Devil May Cry 5 (XBO/PS4/PC)

  • @bam541

    LOOOOOOoool mobile.... sorry

  • Just bought it, it's on sale on the EU PS Store.

I might not get to it immediately, still gotta finish FF VII, but probably next week.

It'll be my first DMC game so I'm curious how I'll like it.

  • Incase no one saw it there's a new DLC arm for Nero that's free.

  • @dmcmaster link?

  • @tearju-engi

    Monkey Business

  • Started playing it last night, it's my first Devil May Cry so the video recapping the story so far was very appreciated!

I played through the first couple chapters and I feel like I'm struggling with the controls, I can't reliably pull off the moves I want, but I'm still pushing through and getting decent marks. That's something I never liked in Bayonetta, completing a level and being slapped with a big "D" takes away the feeling of achievement, like I didn't really win. But I'll get over it. Having the Void to practice is a very cool feature and I'll make use of it to improve.

The story and banter is enjoyable, although I find the voice of Nico very odd, like her accent is forced and inconsistent, also much deeper than her appearance would suggest. is it just me?

But I can tell it's gonna be a fun ride. The first boss fight was great (although I'm not sure I was fighting him the "right" way), and I'm intrigued with where the story's gonna go!

  • @axel You'll get better with practice. The flaw with how you gain style points is worse compared to past games. Style points are based on a cumulative score scale for whatever reason. Also, certain enemies are worth more style points than the others. For example if you got a consistent SSS in one section, but only got to an A, it will hurt your overall average. Why they decided to do it this way is beyond me and really stupid. Some fights with regular enemies, if possible, you are better off skipping or avoiding altogether to maintain your high average.

  • Other than the spectacular presentation I was kind of disappointed with this game. Good just not great.

  • Here are some analysis videos if anyone is interested.

  • Just played the first three levels and I am so annoyed with this game. Nothing seems to click with me. Struggling with controls, especially camera and lock-on system just isn’t working for me. Dodging mechanics missing some kind of reference, as I am not able to tell if an attack is hitting me or not. Problem with the controls might be on my part or I just have to get used to it, but even the level design - First few levels looks like copy/paste from DMC, but most annoying, I just want to play like 3 minutes without being interrupted by a pointless cutscene. Insectoid enemies also look kind of lame and for the first two boss fight - Just some demons I guess. A bit more context or story would be appreciated. And second boss kept dodging attacks, so it is not really fun to fight it. Will be hard to be motivated to play again.

@ikataishou I will say that the story gets better as you go. It is told non-linearly for certain segments, so certain reveals (which are obvious from the jump anyway) have a little more punch.

I never had an problems with the camera, especially since when it gets pushed against a wall it will just push through the wall and make it transparent.

The rest I think you just need to get used to. Unlocking more moves over time generally makes things feel a lot smoother

  • @ikataishou You'll get used to it sir or madam. Just keep trying and practicing. Make sure to keep unlocking new moves when you can.

  • So, I actually finished the game a few days ago. Playing as Dante and V is a bit more entertaining than Nero but still never got into the zone, where combat felt fluid. Nero with his disposable specials really felt like a cheap Dante this time. Level design got gradually worse with just a bunch of corridors you go through in the second half of the game. Story was, well not a lot stuff going on, but I guess that is what people call “character driven”. Worse at the end was the bunch of gold orbs I wasted at the last boss for resetting his “final form” after reviving, cause I was not able to damage him otherwise. Felt like being designed for the arcade. …To sum up: I liked 4 and DMC a lot more.

I personally loved Nero and Dante but absolutely cannot stand playing as V from both a gameplay and character stabdpoint.
My wife would often be reading on the couch next to me while I was playing and look up whenever V started spouting some cringe inducing shit. She said she hated him more than any other character in any other work of fiction.

Sorry, to say this, but she don't know shit! It's one thing to not like V, but there are characters way more annoying in gaming or fiction in general than him. And that is characters you do play as.

  • @ikataishou Just keep practing at it and you will get better. Eventually you can start doing crazy moves like this.

@brawlman I mean, she doesn't play a ton of videogames or watch a lot of anime like I do so she probably isn't exposed to as many terrible characters as I am, and I still think he is completely unbearable.

  • @el-shmiablo All you are both really doing is hating on Vergil's human side, soooooo......yeahhhh.... I got nothing to add to that.
