The EZA Community Top 20 Best of 2013!

  • @capnbobamous I honestly have zero recollection of that, but thinking about it I really don't remember much at all about the story of Origins.

  • Also a shout out for Arkham Origins Black gate, great metroidvania game for the Vita/3DS.

  • SteamWorld Dig is one of those games I didn't hear about until years later and I think it's pretty unique each SteamWorld so far has been a different genre. With the recent Quest released, I'm sure Dig got a few replays and new players. The concept of robots with personality working as miners is a fun one, but judging from what I've seen/heard, this isn't for me. And I can now feel the disappointment from Huber.

  • I'm so happy the SteamWorld series exists. I've had a lot of fun with every one of those games.

  • I think all of the SteamWorld games are great, and Dig is no exception. All of them are just the right length with satisfying progression. As a side note I don't think I played SteamWorld Dig until 2016. Rusty or Dorothy for Smash!

  • While it didn’t make my top 8, I really enjoyed Arkham Origins, despite its terrible launch state, including some incredibly obvious game breaking bugs that softlocked the game. I think thematically and narratively it makes a better trilogy with Asylum and City than Knight does.

Whoops... I've let this topic slip by me.

Some really good games so far. DmC and Metro Last Light didn't make my 8 but I had a great time with both, in particular Last Light. I just loved going outside and having to think about your mask in terms of air and damage an it absolutely nails the atmosphere. Really need to check out Exodus someday.

Rogue Legacy is a phenomenal game. I put so many hours into that on Vita. For me, only Dead Cells has come close to that same experience but I think I prefer Rogue Legacy as it's a lot more open. Also this song is just so good from the game.

I really need to check out the second game that studio made that flopped.

Arkham Origins is probably my favourite of the Arkham series. I was fortunate enough to dodge the vast majority of bugs people so that never came into it for me. I loved the concept of it and I thought it was an excellent origin story for the relationship between Joker and Batman. Troy Baker absolutely nails it. This game was pretty much a huge reason why Knight was a big disappointment in terms of bosses. The step down was just huge.

Also I always remembered this TV Spot for it and thought it just totally nails what Batman stands.

  • @tokeeffe9 fun fact, the TV spot was directed by the same person who directed Deadpool

  • RIP to my favourite Telltale game, season 2 never came.

  • I really need to get through my Telltale backlog. I have almost all their games, but only ever finished Borderlands.

  • What a bittersweet moment to see TWAU now and remember what we almost had, the Season 2 I mean. Nevertheless, what we DID have is a really cool setting with some truly fascinating characters. What an impressing combination of everything, the fairy tales and noir crime story. And the opening intro to every episode is a freaking thing of beauty. Short but fine as hell.

  • Gone Home was a pretty easy GOTY for me that year. It may be short, but I still must have spent a good 6 or more hours hunting down everything in that house. This wasn't just a case of finding hidden notes; just about everything you can look at is so intentionally placed that it helps build a bigger picture. While I can understand that to some, that the final picture might not seem like much at all, for me, all of the intimate details of a flawed, yet still very normal family living in the 90's had a huge impact and the core narrative of a blossoming lesbian relationship hit the heartstrings hard, thanks especially to the great voice acting and excellent music. The soundtrack came with the physical PC version and I listen to it often.

  • The Wolf Among Us was probably the first runner up honorable mention for me. Didn't quite make the list tho. Still a good game.

  • I'll always remember when they had to massively delay episode 2 of the Wolf Among Us because something like 90% of the playtesters correctly guessed who the murderer was.

I really really enjoyed the Wolf Among Us, anticipated every episode and played on Day 1. Great tone.

  • While I never have been interested in Telltale style games, seeing the collapse of the studio and subsequently, the cancellation for Season 2 of TWAU was painful. Because of how things turned out, I can't look at anything about this game without thinking of what could be. IP ownership is aggravating when studios close because these games deserve new life, but legalities being what they are, this is all we'll get of this franchise. And that sucks.

  • Without exaggerating even a little bit, I think Papers Please is among the 10 best games I've ever played, and it is one of the very few games I can feel could be called perfect.
