Tackle the Backlog - 12 in 12 2020



  • So like last year the idea is simply to propose a list of games from your backlog to look play this year as a sort of motivation for helping clearing stuff out.

    That said this is completely free form, I'm doing 24 in my list with little hope of actually beating all of them, and I'm adding games releasing this year (or hoping that release this year) as there's a lot coming out that will take a lot of time and there's no way I'm skipping, so feel free to add whatever best fits your situation, be it old or new games.

  • @bard91 I think you may have a typo on #11 but I'm assuming you're talking about Saga and not Devil Survivor. Or you could just do both!!

  • Alright let's do this!

    A few returning games from last year's challenge, a few 2019 games that slipped through the cracks, and others I've been meaning to knock out for a while.

    • Devil May Cry 5 (PS4): Barely started it last year before being swept by Fire Emblem and other games I was more excited for.
    • Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
    • The Talos Principle: Deluxe Edition (PS4): After The Witness last year, I'll play this one when I get the urge to feel stupid.
    • Resident Evil HD Remaster
    • Final Fantasy VIII Remastered
    • Mystic Quest
    • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U): Never finished it back in the day on GameCube (stopped at the map pieces). Should be fun to revisit before BotW 2 shows up.
    • The Wonderful 101 (Wii U): Second chance for this one, I really really need to play it before it's ported to Switch or gets a sequel.
    • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
    • Shovel Knight: King of Cards (Wii U): I should be excited for a brand new Shovel Knight but I still haven't touched it, gotta finish Yooka-Laylee first.
    • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (3DS): Finished Oracle of Ages a while back, so I'll make good use of that password for the second game.
    • Beyond Good & Evil (uPlay): Just a classic I owe to myself to play.

  • I am terrible at finishing games. I just get easily distracted.
    So I think this year my resolution will actually be to finish some. Probably not one a month, but I'm hoping to finish at least six.

    Old games i started and havent finished that are on the docket are:

  • Started Alundra!!...and wasn't feeling it. Not sure if I will delete it just yet. Have since started Persona Q. It was tough to finally open my premium edition copy but I'm glad I did. It's super fun so far. Though I do recall hard quitting Strange Journey Redux last year so I'm not sure I'll last the whole way. Either way, I'm on my way!!



  • I don't have a list but the first one from my backlog is Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

    I started but never finished the game on Wii U so i intend to properly play through it all when it comes to Switch next week.

  • @e_zed_eh_intern Oh I looooved Alundra back in the day! Maybe give it another shot later. I found the action cooler than 2D Zelda (you can jump!) and the story was quite dark and had some shocking moments (at least in the eyes of 13-year-old me).



  • @yoshi The box art for that game is so sick. Pretty good game too. Not sure I'll double dip but I can't imagine regretting it if I did.

    @Axel yeah I think one of the bigger mistakes was playing it on Vita. When I go back, I'll definitely play it on a TV. I didn't hate it I just think I wasn't as in the mood for a 2D Zelda-like game as I thought I was. I will at least give it one more go down the road - hopefully before 2020 is up!



  • Got one done, albeit it's only DLC. These DLC missions for Ace Combat 7 are definitely some of the most crazy and hectic missions in the whole game, especially Unexpected Visitor. Really enjoyed playing through this. Took me at least 2 hours total, it's pretty hard and I've also not touched the game for a while.

  • Changing my list Gravity Rush 2 is garbage, after a few hours with it I feel fine saying that and I won't keep going with it to just beat it, at least I only payed 6 bucks for it honestly glad these games bombed having played the first one and enough of 2 I think it will be better for that team to do something else as they don't seem to have an idea of what to do with this games, and at 60 hours and the 4 boss I've had enough of Persona Q 2, it is just to much too much time for too little payoff, I'm on board with the idea of having a silly crossover of the Persona games, but having a just meh game that is just worse than the first and not as interesting as Etrian Odyssey in terms of gameplay just made me lose interest, I enjoyed parts of it well enough, but for most of the time it was a bit of a grind.

    So since it is still very early on, I'm changing these two for The Banner Saga 3, which I keep forgetting I have to play, and Killer 7 which has always just been in the background and I've always wanted to play it.

    Additionally I beat A Hat in Time, very fun game and definitively something I want to see more of and without a doubt my favorite 3D platformer I've played in recent years, a solid 8/10.

    Ouch, that hurt haha.
    The GR series is some of the most fun I've had with the PS4.
    I can see people not enjoying the first title but the second one knocks it out of the park.

    • Some of my favorite locations in gaming, such a vibrant and beautiful city to explore.

    • A stellar unique soundtrack.

    • A charming and very pretty art direction.

    • An interesting story that takes a lot of risk and unexpected twists and turns.

    Sad to see you didn't enjoy your time with it. But to each their own I guess ¯\(ツ)/¯.



  • @thedemonpirate yeah I'm sorry to say but I just don't see it in anyway, presentation is fine even good but that is it, combat is just an uninteresting and boring as it was before, but it is the mission design that is the biggest problem, simply the laziest and most uninteresting missions I've played in a good while one after another, no creative use of its mechanics, simply nothing to show for it's cool concept, I was looking forward to it, but a few hours into it I realized I was just pushing myself through the boredom.
