    Thread concept:

The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).

    .

    • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here's a couple text lists of upcoming games:

Feel free to post other lists or list videos of upcoming releases that you find useful.

    • Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

  • I've waited twenty-two years for Pokémon Snap to return. New Pokémon Snap releases on April 30th.

I also want to check out these games:

    • Oddworld: Soulstorm - 4/6
    • NieR Replicant - 4/23
    • Total War: Rome Remastered - 4/29
    • Returnal - 4/30

  • If I had a PS5 I would definitely check out Returnal and Oddworld Soulstorm... but alas, I don't have such luck. I'm looking forward for the Star Wars Republic Commando remaster (available April 6th), if it actually appears on my region's PS Store. If not, then I'll probably just catchup on some indie games that I missed from the last few months.

  • Very excited for people to finally experience the original NieR.

Papa Nier will be sorely missed though.

  • There's quite a few games I'm hyped for this month!

Oddworld: Soulstorm honestly looks great so far, I know it's not as "pure" as the originals, it will be more action-y, but I want to give it the benefit of the doubt. Re-using the gameplay from over 20 years ago would probably not fly anyway. And it'll be free, so that helps.

I'm also curious about Nier Replicant, having loved Automata, but I'm not expecting it to be as good. I need to watch that EZA preview.

New Pokémon Snap is a no-brainer, especially with how few titles are coming out on Switch these days.

But the one I'm weirdly the most hyped for is Returnal, the more I see of this game the better it looks. I'm just very worried about its price tag, 80€ is ridiculous, and I can't see myself buying many games on day one this gen if they keep this up. I feel like it could be a critical darling but a commercial flop.

  • The first expansion for AC Valhalla - "Wrath of the Druids" - will launch on April 29th. Eivor goes to Ireland!

Returnal has sneakily crept on my radar. I'll see if the hype rises through the month.

  • Stumbled upon Hitchhiker, this seems neat. Comes out April 15th.

"Hitchhiker is a mystery game set along lost highways, where your goal is to solve the puzzle of your own backstory. As a hitchhiker with no memory or destination, you catch a series of rides across a strange and beautiful landscape, tracking the mysterious disappearance of a person close to you. Your drivers range from stoic farmers to off-duty waitresses, and each one has a story to tell. Clues appear, alliances emerge, and nothing is quite what it seems."
