Bend the Knee to China
-
Hello fellow gamers. How would you like to know that you could be banned and lose your prize money and freedom of speech. All because you supported and wanted people to be able to democracy and rights. There's one problem the company that makes the products that are being sold in said country for example China Are willing to do what ever the authoritarian country says.
The problem is Blizzard are not the only ones to give in. How far will China's reach go ?
A little South Park anyone ?
-
That South Park episode was way too good. And then they removed South Park entirely from the Chinese Internet in real life. Can't make this up.
-
Brought this up in the news thread but I guess it got buried under all the PS5 stuff so I guess it fits in here:
@hanabi said in That's News!:
Definitely on the line between gaming news and political news but I think it's worth bringing up

I have a friend who isn't a big gamer but a life long Blizzard / StarCraft fan and he's officially turned his back on the company and won't support them anymore because of this. I absolutely think it was the wrong move by Blizzard. I understand that they want to keep their business in China booming, but this type of conflicting ideology will happen more and more as the world globalizes. We need to learn to get along by agreeing that we disagree on things.

When's Blizzcon again?, got a feeling it's gonna be real fun.
Edit
November 1st-3rd apparently, so might blow over by then considering how long internet outrage typically last, but if it doesn't I expect every Q&A panel to be hilarious.
-
It's seems a lot of people are stepping away from Blizzard.
We will see how this plays in the long run.
-
People should show up at Blizzcon cosplaying Winnie the Pooh with banners supporting HK freedom.
I wonder what the chinese Activision-Blizzard will say about it.
-
@gageblackw23 I'm pretty sure anybody outright cosplaying as him wouldn't be allowed in. Wearing a Pooh shirt under your regular clothes and sneaking that in though...
Nevermind someone pulling an "out of season april fools joke" and being the hero of any given Q&A.
-
Major NEWS websites are picking this story up. If it keeps getting eye balls on it can do some major damage to them and any other company that cares more about the mighty $$$ than basic freedoms.
BLIZZCON will be very interesting to watch this year, or people will just boycott them. Not too sure myself.
-
Apparently some US lawmakers are commenting on the whole Blizzard thing (not haven't watched video yet)
Youtube Video

It's even on major NEWS. Just give it look. I know some people may not like the conservative side but give the video a chance. He makes some good points.
-
So with people making memes of Mei being pro HK, what are the odds Overwatch gets banned in China?
-
So not to distract from Blizzard completely, but thing's just took a very, very strange turn

@dmcmaster I'm sorry but video was weird and a long about way pointless. So the CEO might have known old dead Jeff. Does it make you look bad oh for sure, but I don't think we can say for 100% sure just because you know someone that makes you guilty in any crimes that other person maybe doing, but also doesn't mean they shouldn't be looking into if you may or not knowledge of said crimes.
Jeff also was friends with Bill Gates and his wife. There's pictures of them staying at Jeff's French home. Does that mean anything ? Not sure.

I'll try and find the link again but add Riot games to the list.
-
Apparently Blizzard is preventing people from deleting thier Blizzard accounts, discussion is getting people banned for a thousand years
