Forum Charter: Read before posting!

  • @Nillend That's like saying don't come to this forum.

  • @Whoaness I'm saying that you don't need to be a part of threads that you're not interested into.

  • @Nillend And what I said was if a majority on this forum plays forum games and makes list threads, that's just telling me not be a part of any thread.

I already have non-gaming on ignore, and I requested the separation of gaming and non-gaming just to filter out a lot of the noise, but now the noise just came back in another form. Maybe that's how it is and I'll ignore gaming as well. We'll see.

  • The forums are still a very new thing so we'll see what people like and what works best for everyone.

As is said in the charter, we'll be pretty lenient on how list threads work.

Personally I'm fine with the 'forum game' threads and list threads but I always like a comment. It doesn't need to be a highly articulated essay.

If nothing else it adds a bit of personality to the poster.

@Nillend And what I said was if a majority on this forum plays forum games and makes list threads, that's just telling me not be a part of any thread.

So you rather have a less active forum as long more threads are to your liking?

I wouldn't mind a Forum Game Section though of course (which you could completely ignore then and shouldn't bother you in the slightest), many forums have that.
To me personally though sections are irrelevant, my bookmark to this forum is the Unread Threads page which lists me all threads that got new content since my last visit including new threads, that is always my prefered method to browse a forum. And once I read everything that interested me I mark the whole forum as read.

  • @Musou-Tensei Activity is irrelevant to me if it's about forum games. I'd like discussion about games, not forum games.

For example, I didn't like I Am Setsuna, but there was no place to discuss it here as no one made a discussion. I had to engage in discussion on EZA twitch chat and other forums. I Am Setsuna is a hyped release for EZA, since a lot of them are hyped for it, but no one seems to care to make a thread even related to I Am Setsuna.

  • @Whoaness Then why didn't you made an I Am Setsuna thread yourself?

  • @Musou-Tensei I'd say that's probably best reserved for someone who has more positive things to say about it, you know? It probably wouldn't be the best for someone who didn't like a game to start a thread about it, especially in a community where that game's been actively hyped up for a bit (and considering that, I'm surprised nobody made a good thread for it either). Starting out a thread with the negative and having other users instantly arguing against the main post probably wouldn't be the most positive way to start a topic about a game, as opposed to vice-versa.

  • Whether it be positive or negative, if you want to discuss something, make the thread for people to discuss it.

  • @tokeeffe9 Hear, hear!

  • Kill Your Babies... I cri everytim.

  • @Musou-Tensei Because I wasn't that invest in the game to care about making a thread.
I did make one for Zero Time Dilemma and semi-trashed it because Zero Escape is so cool.

And it's also very demoralizing to see a thread I put effort in just get buried around list threads and forum games, so I'm at the point where I'm not making threads for the sake of getting discussion. Just only for what I'm interested in making discussion for.

  • @Whoaness you seem to be making an issue of something that can't really be helped. You say you were 'forced' to discuss about I am Setsuna on twitch and in other forums yet at the same time you weren't interested enough to make a thread on it.

I'll take your feedback on list threads and forum game threads however at this moment I really don't see it as an issue. From looking at the gaming discussion sub forum, the ratio of list thread/forum game threads to other threads is very small. If it becomes out of hand, we will certainly intervene.

  • @tokeeffe9 Yes, I do feel like I would be forced off the forum if there are no good discussions to be had about the game currently coming out.

The Allies were super hyping up I Am Setsuna, so it was surprising no one wanted to discuss it. I could make the thread, but, at this point, we see no one else is going to bother making it either meaning no one wants to discuss about it. So why bother?

There are some good threads here and there, but so many things to filter through to find them. That's why I suggested (in the feedback forum) making it a standard to use Tags to help filter out discussion threads on new games. I'm a worst case scenario kind of person, so I definitely want the community to shape up to be more than a bunch of "what's your favourite something" and "kill your babies". Just putting my 2 cents out there on what I see.

  • @Whoaness I feel like you would love The Escapist's forum, it's pretty much the opposite of this forum, and I despise it.

  • @Whoaness I guess if you have the attitude of why bother making a thread, other people do too. The forums are what we make them and I do genuinely suggest you make the threads you want.

I'll reiterate again that we're in really early days as a forum. I don't think it's any surprise seeing people make the more generic threads since it's an easy way to get to know other posters tastes etc.

On top of that, we're currently in the 'drought' season for the AAA game. While I am Setsuna was hyped by some of the EZA crew, it is still a relatively niche game which has received okay to good reviews. Once No Man Sky's comes out and therefore starts the AAA conveyor built, you'll see a lot more threads on specific games.

Just be a little patient and as I said, you have to make the forums what you want and not hope someone else does.

  • I have a rule suggestion:

I think threads about rumors should be always labeled as such in the thread title.

  • @Musou-Tensei I think thats an excellent idea myself as it stops the flow of misinformation and miscommunication across the community. We can discuss further as this being part of the charter.

I realize it's been a few months, but the EZA website is still pretty new, so some of that perceived "disinterest" from the community is partially a lack of activity across the boards as a whole. The EZA fan community right now is split up across a number of websites and platforms and it's going to be a slow going process to attract allies from other established locations.

Right now I ask that you please be patient with how things are running, as we want to foster a space where as many people as possible can come on, have a good time and discuss what they would like to.

  • @Musou-Tensei Nice idea, I've added it to the charter, even including US spelling.. I'm sorry fellow Europeans :(

Also it's worth noting that tags work really well on the site. I used them for the LTTP threads I made. We won't force people to use them, but I think they're pretty useful for something like that or rumors etc..
