The EZA Community Top 25 Best of 2018!

Heavy Rain was actually thier second attempt at that style of game, Indigo Prophecy being the first.
Unless you count David Bowie simulator Omikron

@dmcmaster I know. Was their first in the three game contract with Sony though.
Also, anybody remember the "evil wizard" demo they did years ago? I wish that something would have come of that. The comedy in those shorts were on point. Would love to see QD do something a little more light hearted than the SUPER SERIOUS DRAMA YOU WILL FEEL ALL THE FEELS stuff they've been known for.

Try Tales from the Borderlands. It's one of the best Telltale games (my favorite actually) and it's very funny.

Im gonna be honest Detroit just didn't grab me like I was hoping it would, in fact I think its the only QD game that had a moment that not only sucked me out completely from the game, but also made me fall out of my chair in laughter

  • I really enjoyed my time with Detroit. A good story and interesting characters, one that I hope to return to sometime soon for another play through. It's not as good as Fahrenheit though.

@ffff0 Oh you don't need to tell me about the absolute majesty of Tales from the Borderlands. That was by far my favorite Telltale game until Guardians went and knocked it down. The opening of episode 5 still gives me goose pimples.

  • Return of the Obra Dinn looks really rad, but the thing about the game that stops me from playing it is platform: I don't game on PC. I hope it'll get a console release, because this looks like something I could just set a day aside and sink my teeth into it.

  • @brannox
could of sworn it got a PS4 release

@dmcmaster Could have sworn the same, but a cursory glance at the PS Store proves otherwise.

    EZA Review

  • I feel like VC4 is going to be stuck on my backlog for the next ten years (hell I've never even finished VC1 now that I think about it) but I've always wanted to play it, so there's that I guess.

  • Ah, another game that i missed out on. I only played the VC2 on the PSP (which i loved), so my exposure to the series is quite limited, but i do enjoy the series' take on strategy combat so I want to play another game in the series. I don't know whether I should try this or VC1 first though.

  • @hanabi Same. I ended up not getting it because my AC broke near the end of last year, but seeing how quickly it went on sale made me feel bad for not supporting it at launch. Now I'm already drowning in games this year and don't know when I'll ever be able to get back to it. Played and loved the demo though. Probably should've tossed it an honorable mention just for how much I enjoyed that short time with it, but there was other stuff I wanted to recognize that I think isn't making the countdown. Oh well. I'll get to you one day VC4.

  • Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the only game I have played in the series. It's turn-based style combat felt unique and the characters grew on me over time. I would have ranked it higher but I ran into too many bugs. My tank would get stuck on geometry or I would shoot an invisible wall. Which can be frustrating because VC4 is the type of game were one turn can decide the outcome. Despite the bugs. It's a fun game worthy of an honorable mention.

  • Woah, I was getting worried that Valkyria Chronicles 4 wouldn't make the cut, big shoutout to everyone who voted for it! The series have one of the best war stories out there. The story and characters in VC4 are amazing, the gameplay is so satisfying. I've seen people complaining about it's too similar to 1, but I don't mind it at all because this is just how VC is supposed to be, I'm looking at you Revolution!
Sadly this is just an honorable mention for me, because there were other titles I enjoyed a bit more. It's a shame this game didn't get enough recognition in sales. I hope everyone will give this series a try in the future, you wont regret it!

  • Moment bard91 said it was their GOTY I knew it was in. Pleased it made into Top 10.
I love how they made maps bigger and more fun it extra mechanics though lancers are pretty much useless now since grenadiers are much better and tanks only use one CP. Outside of story it improved from the previous games. I did like VC2 for it's branching classes and relationships in that but they did good here too with sidestories. Would have loved to have more maps with variations or weather affecting the map. Hard skirmishes are pretty brutal. Maxed out levels and still got downed in seconds so "taking the hits to make the play" is not advised.

  • WOOOOO!!!!

I was not expecting a top 10 spot, but obviously I'm very glad to see it this high.

The game is too similar to the original.

    I don't care

    It it kinda janky.

    I don't care

The enemy AI is pretty bad

    I don't care

You can cheat your way around most missions

    I don't care

The tone of the game is not consistent.

    I don't care

After a decade from the release of the first game, and the failure that was the spinoff I thought the series was forever dead, I'm so glad it got at least one more chance, and if anything the fact that it is similar to the original is a testament to me of how good VC was to begin with. Yes there are a ton of nit picks you could apply to the game, and there are clear areas of improvement but nothing else hits the tone VC does, also glad to see it above the other JRPGs of the year where I think it rightfully belongs.

  • I've already been on record elsewhere I don't care for Strategy games, so Valkyria Chronicles 4 never could appeal to me. While I do like some parts of the art style, that's really the only aspect about the game I seem to vibe with.

  • This one slipped through the cracks for me, it looks like something I'd enjoy very much but there's always another game, always something else that takes priority. I hope I find the time to get to it one day!

  • Sadly only did the first handful of missions before work schedule killed my sleep time , think the last thing that happened in VC4 was getting the dog.
I am thinking of buying it again on Switch at some point so I'll probably jump into it again then.
