For Huber's playthrough, sure, I guess I would prefer an EZA interpretation. Plus topical hype about the impending Remake.

It's not just the Pokemon or the characters, but I'm not a fan of the buildings and environments. Outside of just those though, there were many gameplay tweaks and additions that also just didn't vibe with me. I'm actually thankful many entries parse down the number, and I'm happy to hear Let's Go is sticking with the originals, but the Alolans feel... wrong... for a lapsed player such as myself. Plus the one new Pokemon thing is WEIRD. Just ONE? Why? I also like your example of a kid shaking the ball in the car. I can see how that could be a major draw. But it's clear Let's Go isn't a traditional Pokemon and as a result isn't targeted specifically to those who are more in tune to the expected experience of past games.

Hahaha. Fair point about the art style. I can see you are a big fan of it. ^_^

Oh, I agree about Mario. He's straight up out of left field as it were. The less characterization to him, personally speaking, the better.

  • @brannox said:

Honestly I'm not. I just don't mind it so much. DQVIII probably endeared me to it more than anything with characters like Yangus. I think Chrono Trigger makes it easy enough to ignore as only really the hero and a small handful of other characters have that blatant look to them.

The less characterization to him, personally speaking, the better.

I think the lack of characterization is what makes him come off even more psycho. Like Paper Mario is always really charming, but when Mario is jumping around in a 3D game going "Wahoo!" while kicking enemies around I think that's weird.

  • @mbun I believe we can both agree Mario is just weird period, with a whole list of reasons as to why.

  • Update 3.4 has proven to me that the more games that are added, the more variations there will be in between updates. In other words, the list isn’t as stable as the course of versions 1 and 2. Also, I want to point out I had notes written out, copy and pasted into the text field, then saw two new additions. Hehehehehe. Timing.

Anyway, Spiderman is getting oh so CLOSE! Only a half point away from toppling CyberPunk for the most desired game!

Ghost of Tsushima gets up two spots to third, edging out Red Dead Redemption 2 by 0.1.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is only behind them by 0.2, but is ahead of Kingdom Hearts III by a half point.

The Last of Us Part II, Sekiro, Control, and Smash are all within a point of each other. The differences are 0.3, 0.4, and 0.2 respectively. Speaking of Control, it was able to get ahead of both Smash and Devil May Cry 5 in this update.

Babylon’s Fall jumped ahead of Fallout 76 by a large margin (well, large for this list anyway).

Halo increasing its distance from Skull & Bones by over a whole point shows a new tier forming in the list. The top half are the top half, with little worry about any of those falling out. Then there’s a middle tier comprised of three games that seem to be (with exceptions of course) uniformly in the middle of many lists. Then there’s the bottom tier spaced quite a bit from one another.

Gears 5 only leads Anthem by 0.4, but honestly, that doesn’t matter as much as it does near the top.

There was no movement in the last third of the list.

  • Spider-Man doesn't approve that his name is spelled wrong.

    alt text

  • @sentinel-beach You must be mistaken, we're referring to the new game about Robert Spiderman. He's a private detective in New York that always gets a lot of lip from his friends about his last name. That's what his Great Granddaddy got at Ellis Island though, so he's sticking with it!

  • @brannox In case you weren't aware, that play through already exists. He did it at GT. If you like Adam Sandler voices and one of the highest death counts they've ever had for a play through, I highly recommend it.

    1. Spider-Man-should probably preface this by saying I'm not exactly what you would call a Spider-Man fan. Far from it, but even I can appreciate the effort and craftsmanship put into this title and the E3 2018 demo was such a huge step from the previous showing. This would maybe slide into the upper echelon if Insomniac suddenly revealed that Venom was a playable character, but that is probably being saved for a sequel
    2. Kingdom Hearts 3-never touched Kingdom Hearts. The dialogue and characters are certainly, ahem, interesting. Clearly isn't a tone or style that I would be into. Still, it is the long awaited grand finale of a saga and seeing stuff like Toy Story and Monsters Inc. does spark something in my cold heart
    3. Skull & Bones-this earns a high spot on the lower tiers simply because it is a different game from the usual formula that Ubisoft titles have been following and is also supplying a niche genre another contender
    4. Fallout 76-man, I wish this was a proper new Fallout title, with writing duties by Obsidian because the new monsters look dope, but the whole MMO-lite thing is a deal breaker
    5. Gears 5-didn't get round to playing Gears 4 so I can't exactly be thrilled about a sequel either. The narrative could go some interesting places, I suppose
    6. Dragon Quest XI-not a JRPG guy and so am completely unfamiliar with the series. It sort of ranks here by default simply because I have no strong feelings one way or the other
    7. The Elder Scrolls VI-this is too far off to even begin to get excited for, plus I think the franchise has been on a steady decline in terms of RPG elements and quality
    8. Team Sonic Racing-boy, do I hate kart racers! Boy, do I not care one bit for Sonic!
    9. Pokemon Let's Go Evee/Pikachu-never cared for Pokemon and this just seems like a stopgap before the real deal next year
    10. Call of Duty Black Ops IIII-no single player campaign, no buy! Also, that season pass policy is ridiculously anti-consumer so congrats Activision, your flagship franchise can keep the bottom seat warm for now

I've decide to update mine to give descriptions to the games under the "radar" so to speak. Hopefully, it will help better articulate my reasons for their ranks.

And my hypocrisy shines through with number 7 for Babylon's Fall, cause I can only imagine good things coming from another Square Enix/ Platinum collaboration.

Don't feel bad about it. The whole point of this thing is what is currently your strongest desires, so it makes sense a game we don't know too much about yet hasn't boiled to the peak of its hype yet.

People are not gonna like mine I suspect.

    Seems fine to me.

Kingdom Hearts 3 (not a huge KH fan and it is still this high)

    Same, the feel is surreal.

Ghost of Tsushima (looks pretty good but something is off with the animations. looks.. clunky somehow)

Maybe they're going for exaggerated movement in bursts like many classic Samurai films? Maybe I'm just making excuses for it?

this looks even more open world which is a minus. I want more focus on story, not less.

I think it is less open world than people originally assumed. Seems segmented into NPC hubs and the missions you get sent on. Hubs being NPC only means there's probably going to be plenty story, but if you want to main big conflict of the story to ever be resolved, then you're going to be disappointed with what the devs have already said about that ruining the gameplay. You can probably expect smaller story questlines though.

Dragon Quest XI (sorry haven't played any DQ and the trailers look pretty bad. I don't understand the hype

I feel you. I don't really get it either, because the game is already out in Japan and did worse than DQ normally does there, which is a really bad sign imo when that's coming from the true experts of the franchise. Maybe people just want a really traditional fantasy adventure right now since not many seem to want to provide that anymore, but even then I honestly think you're better off with Octopath Traveler. Although, I also recognize that DQXI will inevitably be way more lighthearted than Octopath, so maybe it is a legacy and vibes thing?

Pokemon Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu (I've never played any Pokemon games and this seems worse

When you start thinking about games aimed for different audiences, I don't know if it is necessarily "worse" than the rest of the mainline, but it is definitely aimed at an audience I don't find myself identifying with. Just hope if the main series really does split into two parts, this casual branch soaks up all the casual considerations that have been plaguing the main series during the last two Pokemon generations, so those games can get back to what I love about Pokemon. Sun / Moon were downright depressing to me.

The 1st batch are games I at the moment plan to buy and play, and even contains GOTY candidates

    1. Dragon Quest XI
I love Dragon Quest, it's one of my favorite IPs of all time, and it's high time the main series comes back to singleplayer and home console. GOTY candidate for 2018
    2. Resident Evil 2 Remake
I've been waiting for this since REmake, while it's not hw I wanted it at 1st it just looks so good, the E3 gameplay made me very excited and I hope Nemesis will get the same treatment. GOTY candidate for 2019.
    3. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Just loved how it looks and I'm happy FromSoftware is not making a soulslike game for once.
    4. Babylon's Fall
PlatinumGames X Square Enix, a combination that brought us Nier: Automata, I'm very excited to see what this game is, of course the gameplay reveal could lower the score. Not impossible to become a GOTY candidate for the year of its release

    +1

I haven't successfully gotten in DQ myself yet, but I heartily concur with the rest of this quoted portion. My GOTY 2019 is very likely going to be one of the remaining 3.

As the Allies like to say during their podcasts "It's never wrong to dream!", and that's exactly how I'm feeling about Babylon's Fall right now.

  • We’ve come to Update 3.5 and for version 3, it appears the fluctuation died down. There is NOT a single spot move, but there was a lot of closing in behind the scenes.

While they didn’t switch positions, Kingdom Hearts III pulled up to tie with Resident Evil 2 Remake (Or RE2: R fell, dependent on your philosophical views on life…).

The Last of Us Part II maintains a 0.2 lead over what’s underneath it, but instead of space between the next few entries, directly behind is the second tie of this update. Between Sekiro and Control, Sekiro takes placement for having a highest desire. While this did NOT move the placement among these three, the differences between closed nice and tight.

Smash and DMC 5 grew close together, shortening the difference to 0.3.

The difference between Dragon Quest XI and Babylon’s Fall is almost two whole points, reiterating the divide between the top dozen and the rest of the list.

Fallout 76 is maintaining a half point lead over Halo: Infinite.

The Elder Scrolls VI closed the gap on Skull & Bones all the way to just 0.2.

Before ending I have a question to ask: In light of having to make sure I double check entries, the scrolling is starting to annoy (but not by much). However, it made me realize the scrolling you would have to do would probably be just as, if not more so, annoying. So I wanted to put it to all of you: Would you rather -

A.) Keep the thread like it is and update your original post.
B.) Create a new post with your most recent Desire Index when the next batch of games come

I’m fine with either option, just wanted to gauge your thoughts. In any event, I hope everyone is having a nice weekend!

I think this is a good time to point out for anyone who doesn't know already that you can disable infinite scrolling of posts, and have threads appear "paginated". Click your profile picture in the upper right, and go to settings. Scroll down and near the bottom left look for the setting "Paginate topics and posts instead of using infinite scroll".

When I update my desire index, I just remember "It's on page 2", which makes it very quick for me to find.

On the flip side, the last time I did the whole "posting to say I've updated my desire index" thing, I included a link to my desire index post. The syntax looks like this:

[I updated my desire index you guys!](/post/72517)

I did this firstly to ease @Brannox 's burdens in maintaining this awesome thread idea (and perhaps I should have gone further and done

[I updated my desire index you guys!](/post/72517), paging Mr. @Brannox

so it would appear in his notifications!), and secondly because I decided not to quote my entire desire index this time, just my top 5. I assume most people aren't that interested in my mids and bottoms if they are presented without commentary.

Quoting all 22 entries also felt like I was adding "noise" to the thread, because I'm forcing other people to skip past it to read the conversations.

I'm in favor of option A, by the way: Edit original posts, preferably using a backlink to make Brannox's life easier, and leave it up to individuals to quote all or part of their updated list as they deem appropriate so that people don't have to create excess noise if they don't want to.

Edit: Also, with both option A and B I'm not 100% sure if adding an " @Brannox " to people's index updates would be more helpful than harmful, since it might actually produce an unmanageable flood of notifications. I was the one who brought up this idea, so I think it's important to also explicitly state that I will defer to the person who is actually going to be impacted by it.

I wish we had done B from the beginning to preserve a log of everyone's weekly desire changes, but we're so deep in now we might as well stick to A. I've been replying to my original post every time I update it lately, which means you can click the button on top of my "I updated" post next to the post time to jump to the original. Everyone could do that to make them easier to find?

The Allies are right. I hate change when it involves trivial things.

I think B is the better option if only because we're already making a post anyway to say we updated the original post, and either copy/pasting your older list or just doing it from scratch isn't that hard (the latter might even benefit in re-weighing the list with new additions or if you just have a change of heart between weeks.)

@musou-tensei I can't imagine Venom would totally no-show. Maybe he'd just be a secret boss or something if he's got no relation to the whole Sinister Six thing.

Could also end up DLC with the way games are these days.
