Censorship topic (out of the news thread)

  • A female bum in an 18+ game, clearly a cause for concern.

  • @sheria
It clear is, based on the response to its removal.

I find the discussion on making such a change is something very different, but that's me. I don't think the minor details on what exactly has been "lost" in this individual case is really their concern.

Sony Computer Entertainment got so pretentious after moving their headquarters to Cali. I miss the good old days, when they didn't bat an eye at sex (God of War).

I don't get why anyone would find it inappropriate or problematic in the first place, regardless of where you are in the world. It's all just bat shit crazy...

The inclusion and the alteration of the content aren't issues worth concerning myself with.

  • @hanabi Did they just Chinese Winnie the Pooh her butt?

I'd agree with you on isolated cases, but every day at the moment I open my browser, newspaper or turn on the TV to see a new, ridiculous case of how 'snowflake' we've become. Appealing to the overly-sensitive minority really has become a problem, and it encompasses much more than just this case here.

Let's face facts: somewhere, someone/some people have issues with seeing a bare bum in a game, and instead of shrugging it off as the silly non-issue it is, Sony are siding with it and actually taking it onboard.

The inclusions and alteration of content in video games isn't really worth it to me either, it's just that I see a much bigger picture here.

The worst thing is that most people don't care. Some act like you're perverted for wanting bums in games and tell you to watch porn instead. Comments like this:

"It is pathetic that you guys care for a censored butt. Go watch porn or something instead."

"Lol only creepy pervs care about this. Oh no! They blurred out a digital butt! Boooo bad guy Soyny! Lol"

    Gamers are really immature.

Unfortunately, some people are very shortsighted, you notice it immediately when they start calling you a paedophile, perverted, an incel, nazi or manchild. Thankfully they're so easy to spot.

  • So weird, I can only imagine they are doing this for consistency sake, likely the first example I see where I can't justify it in any way.

It is something so insignificant and that has so little weight that it is just difficult to understand what could be the rationale for it, that said it is at the same time something so miniscule that it won't really have an effect on the game.

Everyone knows that, it's not the point though.

Loving the huge amounts of projecting going on in this thread.

Apparently that light is controlled by a graphic setting called "flare" that can be turned on or off.

Either way, eh, not too miffed about it. If I need to see a bum, there are platforms I can do that on.
Vote with your dollars instead of pretending this is an ethics issue.

I have actually picked it up on Xbox One in this case, though I have the rest of the series on Playstation. It is an ethical issue though, so where exactly is the pretending?

  • Funny how that image mentions uncensored Raiden butt in MGS2 but fails to bring up the very censored ass of Johnny in MGS1 when you take his uniform.

The censorship of a single butt is not a hill I'm willing to die on, personally. I do imagine the hill is shaped similar to the one found in Sir Mix-a-lot's music video though.

Not on the consoles. The only way you can disable it on the PS4 is by uninstalling the game and playing it without any patches or network support. Now that I think about it, the fact that they sneaked this onto a day one patch, making it unknown to reviewers who might have affected the early sales (even a little bit) makes it even worse.

I don't really see any reason to care. I don't belief the doom and gloom projections people are so fond of. This isn't the attack on freedom of speech on the integrity of the medium.

  • I think a lot of people see stories like this and write it off as one random butt getting censored and decide it's not a big deal worth caring about, but the way I see it and the way I think a lot of other people see it is that it's a piece in a large puzzle. There's clearly a trend going on lately, with Sony in particular. I've seen a lot more stories than I post here. I don't know, honestly I thought the medium matured enough by this point that games clearly aimed at adults didn't have to go through the same censorship practices that plagued children's games on the NES back in the 80's and 90's.

  • @hanabi This isn't only censored on PS4
