Mysterious Monsters - Official Discussion Thread

  • I've been watching it for like three times already, it's so damn good. I'm not a fan of game shows but this really got me hooked. Huber is absolutely amazing as the host, and I imagine he only gets better. It's already my favorite piece of EZA content.

  • I loved this official Ep 1. Its a joy. I'm sooooo happy they just went ahead and did it. This show is a prime opportunity to get guests from the industry onto the Easy Allies platform and generate new fans. For example, Corey Barlog could have done this if the studio was around when he visited. He did a million spoiler talks about God of War (EZA, IGN, Kotaku, just to name a few all had spoiler talks with him) BUT I bet EZA would be the only one to have him on a game show.

I posted some criticism on Patreon but I never know with that comment section. Maybe it'll be heard and seen here event though I'm not sure if the Allies use this forum more than once a year.

Two suggestions - 1) A LOT Less US history, maybe more games or related stuff 2) what if the contestants were sometimes a character? A Vampire, Werewolf, Cold Blooded, Ultima Brad?

  • This is easily my favorite feature on Easy Allies currently. I cannot wait for the next episode! Thank you to everyone involved getting Mysterious Monsters rolling.

Ian kills me as the wizard. Way to embrace the role!

I think this was my favourite episode yet, the competition was really even between all three. Friendly vibes as well, and just generally good thinking.

  • Same here, it's also my favorite so far. The contestants got a really good chemistry, and it just so happens that they kept a pretty equal footing from the middle to end which makes it way more entertaining.

Also, I'm excited for next episode's patch notes.

  • Loved the most recent ep. I think the biggest and easiest change they should make is to add lower thirds during the contestants' introductions that includes full name, twitter handle, and their position/what they're known for. Will be especially helpful for guests. Eg:

    Ben Moore
    Easy Allies

  • I am so excited for this next episode.

  • An hour long show between the three women. Loved that Naruto moment. :D

  • I posted some feedback about the show to youtube, but it makes more sense to discuss it here I guess:

I have a thought on how to improve the show by changing how "analyze" works. What do we think about this:

    1. Make it so the damage values for all the questions are always displayed for all contestants, but they are displayed underneath the monster in no particular order (so no one knows which question is '8 hp' or whatever).
    2. The "analyze" ability now just means that contestant has the power to say "I want to target the 8 hp body part" (or any value they pick)
    3. If the contestant doesn't have analyze, everything stays as before: the contestant says "I want to target the left hand" and it would still reveal the hp value underneath.

This removes the need for the game to stop for contestants to cover their faces. And even if no one has analyze, knowing when a person happened to pick the most difficult question is a fun little detail to show.

  • Doing it that way removes a significant (dare I say the paramount) statistical advantage of analyze though. Being able to see if a monster is defeatable or not with the remaining hit points on the board.

  • @tokyoslim I guess so, although I never thought it was that significant. I think the players already have a basic sense how killable a monster is based on "feel". If someone was taking into account that level of strategy then they probably won't get definitive information until very late into an especially bungled category.

Anyway, even if there are a few instances per game like that were the strategy is changed, one also has to consider that "Analyze" only costs a mere 10 gold but it isn't often used with the current system. Depending on the category, being able to avoid a "1 point" question and/or avoid the 8 point question is often worth much more than paying 10 gold once. Maybe players would use it more (and get more questions right) if it didn't stop the game.

  • Kyle is the most entertaining contestant yet.

  • Here's a very neat surprise!

  • It was super fun, short and sweet.

I found myself surprisingly rooting for Google and

was super pissed when Siri stole the win at the end!
