E3 2019 Hopes and Dreams

  • I'll start off with my big dreams (EA/Sony) then go smaller:

    EA Play:

    • Fight Night Champion 2 revolutionizes the sports genre with an extremely fun to play boxing sim that is robust enough to do a deep dive but fun enough to entice the greater market.

    • VR and motion control is heavily integrated into the DNA of this game. Hardcore kind of sim where you can technically block punches by putting hands up and down. Proper jabs, crosses, hooks, etc are thrown. Combos are based on skill. You are essentially shadow boxing 1:1

    • Skate 4 with key members from EA Blackbox at the helm.

    • A mixture between modern skateboarding and skateboarding from the past. For example, major competition skating as well as getting clips for the gram. Then skating per the older eras like filming for a major video part.

    • Filming is a huge part of the game. You essentially can make and share skate videos.

    • Open connected world like Skate 1 and 2.

    • Music from all eras of skate videos.

    • Extremely good animations and physics. Speed, weight, momentum etc all matter.

    • RPG-like stats to develop drastically different styles of skating (character builds essentially).

    Sony (State of Play):

    • SOCOM US Navy Seals rebooted. This has been a dream of mine since the PS3 was announced. All we have been asking for for years was to play SOCOM II in HD. It won't happen. What can happen is a series reboot. Tactical shooters died but are having a niche comeback with the success of R6 Siege and to an extent, you can consider the Battle Royal genre tactical too.

    • Asymmetrical multiplayer maps. Terrorists vs Seals with different loadouts and uniforms.

    • Maps are catered to a specific game mode (i.e. Extraction missions only on this map)

    • Hardcore SP stealth gameplay like SOCOM II but with a cinematic hollywood style story like SOCOM 3.

    • Open ended level design based on assassinations like a militaristic version of Hitman.

    • Gran Turismo 7 is a PlayStation 5 launch title.

    • 4K @ 60fps with VR in every mode and is just as viable as gamepad, or first person with the wheel. VR is the new meta for the racing sim set-up.

    • Warhawk reboot is a mixture between Warhawk (2007) and modern sensibilities.

    • Destruction like Battlefield with plenty of vehicles (air, land, sea)

    • Weapon pickups like WH 2007 and Fortnite.

    • CTF, Conquest, and Battle Royal modes are the main three.

    • Halo Infinite is a return to the MP arena shooter of Halo 1-3. NO LOADOUTS, NO WEIRD ARMOUR ABILITIES, NO PERKS.

    • My dream trailer has not only gameplay but the multiplayer lobby. Social Slayer playlist with 4 -player split screen. Vote on a map. Everybody sprints to get the energy sword or rocket launcher.

    • No weird post game "look at my cool character" bullshit with bad dialogue (Halo 5, BO4, Apex, etc etc). Everybody is red vs blue, nobody looks like they spent $237 on cosmetic armour.

    • Xbox and PC day 1

    • Cyberpunk 2077 shows more world building, more exploring, and really shows the scale of this world.

    • The game is fully open world and can be a direct competitor to The Elder Scrolls in terms of open world adventure RPG. We need to really see the polish here.

    • They acknowledge they need to change direction within their internally developed IPs. Fallout and The Elder Scrolls need to be in good hands and they acknowledge that improvements need to be made. Honesty from them isn't so much of a dream as I feel it is required for me to get excited about anything they make going forward.

    • The Evil Within 3 announced and is not open world.

    • Splinter Cell reboot is a pure stealth game. It doesn't need to hold any of the things we come to expect from Splinter Cell, I just want a pure stealth game.
    • IF there is an MP component, it is tactical and team based.

  • @dipset
I love the idea of Fight Night returning. I'm a huge combat sports fan so I'm glad they took a swing at UFC but they have squeezed that game enough. As someone who has PSVR and MoCap Boxing is easily one of my favorite Arcade games (that game is a serious work out, I read a forum post where this ladies husband died from exhaustion after playing) I don't know if going that route is best. I'd be happy with just a straight up sequel to FN Champion (story mode included).

  • Banned

@dipset I almost want to make another bet with you about Halo...
It will be an MMOlite. Like straight up difficult to differentiate from Destiny.

  • Some announcements that would be cool:

    Resident Evil 3 Remake
    Armored Core 6

  • @el-shmiablo

I wouldn't even bet against you on that but I wouldn't even bat an eye at Halo if that's they direction the go. Halo Reach to Halo 5 were all super trend-hoppy in their own way and never felt like anything unique, memorable, or even particularly great. They'd be dragging this legendary franchise through the mud and throwing it whatever direction the wind blows if Halo goes MMOlite. Then again, M$$$.

I mean... I'd be happy with a straight up FN Champion 2 with no extra stuff. Anything to get EA Canada to stop making those horrible UFC games. They are so incredibly un-fun to play. But with that said, I don't see how VR boxing is any different than actual exercise. Hit us with a good ol disclaimer before the game starts: "If you haven't been to the gym in 2 decades, get somebody on standby to drive you to the hospital cause this game won't be fun."

My whole point is that I feel like boxing can translate as well into the sim genre as racing already has. Block the body shot, step in, counter with a mean left uppercut to the ribs. It all seems possible with VR and motion control.

@dipset This is why I am such a big supporter of VR and hope that Sony goes all in with it next gen with some built into the controllers motion control type stuff.
Full control. Even years ago I remember watching videos of VR modded into HL2 that just added so much more depth to the gameplay with stuff like omni directional aiming, throwing grenades behind your back or rolling them into a room, firing from behind cover with realistic peeking.

  • @dipset I think boxing VR can be very enjoyable (like I mentioned MoCap Boxing is my prime example and one of my fav arcade games) but if EA is going back to Fight Night, as I hope they will, I'd prefer a non VR game to a VR game if we can only have one. My personal preference is why not both? Give us Champions 2 but include a VR mode or the ability to play the game in VR. There's also a number of Boxing VR games already, have you tried Creed? I've been tempted to check it out but haven't pulled the trigger. I am slightly concerned about ducking and weaving quickly while wearing the vr headset.

  • Give me Conkers Bad Day 2, a PROPER Banjo Kazooie platforming sequel, SOMETHING tangible for Beyond Good and Evil 2, and a sequel to Criterion's Black, and all of my dreams will come true.

  • Gotta make some bingo cards soon.
But in the meantime some small stuff
Next 2 DLC characters for Smash shown, one will be a Microsoft rep
Mario 64 visuals for Super Mario Maker 2 (we'll find out soon)
    Next project from Monolith announced.
    Bayo 3 re-revealed.
At least 5 Wii U ports announced (Money on Mario 3D World, both HD Zelda's, Wonderful 101 and Fatal Frame)
At least 2 Wii ports announced (Metroid Prime trilogy and Skyward Sword)
Psychonauts 2 coming to Switch, includes new port of the 1st game as pre order bonus.

  • @dmcmaster Of all those I'm most excited to hear who else is coming to Smash. If they are gonna pull from Microsoft its got to be banjo right, maybe Steve from Minecraft. I'd be a little surprised if it was master chief.

  • @themarcv or Conker?

  • Sony (if no State of play is announced by E3 hold till next one)
Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us2 and Death Stranding will be cross gen launch titles on PS5 (but you'll only have to buy them once)
Blue point project is a MGS 3 remake with Kojimas blessing.
New Crash+Spyro game announced via Sony
Resident Evil Revelations 3 announced, takes place between 6 and 7. Stars Billy
Dragons Dogma 2 announced, more at TGS.
Onimusha 5/Reboot announced more at TGS

Gears Tactics no longer a mobile game, out immediately for those with Game Pass, available for Pre order for everyone else.
At least 2 projects from thier recently acquired studios shown.
Smash rep teased at Microsoft's show, more from Nintendo on Tuesday (Banjo or Master Chief)
    Forza 8 shown.
Halo Infinite is Destiny with a split screen option.
Gears 5 will make big deal about Anya returning (surprise)
    Cup head DLC out now

    (Saved for more)

    Holy Hell not happening
Tony Hawk Collection containing everything from THPS1 thru Proving Ground, huge online mode functions like Halo MMC (can switch between games round to round)
Burnout Collection containing Burnout 1 thru Dominator

  • @e_zed_eh_intern Conker would be PERFECT for smash. He could use the frying pan as his smash attack!

  • Metroid Prime 4
    Pikmin 4

  • @yoshi I like this.

I would also like some more on Cyberpunk.

I will also add dreams of Super Metroid Remake and Super Mario Kart All-Stars (1-8) with 4-player Super Mario Kart.

    Also Final Fight 4.

  • I personally would like to see an identical to Xbox Game Pass service for Sony and Nintendo. For the past few months I was exploring Xbox Game Pass library and after playing so many great games for the price of one title it’s really hard for me now to justify buying games individually. I haven’t even turned on my PS4 and Switch this year and I wish it to be otherwise.

The reason this would never happen more than anything sadly is just music licensing. At best, all I could see them doing to fix this is creating one larger new library of music that you use throughout all the games in the collection and trying to snatch up a couple of the most memorable songs from the original soundtracks of each game for it. Because it just wouldn't feel like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater without Superman by Goldfinger.

@ffff0 Can't see Nintendo ever doing this with their first party games (unless you count super old ones like NES Online), but what could be super cool on the Switch is something like this with a ton of indie games offered. I find myself being interested in trying out lots of the ones I see on the eShop, but not enough to actually pull the trigger on buying them unless they go on sale. There's some 5+ year old indie game ports on there too that wouldn't suffer a massive sales dip to lend themselves to this sort of service where more people could discover them.

@yoshi Give zero fucks about Pikmin, but would lose my mother fucking mind if the other two happen.
