I was playing Mario Odyssey the other day. I was in the Luncheon Kingdom which looks like this: alt text

And I was just thinking about how something like this can basically just be made in Dreams. Shapes, the size, the verticality, the colours. I am not the creator type, but I played maybe 5 hours of 4 player co-op in LBP 2 on just one bomb survival type level a user uploaded. I am in it to play other peoples Dreams and when I see stuff like the screenshots you posted, I get even more excited and I rarely get excited for video games anymore. I'm honestly disappointed I haven't put Dreams higher on my Index.

Personally, I'm withholding a level of hype for Dreams until there's a better understanding of how the dreams themselves play, because making something look one way is very different than making something control in a satisfying manner. Maybe it would be super easy to recreate the Luncheon Kingdom in Dreams, but if your character controls like a floaty mess like LBP with only a basic jump move and you're constantly clipping into geometry and falling through the world, then that's nowhere near the same experience. Even if you can program in better moves and animations or meticulously pour over testing your level and fixing areas where bugs would interrupt the flow of gameplay within the limitations of the systems of Dreams, then how many users will actually take that much time to polish their creations to that degree?

  • @mbun

You're right, we won't know until we play it. However, Media Molecule has explained that animations can be fine tuned to very detailed degrees including weight and physics. I don't know how many people will go to the extreme of creating a detailed and fun to play level but I reckon that it is faster than making a mod or designing a game yourself which is why I foresee people making some really amazing things on the side or even having Patreon pages for developing Dreams.

Using LBP as a frame of reference, some of the most fun levels were not detailed and looked janky. I expect some fun but ugly levels to appear again in Dreams. All I can hope for is a demo in 2018.

I mean, you could always put it higher. :)

  • We’ve gotten to Update 5.3! There was not any movement in the top 5, but Resident Evil 2: Remake DID gain a lot of ground on Ghost of Tsushima, now only behind by 0.2, Red Dead Redemption 2 is behind Spiderman by the same amount, and Sekiro also has a 0.2 deficit.

Smash is able to get ahead of Control by 0.3, while Devil May Cry 5 is looking up at them by 0.4. Kingdom Hearts III is behind DMC 5 by 0.2, but ahead of The Last of Us Part II by 0.3. Speaking of which, it changes places with Death Stranding, and by a whole half point.

Dreams finds itself with an equal 0.2 distance on both sides; behind Halo: Infinite, but ahead of Babylon’s Fall. It also was a big winner of this update, gaining two spots and into the top 15.

Fallout 76 gets ahead of Forza Horizon 4 by 0.3, but Forza is an especially big loser, losing two spots.

Darksiders III and Shadow of the Tomb Raider switch places with Gears 5 not moving in between them. Gears 5 only has a 0.1 lead over Shadow as of now.

Anthem maintains a 0.2 lead over Pokemon Let’s Go, but Crackdown 3 falls two places and finds itself in the bottom three by a healthy margin.

Like Jones, I also have a game I'm planning on making. Doesn't look or play like anything they've showed off so far. I'm just waiting for the tools to be delivered.

Color me intrigued. I haven't been doing my homework keeping up with it. Is there any indication that there will be communities to join in-game? Sharing/playing with random people is great but it would be even better to be able to easily do so with EZA community people as well.

Unless I misheard, I think this is almost a given. No deets yet tho.

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII

I just went with all that were listed in the top post. Sorry if I missed any.

  • @jsackel Welcome! You shouldn't have missed any (and you didn't) as I make sure none are left out when everything is updated. Adding and calculating your list now!

  • I updated my list (post #5). Nothing broke through to my Top10.

  • Now’s the time for Update 5.4 and again: No top five movement. The only behind the scenes change was Resident Evil 2 isn’t close to Ghost of Tsushima. Instead, it’s only able to stave off Spiderman by 0.3.

While the top five is the same, there was a lot of change regarding the rest of the top 10. The first real change comes with Control, that jumps up two from 8th to 6th. It’s only ahead of Smash by a quarter of a point, but Smash leads The Last of Us Part II by 0.05. TLoU Pt. II was a big benefactor from this update, rising three places and back into the top 10 to 8th. Almost a half point down is Sekiro, but it wasn’t a good outing for it as it falls three and stops at 9th. What’s more, it’s 0.05 away from tying Kingdom Hearts III (which KH III would win that tie).

Because of all the crazy movement, Devil May Cry falls two and out of the top 10.

Dreams finds itself behind Dragon Quest XI by half a point and changing places with Halo: Infinite. Speaking of Halo, it’s ahead of a tie between Babylon’s Fall and Skull & Bones. Babylon’s Fall is able to take the lead off of a second highest desire. But it’s not all bad for Skull & Bones, as it finds itself with a two-place improvement.

Fallout 76 is barely able to get ahead of the tie between Forza Horizon 4 and Darksiders III by 0.1. Forza has a third highest desire, so it gets the better spot. If Fallout WERE to be in a three way tie, it would slot in the middle because it has one more sixth highest desire than Darksiders III.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider gets a significant jump on the Elder Scrolls VI, bypassing it by more than half a point in addition to the two spots it gains.

Finally, in the bottom three Team Sonic Racing and Crackdown 3 tied and TSR gets the nod for having a 9th highest desire over Crackdown’s 10th. Crackdown 3’s slide down the charts is pretty much complete. Again, Call of Duty: Black Ops IV mires in desire irrelevancy.

  • @Brannox If it's not too much trouble and you feel like it is a good idea, may I recommend adding to the list in the OP the number of times a game is #1 on someone's list. I'd really like to know the correlation between placement and how many top spots a game is getting, not to mention I think it's interesting to see how each game performs in terms of being someone's most wanted pick.

  • And Death Stranding slots in nicely behind Black Ops 4 at number 3.

    New Update

  • Update 5.5 is live! Resident Evil 2: Remake came out worse for wear, falling two spots, tying with The Last of Us Part II, and trails Red Dead Redemption 2 by half a point. It’s still able to stay in the top five though by having one more highest desire over TLoU Pt. II. That’s ok for TLoU Pt. II however, because it finds itself with a two spot improvement.

Sekiro and Smash are tied as well, and Sekiro is able to take a two spot improvement also by having a second highest desire. Devil May Cry 5 trails this tie by 0.1, being ANOTHER game that gains two spots and is able to return to the top 10.

Control was one of the biggest losers of this update, as it falls four spots. Yet, it stays in the top 10, but just barely, as it sits ahead of Death Stranding by 0.3. Speaking of which, Death Stranding and Kingdom Hearts III trade places, with the same amount of difference between them. Of course, with all kinds of games moving up two spots, KH III also had to move down two to compensate.

Dreams switches with Dragon Quest XI, and by a healthy margin too. The difference between KH III and Dreams is more than two points, reestablishing the defined groups that were present in previous versions.

The difference between Fallout 76 and Skull & Bones is just over a full point. Fallout is able to get ahead of Halo: Infinite by 0.1, completing its big move of three spots (the most in this update) and returning to the top 15. Forza Horzion, stays ahead of Darksiders III by 0.1, the same amount it has over Shadow of the Tomb Raider. That group of three all increase their place by two, and as a result, forces Babylon’s Fall and Skull & Bones to tie with Control in places lost: four. Not only that, but Babylon’s Fall now barely clings to a top 20 place, trailing Shadow by 0.2, while Skull & Bones who only trails Babylon’s Fall by that amount, falls out of the top 20 entirely.

@smoothrunes Because updates change drastically from version to version and many don't update their lists, what has more number 1s than another can always change. HOWEVER, for just this once, I decided to count them up while calculating for this update to give you a one time glimpse into how they shake out.

Listed below are the games that have number one desires. This is formatted with the game's place on the list, the game, and how many desires it has:

    1.) Cyber Punk 2077 (4)
    2.) Ghost of Tsushima (2)
    3.) Spiderman (1)
    5.) Resident Evil 2: Remake (4)
6.) The Last of Us Part II (3)
7.) Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (1)
    13.) Dreams (1)
    14.) Dragon Quest XI (1)

Notice how GoT and Spiderman have less top desires, and Red Dead doesn't even have ONE and yet they're above RE2: R? This is because many have those games near the top (but not AT the top) while for RE2: R, it resides near the bottom on a couple of lists. Also notice how Dreams and DQ XI are away from the top group. They are only just able to be at the top of the middle pack because of those highest desires, because as I touch on above, the difference between KH III and Dreams is enough to establish there is a top dozen, a middle ten, and a bottom six or seven. And despite having a top desire for each, many (but certainly not all) here are middle of the road whereas something like Spiderman resides in many people's top five. I hope this was the kind of thing you were looking for

@bard91 You did update correctly, however, I did write down the three games, WITH a spoiler tag for those that didn't want to know ahead of the podcast, about sixty posts up from this point. Also, the EZA Desire Index over in the "Shows" subforum was updated twice. You don't have to rewatch the podcast if you don't want to, but the resources are provided on Wednesday evenings if not Thursday mornings, so if you update and are missing anything, then that's on you to take a few seconds to search not only this thread, but the other one as well.

  • Im going to only rank the games I know something about, there are a few I havent heard much of so they'll sit at the bottom and Im gonna take a slightly different approach than them, Im going to rank them in terms of if I could have the completed game today and honestly after 10 I really don’t have much interest, maybe Spiderman based on who is making it and RE2 if you can walk and shoot and is actually fun to control, and poor controls aren’t put in to make it more tense

    1. Elder Scrolls VI
    2. Cyberpunk 2077
    3. Kingdom Hearts 3
    4. Red Dead Redemption 2
    5. Dragon Quest XI
    6. Crackdown 3 (I still have some hope for some reason)

    Games I know nothing about
    Ghost of Tsushima
    Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
    Babylon's Fall
    Skull & Bones

  • @Brannox Alright, thanks for the handy info. For some reason I didn't get a notification about your response so I almost missed it since I tend to not revisit the thread until the next update comes along.
