Polygon looking for reviewers
-
If any of you guys/girls ever wanted to give games writing a try, now is your chance!
http://www.polygon.com/2016/8/4/12193246/polygon-is-looking-for-new-reviewers
-
Why would anyone want to work for Polygon?
-
You can't like games if you write for Polygon, only walking sims. BUT, if you're lazy anyway, they don't require you to play through a game to review it, just make sure to reduce the rating when the female characters look visually appealing and you're golden, well, as long they exist, I give them 2 more years till they either get bought by people who like videogames or file for bancrupcy like that talentless hack Nick Denton piss be upon him.
-
It's just a freelance gig, you wouldn't actually be employed by them. Might be a decent way to get your foot in the door for games journalism. It's a little salty in here.
-
All opinions of the site aside, it'd legit be a good thing to have on a resume that you worked for Polygon if you're looking further into a career of game reviewing.
-
ouch, a lot of negativity in here. very cool opportunity open to the public. if this were a different time in my life, i'd love to give it a try.
-
It's a cool opportunity, just....not a very good site. Aren't they under the same umbrella that Kotaku is under? The one that's going bankrupt?
-
@ZyloWolfBane Kotaku is owned by Gawker Media, Polygon is owned by Vox Media. No connection, as far as I know.
-
@ZyloWolfBane Noooope, they've part of Vox.
And I don't understand the hate either. I don't agree with a couple of the editorial folks over there very often, but I do enjoy reading their articles.
-
Looked up Vox Media. Aside from Polygon I've never heard of any of their websites.
Either I'm getting too old or I just have a natural instinct to avoid clickbait articles.
-
Not surprising, they're one of the worst mainstream sites for reviews out there.
-
Hey Polygon, I know how to review like you.
-
I'm not enough of a pompous, self-righteous asshole to write reviews for Polygon.
-
@DeweyDTruman You don't ACTUALLY have to be those things.
Just fake it until you make it.
-
Wow, a little disappointed in the vitriol about this.
So much for jollyness
-
@TheHashtag0nist Agreed.
-
Humans have a vast range of emotions. Deal with it.
-
@Art said in Polygon looking for reviewers:
Humans have a vast range of emotions. Deal with it.
A vast range, and you go with hostility. Hence my disappointment
-
Not gonna lie, disappointed in the attitudes conveyed here
-
I wouldn't wish upon anyone to learn from or work with Arthur Gies, and Polygon is terrible with their journalistic integrity by changing their review score for many games when they feel like it. An example is Sim City 4 getting its review score changed twice and Battlefield 4 had its review score changed.
Also, one HUGE thing to note is that Microsoft gave Polygon $750,000 to make a $75,000 documentary about Polygon. I don't know about you, but that just seems like a huge bribe. They should have stopped reviewing any Microsoft games from that point on, but of course that's not the case.
