For every system you've owned, what was the first game you played?

  • The majority of the systems I've owned I either first played on a demo kiosk or rented. So actual first played were:

    PC - Doom II
    Nintendo 64 - Star Fox 64
Xbox - Halo (or Project Gotham Racing)
GameCube - Luigi's Mansion or Wave Race Blue Storm
Xbox 360 - Kameo: Elements of Power or Forza Motorsport 2

    And first played when owned:

    Nintendo 64 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
    Xbox - Halo MechAssault
    PC - Unreal Tournament 2003
GameCube - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
    Xbox 360 - Halo 3
    Wii U - Pikmin 3
Xbox One - Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Switch - Paper Mario: The Origami King

  • NES was a hand me down with a bunch of games. Beyond Mario, Captain Skyhawk, Jackal, Tiger Heli and Castlevania 3 are what I remember getting with it.
    Genesis - Sonic 1 pack-in; maybe X-Men was next
N64 - Star Wars Shadow of the Empire
    PS1 - Resident Evil 2
    PS2 - Gran Turismo 3
    GBA - Golden Sun 2
    Gamecube - probably Double Dash
    Xbox - Halo
DS - New Super Mario Bros
    PS3 - Orange Box
    3DS - Shin Megami Tensei 4
    Vita - Uncharted Golden Abyss
    PS4 - Uncharted Trilogy pack-in; Bloodborne after
    Wii U - Mario Kart 8
    Switch - Snipperclips

  • I can't confidently say that these are the actual first games I played (mediocre memory tbh), but at least they were among the first few.

    Game Boy Advance: Spider-Man 2
    PS2: Sonic Heroes
    PSP: Ghost Rider
    PS3: Motorstorm
    PS4: The Witcher III
    3DS: Super Mario 3D Land
    PS Vita: Uncharted Golden Abyss
    Switch: Rogue Legacy

I'll check again later if these are accurate, and update this post if it's incorrect.

  • I'm going to stick with the first games I played when I actually owned the console for myself. There were a few (NES, N64 and the Master System) that I would have played games on at a friends house first.

In order of the consoles/computers I (or my father) picked up:

    Atari ST - Goldrunner
Master System - World Grand Prix (This was built into my system which rather annoyed me as my friend had Alex Kidd built in, which I technically played first.)
    Gameboy - Tetris
Gamegear - Either Marble Madness or Columns.
Home PC - Solitaire on Windows 3.1 (boring I know, but it technically was the first)
Megadrive - Sonic the Hedgehog (32X - Doom)
    Atari Lynx - Chips Challenge
Super Nintendo - Super Mario World
Sony Playstation - Duke Nukem 3D (Ridge Racer was first on a demo unit though)
    Nintendo 64 - Super Mario 64
    Dreamcast - Soul Calibur
    Gameboy Advance - Rayman
    Playstation 2 - Timesplitters
Xbox - Either Halo or Splinter Cell, I think it was Halo I put in first
Gamecube - Star Wars Rogue Squadron II
    NES - Super Mario Bros
    Sega Saturn - Sonic Jam
Nintendo DS - Mario 64 DS
Playstation Portable - Either Wipeout or MGS: Acid (I ordered a Japanese and an NA unit somewhere around their respective launches. Hazy on what game I technically played first, the one took ages to arrive)
    Xbox 360 - Condemned
    Playstation 3 - Assassins Creed
Nintendo Wii - Either Wii Sports or Twilight Princess
Nintendo 3DS - Monkey Ball 3D (Might have put Samurai Warriors: Chronicles in first though)
Playstation Vita - Uncharted Golden Abyss
Nintendo Wii U - Rayman Legends
Playstation 4 - Battlefield 4 (Might have tested Knack first)
Xbox One - Rise of the Tomb Raider
Nintendo Switch - Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I picked up quite a lot of consoles and computers to bolster my collection around the late 2000's and early 2010's (Vectrex, Neo Geo, Commodore 64 etc) but I won't go into those.

I love how Steam tracks your purchases. Made figuring this out nice n easy. I'm a bit murky on PS1, N64 and GC since I had family who owned these things before I did. Took an educated guess.

  • @mbun said in For every system you've owned, what was the first game you played?:

SNES Classic - Star Fox 2

    How's this possible? O_O
    You need to unlock it.

  • NES - Mega Man 2
SNES - Chrono Trigger (technically my first console and game memory)
    GameBoy - F1 Race
    GameBoy Advance -
Nintendo DS - Maybe Mario 64 DS, but never owned it.

First gaming PC build: Breath of Fire IV ( Had Ninja Turtles maybe from 2003, but my machine couldn't run it)

Hope I'm not forgetting a system!

  • @neocweeny I don't remember that. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong. You can tell my memory isn't the best from all the (probably)s. Least that's the one that I remember sinking into first.

All you need to do to be able to play Star Fox 2 is to load up the original Starwing, or Star Fox as it was known in US and Japanese markets. You then have to playthrough and beat the first level of the game.

That must've been what I did. Just the first level.
