely replayable. On the surface it's a very short game, unreasonably so, but take another stride into its waters and you'll find the deep bits.

I'm known for being on the fence for Metal Gear Solid, so I didn't play Ground Zeroes. But from an outsider's perspective, Ground Zeroes is curious to me. I've never been sure as to why the game exists outside and not a part of Phantom Pain. From what I've gathered, Ground Zeroes is more concise and complete where Phantom Pain isn't, but because of its length, the demo-like nature (at the time) it felt like several were not happy there was more. But hindsight being what it is, I guess Ground Zeroes was the more polished product for what was there.

Ground Zeroes is a great game, it has 10 hours worth of content but people like to shit on it. It's not a demo and one of the best games released that year.

@ff7cloud Shiiiit you're right, you and TokyoSlim actually, so it should have 2 more points. I ended up with two different entries for it in my Excel file :(
I'll see how I can update the rankings, sorry!

If I did my research properly, I would have voted MGS GZ as my HM. I was completely blown away by the audio design in that game. The premise of creating a 2min very highly detailed sound story that you listen to contextualized within the game through the Walkman tape, then use the audio to discover the path you're supposed to take was very very impressive to me.
I am also a huge fan of the film Sacco e Vanzetti which was a heavy influence on this game. I got the chills when "Here's To You" by Joan Baez and Ennio Morricone started playing.
Unfortunately, this type of creative mission never appeared once in the main game MGS V. I went in expecting some really creative open world style missions and didn't get anything like that. I really liked MGS V but was very disappointed after having played MGS V GZ which was very good.

@axel thanks for checking. I was wondering why my name wasn't on there, thought I might have bumped it, but didn't check.
